  1. We use http://www.ukpostbox.com/, fantastic service, thus far never had an issue and always quick service
  2. I'm no expert, but the way I understand it, a PR can come and go as much as they want for 5 years after their Medical / Police Check date, as long as its activated within 1 year... however after 5 years you can stay forever but if you leave you can't come back without another visa
  3. I would like to ask this as well... I was quoted by them 104£ for a couple of boxes of books, seems extremely expensive to me, considering its going by sea its cheaper to buy the books again at the other end.
  4. Hi All We are hoping to buy a cheap runaround car when we arrive in Oz, as we don't need anything big or fancy... enough room for 2 adults and a young child... Max budget is hopefully $10k. Looking online lots of second hand Geely MK around, never heard of that brand, what are they like? Is it that they are popular thats why there are many available or are they a bad make? Any recommendations appreciated, want to buy in perth so if anyone has a dealership to recommend we go to! Thanks
  5. North and South Cambridge, They are called Oliver James Property Services... but doubt they would work down in south London, but no idea may work that far...
  6. I pay 6% with NO VAT, they will be registering for VAT but then said they will split the difference with me. I have two properties rented out at 695 and 1750... so I guess am worth it to them... but they started at 7% so didn't have to negotiate much... I have no idea how much you are renting it for, but the large the rental income the more you can push them down
  7. I would recommend you find a smaller 1/2 man agency, I've rented through some of the big boys and they dont care, just pass the buck around. Find yourself an agent that is starting out and you will get the time and attention you deserve as your business is worth it to them.
  8. Hi All We are looking at private health insurance ready for our move. 1) When I get quotes online, my wife is over 31 so they are adding the Health Care Levy, how do we go about getting that removed, would we need to book insurance over the phone instead of online? 2) Do people have any recommendations of Health insurance providers, we may be having another child in the next 12 months 3) We have spoken with CIGNA who offer 'international' health insurance, basically covers everything anywhere in the world, you pay hospital they pay you if its not a hospital they have a payment plan with... it works out as reasonably cost effective, but does anyone know if I am paying this in the UK from my UK income, can I still claim the discounts / rebate on Australian tax (I'll be australian tax resident)... Are there any 'health' insurance experts anyone recommends to speak with? Thanks
  9. Hi All We got our visas on the 8th July (WOOOHOOO), and are planning to move over around mid-September. I just wanted to mention, we used Mark Welch of cargilmigration.com (id: 0532994) and he was fantastic. He guided us through the processes very efficiently, via email and phone and reassured us every step of the way. We started on 26th December and we delayed it on purpose for a few months during spring as we thought we may need to give ourselves more time, he happily helped us with when to delay, then when things changed and we wanted to get everything done asap he immediately helped us get everything in immediately. If anyone is looking for an agent, do get in touch with him, I was very happy with his service
  10. Thanks for your messages... we both believe we will stay for good... but I hate to burn bridges / not keep things open. My current thinking is: 6 months in furnished (there does seem to be a few around which are reasonable priced) Then we decide if we are staying on.... if we are, then we start looking around for rental which is unfurnished and start the shipping process... so about 9month / 12 months in we are back with out things... Its not just saucepans... by the time you've repurchased enough to run a household (kitchen stuff / bedding / kids stuff) then I'm wondering if it becomes cost effective to fly it out...
  11. Hi We are planning to arrange things as a 6 month trial that we can return if we hate it afterwards. Therefore we are packing our things into storage in the UK and won't be shipping them until we are sure we are staying. My question therefore is what is the most economical way to bring everything we need with us. For Example we need to take saucepans, bedding, etc... plus have a two year old and need to bring at least some of her books and toys as she may be up to year without everything.... No chance that it will all fit in three suitcases! How have others tackled this? Is it cheaper to buy extra luggage allowance with airline? Am concerned even two suitcases per person might not fit everything in... both weight and size Thanks
  12. Other thing that occurs to me, what if I setup a Australian company that charged my uk company for 'services' (I can justify this)... then this would make the Uk Company not pay tax... the australian company would then pay me by Auz equivilient of PAYE / Dividends (whatever they are?)?
  13. Hi Planning our move in November. I own several properties in the UK and am also a Director / Shareholder of several UK Companies (Small Businesses) My plan is to continue to work and earn money from these Companies... what would my tax situation be? Do I continue to pay tax in the UK then just bring the money 'post-tax' to auz and spend it... or do I need to somehow not pay tax in the UK and pay it in Auz? At the moment I earn £7100 / year via PAYE and take the rest of my income via Dividends. I also earn property income directly from the houses I own and rent out. Thanks
  14. Sorry one more, on the 189 if you get sponsored by 1 state, do you have to move to that state or can you move anywhere in auz and search for work?
