  1. Thanks for the response. Just to add to your money box if you haven't already come across these ones: - Find your next job in 1 day by Rick Gillis, very good for resume preparing - What Colour is your Parachute by Richard Bolles, a precious source of interview behaviour ideas 2 minute bin it rule is too good to be truth. According to the recent investigations it has transformed into 20 sec.
  2. Hi all, need your advice guys as I could see quite . Have been looking for a job for 6 months in Perth and still no success. I'm an IT analyst with extensive international experience (more than 12 years). The areas of expertise is business requirements, process modelling, enterprise-wide applications such as documentation management system, implementation, testing and training, that is almost all phases of SDLC except for coding and unit testing. Gained several interviews since Christmas, one was completely a disaster as after several stages and even checking my references I was pointed to cultural misfit (not sure about the real reason), then was definitely overqualified for the second one and finally secured a position in the government but it's just a pool and who knows when it will really work out. Doing a volunteer job within my area for a small not-for-profit company, entered several associations, visiting local professional meetups, catching up over coffee, approaching managers directly, making a lot of connections in LinkedIn, doing many other things outside to get access to the hidden market as I know WA is all about who knows you. I don't want to bother you with all those details but everything seems useless. People readily meet, give recommendations, promise to keep an eye on opportunities and nothing happens. The current _open_ market is dead, I can see only 2-3 positions per week and 200-300 applications per position according to my friend from a HR agency. Looking at Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane currently but don't know whether they're better to get my foot in the door though. Ready to start with a lower position provided that it's related to my skills.
