  1. As of now Computer Network Engineer stands at 65 points. So if you lodged with 70pts, you'll probably get an invitation on the next round or the following. Would you be able to elaborate your points breakdown?

    edit:

Whoops, seems like I read it wrongly. If you already had an invitation and applied your visa since Dec 2016, the point system is irrelevant. All you need to do is to wait for the grant or CO contact. I don't think anyone can predict anymore in this forum and the trend is too vague. But you shouldn't wait no more than this December 2017.

  2. As as graduate, it took me 2 years to get a full time job that I want (software developer).

Though I found a full time contract job after 1.5 years, but not in the field that I want (helpdesk).

I have no prior experience, only part time in fixing computers. Mostly applied jobs through LinkedIn and Seek. So many interviews, so many high hopes, yet so many rejection.

What finally helped me to get a full time job was the job agent that helped me getting the contract job in the first place. It's real tough with so many competitions.

Hi @VicViP is this 00:00 Canberra time - so 15:00 the day before in UK time?

Hi Raven, it would be around that time.

For my invitation on 29 of March, I received an invitation on 11:21 pm on 28 March (Brisbane time).

Most invitation that I've witnessed would be around midnight of the invitation day.

hmm just have a quick read and there might be a concern from https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/485-

If you are applying as the main applicant, you and anybody else covered by the application must be in Australia when you apply for this visa and when your visa is decided.

Might want to seek a professional advice from an agent. Looking at your post, it seems like you're off-shore.

I've always been on-shore, so I've never experience such thing.

But yes, if you and your partner's visa granted, you would be able to work full-time without restriction.

Hi VicVip, thanks for the comment...I have   Degree certificate which states degree name, the grade and the final examination date. Also I have the academic transcripts for 6 semesters..are they enough or letter of completion is also required on top of those docs?

Hi Thomas, base on the ACS application checklist:

    Quote

Certified copy of your academic transcript
    AND
Certified copy of your award certificate OR completion letter (for Australian qualifications)
Ensure that the following information is detailed in your qualification documents:

    • Title of Degree or Award
    • Name of University or Awarding Institution
    • Date the Degree or Award was Completed
    • Unit or Subject Names and Grades or Marks Achieved
    • Abstract of Research if the qualification has been completed through Research

So yes a degree certificate and an academic transcript should be sufficient.

Has anyone taken the general? Is it much easier?

Not really. I found them to be similar, but general is easier to grasp overall. No need to take academic unless required to (for skill assessment).

But what I can tell is that there should be significant preparation to boost mark from 7 to 8, particularly in writing (or reading at times).

Just to clarify regarding the points:

    1. Forget overall score, its irrelevant in this case

    2. 7/7/7/7 score gives 10 points

    3. 8/8/8/8 score gives 20 points

  7. Given from your scenario, most likely yes.

    All she needs to do is to take an english exam, hitting the the "competent" english result;

As well as getting a positive skill assessment from ACS (which is the trickiest part I guess).

And yes, she needs to fulfil all the requirements.

Although with 60 points as Analyst Programmer (2611xx), may I suggest that you to bump your points further to at least 65 points, or better yet, with 70 points for an invitation in 2017-2018. If possible, get your partner to lodge an EOI as 261313 with at least 65 points.

  8. Applied all visas by myself. Started doing some research when applying visa 485, then my partner's 485.

Then moved on to 189. But everything is straightforward.

Had a consultation with an agent, but that is just ways for me to increase my EOI points.

  9. Highly doubt it.

    • Post-Study Work stream – for international students who graduate with a higher education degree from an Australian education provider, regardless of their field of study. This stream is only available to students who applied for, and were granted, their first student visa to Australia on or after 5 November 2011. A visa in this stream can be granted for up to four years from the date the visa is granted, depending on the visa applicant's qualification.

The fact remains that your very first student visa is from 2008. In 2016, you acquired your second student visa.

Would you know the minimum bar for 263312 Telecommunications Network Engineer?

Looking at the last available invitation round on April 12:

    http://www.border.gov.au/WorkinginAustralia/Pages/12-april-2017-round-results.aspx (wow accountant 80pts...)

2633x isn't listed as pro rata occupations, so 60pts is the minimum to get an invitation.

But mind you that as of now, it is 951/1000 for 2633x.

  11. My understanding is that Occupational Ceiling is used for the number of EOI.

If you have received your invitation and lodged your visa, it should be processed, regardless maxed occupational ceiling.

Though this time of the year, there is not much visa grant.

  12. It really depends on your occupation.

For instance, I lodged EOI for 261313 - Software Engineer with 60 points in February 2016.

Never received any invitation, since the minimum bar for 2613x is at least 65 points.

Increased my points to 65 points in January 2017, received an invitation in March 2017.

@VicViP - Whats your profession and when did you revert back to the CO? We are roughly around the same time.

    @joeh99 261313 - Software Engineer with 65 points.

Sadly I responded in 10 days, cus getting my national police clearance weren't easy. So notified CO on 14 April.

Lets hope for a swift response!

  14. Hi,

The answer to your question is no. They give you a wipe board (A4) and a pen to take notes and that's it. I found when I was practicing is you really need to get yourself into the zone. I closed my eyes and really concentrated on what was being said in the repeat sentence. Repeat lecture was a little tricky, I basically just took bullet point notes whilst listening to the lecture, I really thought I would score badly on that....but I didn't. I just kept talking, they are testing your fluency as much as content. The only thing I found quite off putting was the other test takers speaking around me. I was first in the room and had already completed my speaking part by the time the other test takers came in. By this time I was on the writing section and there were a lot of people around me talking loudly, it threw me off a little.

I wasn't expecting much when I sat my test as I felt terrible and had an awful migrane but I walked away with a superior score. If you practice to get a feel for the format of the test and you're mother tongue is English you should be just fine. Just focus and get yourself in the zone....worked for me....good luck

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep that in mind. I better practice more as I am really disappointed with my score from practice test.

    Results:

    Practice test A

    Listening 65

    Reading 60

    Speaking 60

    Writing 68

    Overall Score: 63

Aaaand after an extensive amount (9 hours) of study....

    Practice test B

    Listening 72

    Reading 58

    Speaking 58

    Writing 73

    Overall Score: 65

Will be having my real examination tomorrow. Hoping for the best :GEEK:
