  1. 457 is no commitment at all really! If it's not working out, they can fire you and you would have to go home within 90 days if you don't find another sponsor (which is becoming increasingly difficult) all it would cost them is return economy flights for you. Despite what it cost you in terms of life upheaval etc... As a result most 457 workers are constantly looking over their shoulders and put up with far more than normal workers for risk of upsetting their employers and being sent back.

  2. I not sure if your son would qualify for RRV after this as you need to live in a minimum of two years in Oz to qualify I believe in that 5 years?

He he wouldn't need an RRV. You have 5 years to enter from the date of visa grant. As long as he enters within the five years and then doesn't need to travel for a while he would be fine.

  3. As long as it's within 5 years of the visa grant, it should be fine for him to come and live there permanently after uni. Speaking as the step mother of a 20 year old lad you just need to be mindful that things may not work out like this though... Things change a lot in 5 years, especially at that age. He could meet the partner of his dreams/land an amazing job in the UK and you could face him living on the other side of the world forever.

  4. They assured me numerous times that it would be longer than 2 years and they claim that the government knocked the length of the visa. I think they are lying to me and tomorrow I will call number at the bottom of my visa approval letter and ask them exactly what duration my company nominated me for.

I may be wrong and I'm sure Raul will correct me, but it's possible that DIBP won't give you that information. As the nomination is made by your co. It is possible that you're not a nominated person on the Immiaccount and therefore they may not give you details about the nomination?

  5. That was the plan, but finding the specified work is proving more difficult than expected now you have to provide payslips. Baffles me why there is no government run website where these jobs are posted.

Theres plenty of regional work available, but maybe not locally, you may have to travel to get this. Then document anything and everything you're doing to maintain your relationship. It will be a case of short term pain for long term gain.

  6. He could get a job anywhere in Australia as long as he was sponsored by an employer.

There's a lot of negativity on this forum re:457. And it's not easy, because you are always looking over your shoulder in case you get made redundant. BUT. You're in your 40's, your kids are practically adults, this is your time. Go for it. Take a risk. You never know what will happen in life and at least you'll have tried.

My hubby & I and my 15 year old step son came over almost 5 years ago on a 457. We were in a very precarious industry and a few times we thought we'd have to go back to the UK. However, we got PR in 2013 and then on 26 Jan this year I became a citizen (just applied for my Oz passport!). So it can work out. Just to add a bit of balance to the "got made redundant, had to go home" stories.

  7. Or, if you don't attach any, they will just ask you to take copies and the original in when you attend the interview.

Could be wrong but when I tried to finalise mine, I thought it didn't allow me the documents were attached?
