  1. More good news on the job front from me.

We also arrived about 6 weeks ago but just started looking for work this week.

Went to 3 recruitment agencies on Monday. 2 basically told me employers wouldn't touch me until I had sat exams to transition to CAANZ. The third put me forward for a job on Monday, sat a Psychometric test on Wednesday, interview on Friday and was offered the job that afternoon.

So don't get disheartened if you find anyone unwilling to accept your UK qualifications.

  2. Oh wow, you've just arrived, I missed the date in your signature! Congratulations!!

My husband contacted an agency and they basically only wanted to know once he has a visa and has arrived. We've been researching possible jobs for him, rough areas etc, but that's all. The plan is that he gets a job first and I look after the kids and bring my online (non-accountancy) business with me. I heard from several Australian accountants that it's tough to get accounting jobs in Perth at the moment. We are also both open to career changes and steps backwards if needed.

I've logged into the visa application website - but that's all so far. Did you use an agency?

I don't plan getting a job for a while until the kids are settled but if something perfect comes up I'll apply.

I did the whole process myself but it took a lot of time reading up on things and only used forums for the odd query. The fact you've got this far on your own I'm sure you could finish it yourself.

  3. Wow we totally fell in love with Perth! I was kind of hoping we wouldn't like it as my life would be cheaper and easier that way, but we loved it. First day back and my husband has started decluttering the house!!

I submitted the expression of interest on 18th Dec whilst we were there and got our invite on 20th Dec. I now need to know how to apply!!

I also told my parents within the first few days of getting back, which was always my biggest issue. We are hoping to go at the end of the school year in July but I think that might be pushing it!

If you are unsure how to apply and need it done quickly you might want to consult an agent to do this part for you as it took me a lot of time to read up on what had to be done.

The fact you have done your skill assessment and EOI yourself the final part won't cost as much.

Glad you loved Perth. We arrived in Brisbane 3 days ago and I feel totally at home - although probably still in holiday mode.

Did you look into jobs while you were there ?

  4. Most likely because the OP is asking for step by step instructions on how to do the application themselves, which is not the purpose of the Agent section.

George responded to the initial questions accurately and in good time.

I agree with you completely. I wasn't trying to have a go at you guys on here, just suggesting why someone else replied. Oops sorry, I shouldn't post here [emoji12]

  5. A reminder to forum members - this section of the forum is for people to ask questions of a migration agent and although your assistance is appreciated, other forum members should not reply to threads.

To be fair, no agent had replied for over a week

  6. Hi guys, been quiet for a while as we haven't made up our minds about whether to apply or not. We leave tomorrow for 3 weeks in Perth and hopefully this will help with the decision!

    Good luck with your visit.

Hope it helps your decision 1 way or the other.

Will you be contacting recruitment agencies while you are there ?

  7. Sorry that's not what I meant. I know the main applicant doesn't have to come on their own, we all came together but OH had to be first, I couldn't come first without him. Crickey I'm really having trouble explaining myself of late, my meaning is not coming across very well.

I knew what you meant ?

  8. We are moving over on 29 December so our kids (8 and 6) are finishing up with the rest of the class for the holidays. We felt this would be easier for them.

In your situation I would be worried they will get bored for 4 weeks in January before you leave when their friends are back at school so I would probably send them back after Christmas....

  9. Your wife will need to sit an english test prior to submitting an assessment of her qualifications. PTE do these throughout the country and results are available the following day.

As a CA she should pass the qualification assessment no problem. ICAA have about a 2-3 weeks turnaround.

As is said above there is a oversupply of accountants meaning at least 70 points are needed for an invite at the moment. She would likely need 20 points from her english exam (top marks) and also would need some points from her work experience. This would depend on her job roles and responsibilities. ICAA can also do this alongside the qualification assessment.

If you are planning on doing this process on your own then it takes alot of reading up and investigating. Accountants have been flagged for removal for a number of years so if you are worried time might be limited then an agent such as westly above would speed the process up considerably.

  10. Hi, I've just called about a movecube and got a quote for a large one. £890 plus $240 in Australia.

Are they open to haggling? Is that about right?

