  1. My two shih tzu's fly to Melbourne in December and I am already stressing out how they will cope. They then have to fly to Brisbane. I just can't wait for it all to be over.
  2. Hi LindsG, it is a bit of a nightmare. If you are a sole trader/limited co, then I'm assuming you won't receive holiday/sick pay/pension contributions from your current company? I'm hoping to go the Australian 'pay as you go' as I should still receive the above. I am going to call the Australian Tax Office on Monday for more information. Have a look at the following link regarding Australian pay as you go: http://www.Australia.angloinfo.com/money/income-tax/pay-as-you-go.com Regards
  3. Thanks Bungo. Can I ask, if my company were willing to administer Australian pay as you go, how would they set that up? Would it be directly with the Australian Tax Office or would it be via UK Tax Office?
  4. I am currently a scheduler for a broadcast company in UK. I will be moving to Brisbane in December and am hoping to still work for my current employer at home in Oz. However, I'm not sure how to do this. I'm not sure if I can just carry on with my current employment contract as I will need to pay Australian tax. I think one way is to become a limited company or a sole trader and then my company employs me to carry out my work. Can the UK company employ my services on a long term contract - say 1-2 years? If it is a long term contract, will they then pay holiday and sick pay? Can anyone offer any advice etc? Thanks
  5. Thank you for your advice. An accountant is the next step I think.
  6. I'm moving to Brisbane in December with my Australian partner and will have permanent resident status. I am currently a scheduler for an Outside Broadcast company and I am hoping to keep my job and work from home (in Brisbane). Does anyone have advice about how to go about this and what is required? Do I have to become a contractor and set up a limited company in Oz? Should I get paid in Aussie currency rather than UK pounds? Where do I pay tax, UK or Oz? Sorry for so many questions but I don't know where else to look. Any information will be much appreciated. Many thanks
  7. We are taking our two dogs, shih tzus, to Brisbane in December and we are using Airpets. It is straightforward if you read through everything and organise all the dates for their injections etc. Also, you can email them with any questions you have as you go through the process. So far so good for us so would recommend them.
  8. Hi Stacey, I'm moving to Brisbane beginning of December with my Australian partner. I have my visa already so now it is selling the house and sorting things out over here. Pretty nerve-wracking but looking forward to it also. Good luck with your move! Brisbane is a fab city.
  9. Hi, we are taking our two shih tzus to Oz in December. They are my babies and I wouldn't consider going if they could be in any harm. We are going to use Pet Air. I believe Bob from Pet Air is on here, so why don't you message him.
  10. Hey, I'm moving to Brisbane in December with my Australian partner. I'm 38 and currently a scheduler for an Outside Broadcasting company. Hoping I can keep my job and work from home in Australia, fingers crossed. My partner is a Deputy SENCO in a high school. I had a partner visa a few years back so I have now just received my Resident Return visa. Do you know whereabouts in Brisbane you will be living? It is very exciting, but scary also
  11. Jeffcaz: I'm sending my two shih tzu dogs to Australia with Airpets and I have been quoted just over £3k for both together. £4k seems a lot.
  12. Hi, I hadn't lived in Australia for the required amount of time to automatically get an RRV. However I could prove I had substantial personal ties to Oz due to my partner. The process only took 20 days too.
  13. Yes, we were in Brisbane last time but we came back as my partner got a job offer back in the UK. That was 11 years ago.
  14. Just received confirmation that my resident return visa has been granted. Yay! Moving to Brisbane in December - can't wait
  15. I applied for a defacto visa a few years back. We had to supply evidence of living together (bills/joint bank accounts etc) plus photos, cards, letters that we had sent to each other. Plus we got statutory declarations from friends and family to say we were in a committed relationship. It did the job as I got my visa. The more you have, the better.
  16. I'm half Maltese but live in UK so I'm sure I won't be of much help.
  17. I am taking two small dogs and I am going to use Pet Air UK - heard some good feedback about these.
  18. I would have no idea. Best to look on the skills list or speak to a migration agent or embassy. Perhaps someone on here can answer your question, sorry.
  19. Hi mmck33, Myself and my Australian partner (from Brisbane) are moving back there in December 2015 (with our two dogs). We are hoping to settle either in Chelmer (we had friends that lived there so know it is a lovely place) or considering the North Side. My partner is originally from Salisbury which is on the South side. My partner is a senior special needs teacher so it depends on where she is placed before we know where we will settle. Looking forward to spending the day at South Bank again.
  20. I know it. We have friends in the Redlands Bay area. You can take the ferry to North Stradbroke Island which is lovely. We are thinking North Brisbane (Wooloowin possibly) but depends on where my partner's school is based. We got details for Crown, Pickfords and Dorree Bonner so will get quotes from all. I'm more concerned that my dogs will be taken care of when they go. Thinking Pet Air for them. Good luck with the medical. From memory, it was a breeze. x
  21. Jaclyn Hayes, which state are you moving to? We went to the Down Under Live exhibition today and got a bit more info for shipping and money transfers. We are waiting for my partner to get offered a teaching job and then we will put the house on the market. Whereabouts are you in the visa process? I had my partner visa before as I lived in Brisbane a few years back so hoping to get a resident returns visa now.
  22. Hi, Melanie here, moving to Brisbane with my Aussie partner in December with our two dogs. Partner is a deputy special needs co-coordinator and I am a crew scheduler for an Outside Broadcast company. Really excited about the move but pretty petrified too. Hoping to meet people on here that perhaps could meet for a few drinks when we all arrive. Good luck to all x
  23. Both our girls are spoilt and aren't treated like dogs. More like our babies
  24. Hi, I'm currently a rosterer/scheduler for an Outside Broadcast company in London (crew staff for filming). I'm moving to Brisbane in December and am hoping to do a staff rostering job there. Although not bothered if it isn't media related - more than happy to schedule staff in any other work place. Any ideas on websites or agencies etc. Or any other info will be much appreciated. Thanks
