Also I suggest you try U3A. Its an international organisation for over 50s and is big in Australia, as it is in the UK.  They offer a massive range of activities, many of which are free or very low cost and you simply have to pay a small annual membership fee.  It really is a great opportunity to get to know people, make friends and also to do interesting activities.  Try checking them out on line where you will see where your nearest branch is and also what they have on offer.

    Good luck!

I’m over in Perth, and have met lots of people, (some strange, but mainly goo on a website called Meet-up, it’s big over here, depending on your interests will depend on the different groups you go and look at.

i went on a couple that were not my cup of tea, but have made some friends on others, so if you try it, don’t think all groups are the same.

    Good luck

Did you not have first 600 valid for 3years

mine says 12 months from date of each arrival

so presumably after my first six months Offshore I can return without having to re apply?

Someone else also mentioned about re applying for their next 12mths? Am confused!

    This is mine.....

Apologies for the very, very late reply!! I have only just seen the message.

Both of my 600 visas have not had the health insurance condition or the no further stay, or max 12 in 18 month!

i think I have been very lucky.

    Hi Bev50Bradley,

I was wondering if you have found out which Centrelink is the most efficient to handle AOS in Perth? Hoping your invitation  comes soon.

Sorry, only just seen this message, I don’t know which is, but have previously dealt with the Cannington office for my Medicare card, so I will probably go there.

I’m not sure that’s entirely correct. As long as you don’t have the no further stay on your visa you can apply online in Australia to extend your visa. This information is on the home affairs website. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/visa-about-to-expire/stay-longer

Didn’t work for me, I didn’t have the ‘no further stay’ restriction, I applied for an extension paid $348 and it was refused stating that I needed extenuating circumstances and waiting for my parent Visa was not an appropriate reason.

Thus then returned to UK reapplied and was accepted.

We have an acknowledged visa application dated 3rd of July 2015 , our application was handled by Susan Johnson of get going based in Plymouth , she also handled our daughters however when it never came we spoke to Perth who confirmed no application had been made on behalf of our daughter who was distraught , she went anyway and received sponsorship from her employer and is now an Australian citizen , after a frantic call to Perth our application had been received thank god , I don’t know what that woman had done but our daughter lost 5k. The lesson is only use a Mira registered agent .

we have not had any communication from them and have no idea when we will be allocated a case worker , we have sold our house and are going to Melbourne in December we will have to suffer a Holliday or two to Bali , cheap hotels , when we renew our visa in March and when our parent visa is allocated , it’s a big risk but we have three children and a grandchild in Melbourne .

can anyone advise us  on changing our touristvisa to a longer stay one .

    Hi there

Youhave not been forgotten, I don’t think anyone who applied from July 15 has heard anything.

i am living in Perth on a E600 visa it last for 12 months but you cannot ask for an extension unless you have extenuating circumstances, you have to leave the country and reapply offshore. I am on my second E600 with no problems. I went back to the U.K. for a visit and reapplied it came through in 4 days.

    Hi Bridgie,

Did you have your three 600 visa's consecutively?

I am currently in Oz on one which, expires 28/10.  Any advise, comments greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am not sure if the 600 visas are all the same, as they sometimes have exemptions.

Mine states I can stay for 12 months after my last entry, if yours is the same you could nip over to Bali and reenter  Australia before 28\10 then your Visa will expire 12 months from the date you retun (unless you leave again in this extended time, it would then expire as you left the country)

Immigration told me the other week we can apply as soon we are off shore. They didn’t say we would be granted any visa, they just said you can apply. We shall seeemoji3.png

I am on my 2nd 600 now, been in Australia since Nov 16, you have to be offshore when applying for another 600, and it’s usually through in a few days.

    I wasn’t asked for a medical.

Also if I leave the country before the end of the initial 12 months I can stay here for 12 months after that. (Although should I leave Australia in that extended time for any reason the Visa expires on my exit)

Its hard mentally sometimes, " have I done the right thing " This week it's 80 degress in uk and pouring down in Perth !

Apart from that, we decided to have a few weeks off to recover from the stresses of the weeks/months leading up to our migration. Those weeks were a blur and nothing to do with the alcohol. With our house sale, disposal of stuff we were not taking, leaving party to arrange, sorting the stuff we were sending in the container, trying to visit friends and relatives and just not having time to do everything. Even up until 2 am the night before we flew sorting our baggage weights and even then the taxi came to pick us up at 8 am and were not ready and were 10 minutes late. In honesty that would be no surprise for me but my wife is mega organised and she struggled. So yes I would say plan a long way in advance and perhaps don't book the first available flight like we did. Try and get your friends and relatives set up with email, skype, watsapp etc so you can keep in touch.

You are leaving a lot behind that you will miss a little when you get here.

But it's been 4 weeks and we are living in Perth with our Daughter. Our son has been over from Melbourne so the stress was all worth it as they are the reason we came. We have eventually bought a car ( they are twice the price by the way) and just had offer accepted on a block of land that we are going to build on. We are not retiring and now we've had a few weeks off to complete the paperwork we are starting to look for jobs. Yet to see how Australia views the 60 + as far as being job candidates. One thing we have done is get our seniors cards as soon as we could. They are great !  free travel , discounts in many cafe's and restaurants etc , even money of driving license and rates plus lots of other perks, just for being old !! . First time I've been happy about it.   Read up on it and get one asap .

The Perth sky is nearly always big and blue, the sea is turquoise and the sand... sandy coloured. But we have left behind everything we know and are used to. We are starting fresh and at our age we wonder whether we will get to the comfy stage we had in the UK. But I can hug my daughter every day,  talk to my son who is now in the same half of the world as me, if any of us have a problem we can all be together within a few hours and that makes it all worth while.

The waiting room can be frustrating and the journey is emotional even when you eventually get here but it is well worth the wait. Good luck to everyone and keep looking to your future with your kids. This forum will be a great help , thanks.

Where in Perth are you, I’m living in Harrisdale SOR (south of river)

Congrats to all getting 2nd vac requests.  Busy times for everyone and probably some butterflies!  Has anyone with June/July 15 date had email to start the process ie meds, police Chequers etc? As we’re wondering how soon before they start asking! ?

No, I am still waiting, nothing requested either.
