We've been quoted $8-$10k for a 20 foot container and we are packing lots ourselves! The insurance is really marked up I think because the person quoting also gets a commission for the insurance. Has anyone arranged their own insurance -recommendations welcome.

Thx everyone. Deryans your quote is 1k less than I got from the same company but good to know that you had a great experience. We do worry that they will suddenly find new charges at the other end like Huggy did. This happened to us when we moved here years ago from the UK. The agent here said that they could not release the container until we gave another thousand to the UK shipper for "currency fluctuations" We said prove that the currency changed value and the next day our container arrived unannounced at the front door! Makes us really nervous.

We are getting prices for shipping a container 20' back. We have been quoted from $8200-$9400. What is the experience of others here? Do these prices sound about right? Anyone know of a better price and company shipping the container from Sydney?
