  1. Hello Thank you so much for all of the great help! I feel like I have a good idea of what Paddington area is like and am almost sold. Would love to e plore Ascot and Hamilton's little more though. I particularly like north shore park area in Hamilton. Much appreciated J ☺
  2. Also, had a good look at realestate.com but just wonder if all properties end up on there? J
  3. Fisho1, I want what you described! I would be delighted to not need a car at all! And happy to drive to beach at weekends, I do love the beach but in reality won't have time to be there every day. Love the river too. Paddington/rosalie really sound like the right place for us. Can you tell me more about that area in housing terms.? Do you think my budget of 800-1000 pw gets us a queenslander with a view?! Thank you J
  4. Sorry no, other way around. So, I don't want to feel like I'm living in an extension to the CBD, although having said that where I live now (6miles out from leeds centre) really is a very big busy city, and when I visited Brissie in 2007 it felt. Much smaller scale. J
  5. Hello, I am not dead against the idea of being a bit further out, one thing that certainly pulls me in that direction is that I like a village feel rather than urban sprawl. My partner is an engineer so likely to be CBD based, I am a health care manager/policy maker so likely to be working in a hospital. Budget is around $800-1000 per week and would love a pool and garden! Thanks for all this input, it really is so helpful and appreciated. J
  6. If it was just me I would not hesitate to go for short term rentals and look around a bit. It would nt be fair on my daughter though so feeling under pressure to get it right first time! Srg73 what if 'funny'about ascot and Hamilton?! I'm after a relaxed feel to the area I live in too. All opinions greatly appreciated. J :-)
  7. Wow fish 01, thank you so much for taking the time to do that epic post ! Paddington/Rosalie def my favs ATM. Lastonealive, thank you for the train and citycat insight and will def give new farm a look. Any more opinions greatly received. How would you describe these areas in terms of busyness ? Are they uber busy or family busy iykwim ?! Julia ☺
  8. Hello all, Just looking for some more insider info and personal experiences to help narrow down suburb choices. Top of the priority list is near to river and good school. Public transport to CBD, and family areas with clubs and parks ect. Any comments greatly appreciated Julia :-)
  9. Thanks chortlepuss. The trains seem like a good option, and I hate driving anyway! What are the boat options for commuting like? I will look at Sherwood, thanks for the suggestion. J :-)
  10. Thanks fo your reassurance Cal. I wonder if the garden/pool thing is to do with the areas I have shortlisted? Where do you live? It seems to be the big toss up for brisse, near to beach or CBD. I guess it makes more sense to be near to work since we will be there more often. I don't mind a bit of a journey at the weekend, so was thinking that easterly sunburbs would make more sense. Having said that a little part of me would just love to live right by the beach too! Reading of others experiences really does help though. J :-)
  11. Hell all, this is my first post. I have Lived in Freo in Perth in the past, it didn't work out. I have visited Brissie and LOVED it there. I feel like the time is right now too make the move again, this time with 5 year old daughter and her Dad in tow ! Finding a place to live wasn't so tricky last time round, it didn't really matter if I got it wrong, but given my DD will be in school and uprooting her once will be tricky enough, I really want to get it right first time ! So, I was hoping for some guidance, good schools are my biggest priority and as such I have come up with a shortlist of Ascot, Hawthorn, Bardon and Bulimba. I also love being by the river, want to be as close as possible to a child friendly beach, and would ideally love to be within walking distance of cafes, shops, markets, a park and such like. A tall order, I know ! I have also wondered about the best use of outside space. I remember in Perth that it was often too hot for much garden play. Properties seem to either have a pool or decent grassy garden space for a play, so I am wondering which is the most valuable. Do families with kids in Brissie value a pool or grassy area more ? Finally, I do worry about how my daughter will settle. Do any of you have any experiences to share in terms of how your kids settled and coped with being away from friends and family ? thank you Julia :-)