    Ours is coming on Friday

I think we were quoted £950 (from Scotland) but from memory our expected charges in Australia were much higher than your quote (about $900 I think)

  11. Thank you for your responses Bungo and Makybe.

That is what I am confused about. But the consultant was not very reliable. So if any one of you have already received a positive assessment in 2016 with no condition to clear Statistics and Economics then it is likely I will get it to.

So it seems there is no other option then to score 8 in all modules in IELTS to bring up my points.

I think I should apply for an assessment and meanwhile retake IELTS. Which one should I go for CAANZ or CPA? CAANZ recently formed an MOU with ACCA so would that be a better option?

Since my experience will not be counted Will I only get a qualification assessment or a combined Skill and Qualification assessment?

Regarding Migration Assessment we need to submit university handbook/course outline. Not sure what is meant here? Like a transcript?

    Thanks

I used both and would recommend either.

There would be no point getting your experience assessed so just go for a basic skill assessment.

  12. Naati is a foreign language interpreter course which you can get 5 points for. I'm not sure how easy it is....

Employer sponsored visas are a whole other area which I know little about.

Assessment takes roughly 2 weeks - I passed with my ACCA without any further exams but if your agent is telling you different then you should take their advice over mine.

  13. Thank you guys for the prompt response.

Are there any other ways to increase the points.

Like having a job offer? or having someone sponsor from Australia something of that sort? What would be the criteria for these?

I was thinking of going to go for a Masters in Oz but since accountants are flagged im afraid by the time im done studying accountants will be off the list and i will not be able to get a PR even then. What do you suggest?

There are lots of ways to increase points (naati, partner points, regional sponsorship) but I dont think the two you mentioned are going to help.

Further study seems an expensive option with nothing guaranteed at the end of it.

It might be worthwhile consulting an agent such as @wrussell to determine if any other paths are an option.

Will your points for age increase anytime soon?

  14. 1. Yes

    2. No. Experience only counts after full membership is achieved (unless you have a degree prior to starting ACCA)

3 and 4. Any experience pre 2016 is not counted whether full time, part time, remote or otherwise. Again, I assume you don't have a previous degree.

    5. 65+5 with 20 points for English should get an invite from NSW but you may need to wait a few months.

  15. Hi

Does anyone know if the points for Accountant General 189 VISA has increased to 70? I would be applying with 65 which i thought would be ok as its over the threshold of 60 points that was required last year.

    Thanks

    M

What is your points breakdown ?

Your best shot will probably be NSW nomination if you have 20 points for English

  16. Well it may indeed be difficult to walk into another partnership, so could be a step down in that sense. But I would not otherwise assume this is the case, when I moved my first role was at least sideways but in fact more like s step up. This was 2010 and market wasn't particularly good although probably better than now.

I cannot see any reason why an accountant operating at a partner level could not afford Sydney. Welll I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand anyway. Take a good look.

    That sounds encouraging.

To be honest I'd be happy with a step down originally until we settle.

I'll contact a few agencies shortly but I don't expect much to happen before we arrive.

    Thanks again.

  17. I believe the opportunities for accountants in NSW but outside Sydney would be few and far between. Still it is a decent paying profession and I know plenty of accountants living in Sydney, have you looked into what kind of salary you could expect and what areas that might put you in?

Thanks Bungo, those were my suspicions.

The salary part is pretty hard for me to estimate. I am a partner in CA firm in the UK but expect I will have to take a step down initially in terms of responsibility.

  18. I am moving to Australia at the end of the year on a 190 NSW visa however as the sole earner and with 2 young children I am not sure Sydney will be possible financially.

I am looking for some help on other areas outwith Sydney that could be an option for us. I would prefer further North (mainly due to climate) but a quick search on Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour doesn't seem to have many vacancies.

    Thanks for any help......

  19. Hi, yes I got my letter back from CPA in July confirming that I could claim the full amount of points for experience. This will give me 80 points when I apply. However, I have not done the EOI yet as we have decided to wait and do it in November so that we don't have to pay for the visa until our visit to Australia and we are certain if this move is for us

Glad you got it sorted with CPA

When / Where are you visiting ?

  20. I am a UK qualified accountant and will be moving to Australia in December. I have been looking for some study material on Australian tax that I can access in the UK to read up on before making the move. I am not looking to sit any exams at this stage, simply improve my knowledge on the tax system in Australia.

I have seen an Australian Tax 2016 (eBook) available on LexisNexis website for $139 - would that be as good any out there ?
