  1. Hi, have you had a look at this ? I guess so, but just in case: http://www.doctorconnect.gov.au My wife is an anaesthetist and I can see that the process for doctors is not simple or straight forward. Good luck
  2. Dear All, I am applying for a 189 visa and my wife who is Swiss will accompany me on that visa. She is a qualified Anaesthetist but the recognition for that is likely to take quite some time. I was wondering if she will be able to work in the meantime but in another profession or related job, obviously not as a Doctor but something paid ? Any knowledge gratefully received. Thanks
  3. Thanks for clarifying that point. This was my original understanding, but then I read something that suggested she must apply herself. Now I re-read it, I can see I misunderstood this. In our case I think this means she will be eligible to live/work (after the 189 visa is granted - which is already a long way off!), but to be recognized as an Anaesthetist is quite a lengthy process from what I can see on the ANZCA website. Hence, it would be good to hear from anyone who has gone through the process and survived to tell the tale
  4. What does this mean ?: *The occupation ceiling for Accountants was set at two and half per cent for the 2015-16 programme year, a further reduced ceiling of two and a half per cent will apply for the 2016-2017 programme year.
  5. Dear All, My wife is an Anaesthetist and will also need to apply a skilled visa 189 (I am applying first, my wifes will be slightly later). She is qualified in Switzerland and Europe. Does anyone have experience of getting qualifications recognized in order to work in Australia. I have visited the AHPRA website but its not too specific for Anaesthetists (they are listed on the skilled occ. list). Experience of Anaesthetist's specifically applying would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks Daniel
  6. You find out your score within 2 weeks and you need above 7 for proficient, above 8 for superior, which both equate to more points than the basic level, which gets 0 points. If you are English, Canadian etc, you are assumed to have the basic level. Choosing to take the test is simply to boost points and differentiate from others who speak less well. I am going for the IELTS but only because PTE is not offered where I am living (I would need to go to another country), PTE sounds the best way if possible, simply for convenience/ease of doing everything on the computer.
  7. Hi All, I am English living in Switzerland with my Swiss wife and daughter. We are looking to emigrate to Australia. Has anyone got a recommended Migration Agent for the process ? We are based in Basel, so someone based here would be great. Many thanks Daniel
  8. wrussell, yes correct, there is indeed a box to complete for english standard (see attached) in the relevant form (I am ICAEW qualified). I can see now that proving superior English skills is one of the easiest ways to get extra points. Thanks all English req. Ext Auditor.pdf English req. Ext Auditor.pdf
  9. Thanks for the quick response. I will do it, I need the points.
  10. Hi All, Apologies if this has been queried before, but I would like to know if I should do an English test to show I have a level of English above the minimum level of 'competent'. I am British/English so competent is assumed and sufficient for my visa. However, I would like to boost my chances so I think this might be the best thing to do. I am applying for a skilled visa 189 as Chartered Accountant/Auditor, so there may be some competition in this category of visa. I would also be interested to know which is the quickest and easiest method to do a test and if online is possible. Many thanks Daniel
  11. I would say the cost of living in the UK is cheaper than Australia. Food (much cheaper), clothes, NHS covers your medical and so on. But London is very expensive for property rental or ownership, but that would depend on where in Aus your comparing to. In the Uk the supply of some professions is likely to be much larger than that in Australia, the UK population and EU workers makes for a large pool of talent, all in in a small space compared to Aus. Some jobs in Australia enjoy an elevated salary for that reason as its not easy to fill the gaps quickly. Australian way of life and weather is not in the UK, and this can be priceless
  12. Hi All, I hope to move to Melbourne in the future and I am moving from a place where there are limited things to do on a Sunday. I'd be interested to know what your favourite things are to do in Melbourne on a Sunday as inspiration for the future, thanks a bunch. Daniel
  13. Thank you for clarifying. I can see that is indeed the case
  14. Hi All, Apologies if this an obvious question, I haven't seen the answer anywhere as yet. If I apply for a subclass 189 visa do I have to be very specific about the job I want to have when I go to Australia ? I have some qualifications which mean I am generally qualified in finance and accounting. I can see External Auditors are in demand, but I am also an investment professional, so can I apply for both types of jobs or will I be focused on one route ? I would also be interested to know if I got sponsored to come over by a large company (getting a visa by that route), can I change my visa later down the line by applying for permanent residency or another type of visa, so I am not fixed with one company ? Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom Daniel
  15. Hi All, We have decided we are going to pursue our dream and begin the process of emigrating to Melbourne. We met in Australia 7 years ago, returned to Europe, married, had our daughter and now we want to return and live in Australia. We visited for 3 weeks last October and were happy to see that we love Australia as much as a family as we did 7 years ago when we first met. We will be emigrating from Switzerland, one UK national and one Swiss. If anyone has been in a similar situation feel free to drop me a line! I will be applying for a skilled visa. My wife is an Anaesthetist and I am working in Treasury/Fixed Income. Looking forward to getting this process off the ground, targeting one year from now to be on Australian ground, living and working. All the best Dan
  16. Hi All, i did a search but didn't find an answer for this. We are here now on holiday and have another week left. We'd like to see some suburbs where we might be able to live upon moving over. Basic requirements are 30 min or so train ride into CBD, possibility for 3/4 bed house hopefully with outside space (A$ 850k budget roughly), decent schooling (primary) for our growing tot, nice local atmosphere with shops and restaurants. I've been concentrating on the south as I like the idea of being close to the mornington and beaches, but generally we're open to anywhere. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated ! Daniel
