  1. Perfect, that's what i needed to know.. I'm just a big worrier to be honest and try to get everything in place properly, panic over the smallest of things such as thinking when i apply for my WHV it will get rejected for some reason, although they would be no reason to
  2. I was thinking about maybe getting a camper over a few months pay but i guess Australians would be pretty against the idea of something like that, I'm certainly excited and hope it is the beginning of my life leading onto more exciting things
  3. Probably been asked a number of times before, but I've had a quick skim through and cannot find anything. I'm interested in booking my VISA now before the flights (unsure if that is the best way to do it). I know we get 1 year to use our visa, but does that effect the length of the stay, or would the year WHV start once in Oz? Cheers in advance
  4. Yeah im not too car minded to be honest so will certainly need someone to look over it for me, I have seen that some are from 1985 etc that we could be buying, so pretty old but i guess to be on the road from that age they must be pretty reliable!! That volunteering does sound appealing for the experience to be honest. I'm just a little bit of a worrier thinking that I don't have enough money etc with me.
  5. Thank you all for the advice, obviously it is all greatly appreciated speaking to people having the experience as its really daunting as well as exciting for ourselves, we really want to give it the best possible start so that we can ensure we have the best time when out there. We have some great skills which i think rural will appreciate (background in welding, manufacturing, wind farms etc) and a diploma in health and safety along with the GF having a BA Hons in Early Childhood Studies, I've seen a lot of adverts for people wanting baby sitters etc. We certainly thought that coming over with 5,000 each and then starting rural quickly will then help boost our budget a lot as well as possibly giving accommodation for a little bit while we get our head around the campervan situation. Thanks
  6. Hello, Just a little bit of advice really, myself and my girlfriend are coming over on a WHV but are interested to see how our careers would be recognised in Aus, I have a steelmaking background along with 2 years health and safety, i currently hold a NCRQ Level 6 Diploma and ISO14001:2015 Lead Auditor Cert to name the 2 main ones. My Mrs has just graduated university (15 months ago) with a BA Hons in Early Childhood Studies and has been a senior room leader since.
  7. If it helps I've done a level 6 QCF and its recognised at practitioner level, so its recognised just not at the highest level, that's in the health and safety world
  8. There is a new qualification out in the UK called 'NCRQ Level 6 Diploma in Applied Health and Safety' which is similar to NEBOSH diploma, but about 1/5 the price, and is accepted in Australia along with other countries at practitioner level, and a route to completing a masters, I would certainly have a look at doing that over the NEBOSH as this one holds a lot more recognition outside of the UK
  9. I was looking at coming over around Feb time at the moment, but if the work is better before then would certainly come before
  10. Has anyone been able to gain farm work employment before they have even got to Oz? I'm coming over on a years working holiday visa with the girlfriend and we are both interested in doing the 88 days rural work to gain the extra year on our visa, we are thinking of hiring a camper van for our travels and doing it all that way. We have thought about coming over and getting straight into the 88 days as some offer the accommodation whilst gaining a decent wage which we could both save up over the time we are there and put it together to hopefully get a better camper or something... Anyone have advice or connections?
  11. Hello All, I'm getting Christmas out of the way with then I'm coming over to Australia with my Girlfriend on a years WHV, We are also interested if available to extend our stay by doing the rural work. We have around 5,000 GBP saved up each to come with to get us started, but was also thinking about doing the rural part to start, get out of the way with and also some offer a place to stay so would be pretty ideal for us. We are wondering what people have found the best way to travel and live, Hostels or buying/renting a cheap little camper van? I have read one or two little posts about traveling by a camper van but didn't know how it would work out financially etc, if it helps I'm 27 so know that it would be cheaper to insure/run with me being over the 25 mark... Any help will be greatly appreciated as we are looking at paying for our VISAs sometime this week, and more help would be better! thanks in advance
  12. Hello, working towards being classed as a skilled worker to make the move over to Australia when the job market picks up for health and safety.... Is the NEBOSH Diploma reconsised in oz? I'm also looking at the NCRQ level 6 diploma in applied health and safety... Any recommendations? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Is that what his username is on here? I'll give him a message Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Thank you Snifter, I shall have a look, I didn't know it id require a certain one as I'm in the health and safety sector or does one agent kind of cover all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Could anyone guide me to a good migrant agent that would be able to give me an initial assessment:) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Thank you Jessica, One of my hold backs is knowing the process of checking what qualifications are eligible, how would I go about that? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I haven't checked yet, I'm just completing my NVQ level 5 in health and safety before I do apply as I feel that would help my application a lot. I have four years experience in a tier one COMAH site so as heavy industry goes it's pretty good experience to have Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I went to Bunbury WA about two-three years ago and everything seemed to be okay then, I wouldn't be too interested in living right in a city, a hour or twos drive would be fine, ideally on the coast, does that sound more reasonable price wise etc? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Yeah I'm 26 so that is an option, I think it helps your visa application too if you have been on a working holiday too. Houses do seem more expensive but it seems like it's easier to get started over their rather than in England. Yeah my mother could visit for 6 months couldn't she? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Thank you so much for taking your time to write all that, it really is appreciated. The good thing is, I had 3-4 years experience in the role without actually having the qualifications, I'm in a bizarre one compared to most as I do have experience but only just got the qualifications, but not yet to the NVQ level 5, I was currently applying to do that when I got your message notification, that should roughly take around six months to complete. We are quite lucky as we both do not have much to loose, I am still out of work (may have something but would happily take the risk) my girlfriend has a degree in early childhood studies but is only on £14,000 a year, no children or mortgage. I think she's unsure about the price, everyone says it's so high cost of living over their, but I'm sure the wages are a lot better too. Think the main thing is moving away from family but as I say, me being over their would give my mother such a better opportunity as she would be able to come over whenever she wanted Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Dilemma

Hello, pretty new to here so first of all it's nice to speak with you all. I used to work for SSI steelworks in Teesside until I was made redundant due to the company going into liquidation which I'm sure many of you will of read about on the news. I worked their for four years as a health and safety advisor, I got lucky with getting it to be honest as I had no qualifications at the time, but part of the redundancy package is retraining which I've not been able to complete my NEBOSH General Certificate and currently studying my NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management and NEBOSH Oil and Gas. I will then look at doing my NVQ level 5 in safety in January, would this qualify me as a skilled worker? Secondly my girlfriend is abit unsure about the move to Australia, is they anything you can recommend to put her at ease?
  22. Hello. im currently 26 and worked at the Teesside Steelworks (SSI) which I'm sure you will of seen in the news went into liquidation, I worked their for four years as a health and safety advisor and now looking at moving to Australia, could anyone give me a view on the work available etc how the certificates stand over oz. ive completed my NEBOSH General certificate and currently doing the fire addition and oil and gas, looking at doing my NVQ 5 instead of the Diploma as I feel a NVQ will be more recognised abroad.
  23. Thank you, do you know much aabout how easy it is to get work in that area? And how much the average salary is? Just trying my best to find the best way to get to oz! So any advice on that would be appreciated as well
  24. Hello im one of the lads who have been effected by the SSI steel works going into liquidation, this has prompted me into chasing my dreams as corney as that may sound. i worked at SSI for four years doing various different jobs around plant but the last 6-12 months I worked along side the health and safety manager, this has lead me to wanting to complete my NEBOSH certificate and hopefully move to Australia, would this be enough to be classed as skilled or would I need the diploma? Any advice would be great
