  1. Thank you so much. Hi, sorry, some more things. 1. Apart from completing my skill assessment, will VETASSESS advise me how many years/points (0-15 points) will I get in my visa application for "skilled employment experience outside Australia"? This is very important because that will give me a good idea of my chances. 2. I am starting to consider the visa 190. For this visa you have to work the first two years in the nominated state but then you are free to work anywhere else in Australia, right? 3. The visa 190 for Chemist is eligible atm for NSW, SA, ACT and TAS. Correct? Thanks
  2. Thank you so much, and I promise these are my last questions And if my application is rejected (I am aiming to 85-90 points for the 189, so pretty uncertain outcome) those $4,045 will go down the drain? Since you know very well the process, how easy is to secure job from overseas with a 189/190 granted? Do Australian companies normally hire people with a permanent visa but living overseas? Can you share any personal experience (or from friends) in this regard?
  3. At what point do you pay $4000+ fee? This the important thing. Once invited, do you pay BEFORE applying for the VISA or AFTER is granted? I checked the website and it is not very clear. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/skilled-independent-189/points-tested#HowTo.
  4. Thank you! this is the kind of information I was looking for.
  5. But I am chemist not a pharmacist. My skill assessment authority is VETASSESS not APC, isn´t it? Sorry I might be missing something
  6. Thanks for the input. I hope the skill assessment is not an issue based on my qualifications. I am more worried about meeting the 90 points or more. One last remaining question, if after submitting my EoI and I am rejected, can still apply in the next months hoping that the invitation threshold decreases?
  7. Is it easier for 190? What is the invitation threshold? I prefer the 189 as I can apply for jobs everywhere but 190 could be an option
  8. I am 35 and have a PhD (45 points). I believe I have 8 years of relevant experience (15 points). 6 years as a chemist and 3 years as a regulatory affairs (related field). In addition I have 2 years as a postdoc in chemistry in Australia (5 points). My partner has very similar working experience (10 points). With a proficient English that will make 85-90 points (I took IELST and CAE in 2014 so I need to do it again). Anyway, that is my opinion but if I am wrong I wont have any chances. Is there any way I can confirm that my working experience outside Australia will give me 15 points?
  9. So, I have to spend around 1000 AUD to get a Skill Assessment (VETASESS) and 300 Euros on the IELST beforehand. If I do not get the invitation afterwards it will be for nothing.
  10. Thanks Paul, Yes, I have just read that in January 2020 is 90. I noticed that it varies a lot each month. In case I want to try anyway, would you recommend to take the English test and the skill assessment before submitting the expression of interest? Or should I wait for the invitation before doing it? Best
  11. Hi all, I am interested in applying for Visa 189. I am confident I can get around 75-85 points (test pass mark is 65) as I have relevant working experience, PhD, English certification, working experience in Australia under a visa 457, etc. Most importantly my profession is Chemist and it is included in the Skilled Occupations list for the 189. I was wondering if anyone can share experience seeking jobs from overseas with a visa 189 granted. I know this might seem that I am not committed with the decision to moving to Australia but I have a 2 year old kid and quitting my job and relocate to Australia with no income will be too much of a risk. Another question, does anybody know how often is Skilled Occupations list updated? or when was the last update? I do not want Chemist to be removed. Thanks in advance
  12. Thanks Raul and everyone for your kind help. As I only consider visas that gives PR from overseas (I have a family I don't want any risks), my options are: wait for Chemist to be included on 189/190 or consult a migration agent to see if my working experience fits with another occupation.
  13. I attached a screenshot for Chemist to clarify things
  14. After reading this article I am a bit confused (https://pathwaytoaus.com/blog/what-are-my-options-if-my-occupation-is-not-on-the-mltssl/). According to this article if the occupation is on the MLTSOL list you might be able to apply for a 189 visa. Is this correct? Chemist is on the MLTSOL list. Is that enough or it also needs to have 189 on visa subclasses?
  15. That's discouraging. So it seems that chemist won't be included anytime soon in the skilled occupation list. I am now working as regulatory affairs but only one year experience though.

    I am a Chemist and I have been checking the Eligible Skilled Occupations for the Visa 189 and my profession is not included for this visa (https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/work/work/skills-assessment-and-assessing-authorities/skilled-occupations-lists/combined-stsol-mltssl).

    Am I eligible to apply for this visa anyway? Would it be rejected? I wonder if can apply under other related occupation such as Chemistry technician (which is available for 190).

    Can VETASSESS tell me what occupations can apply to based on my CV?

    Thanks in advance for your kind help

      Hi Borja,

      I am unable to give specific advice based on such minimal information, but consider the following general information:

      • The occupation of Chemist is not currently on the relevant list for 189 or 190 visas, so this is not an option;

      • The occupation of Chemistry Technician is on the short term list, which means a 190 may be possible, although it would require state sponsorship;

      • The two occupations are very different from a Visa point of view, so would not be considered related for points purposes;

      • Vetassess are an assessing authority and do not and can not give visa advice;

      • Depending on your specific situation, an employer sponsored visa may be more achievable.

      Hi Raul,

      That's a very concise and clear answer, thank you. My occupation in my visa 457 was University Tutor by the way (not available for 189 or 190 anyway). I am a bit reluctant to apply to a employer sponsored visa because when I was under the visa 457 and living in Australia I was not able to get a single interview. In contrast, when I got back to Europe I did many. Was it just me and my occupation or it is normally really hard to find an employer that sponsors you?

  17. For the 489 you need to hold a subclass 475, 487, 495 or 496, don't you? I don't have any visa at the moment. Chemistry technician is included on the 190 but I am unsure if that occupation fits me. Does anybody know if VETASSESS can check your CV and tell you what occupations suits you? I would like to know that before doing any skill assessment.
  18. Hi, Thank you very much for your quick reply. Chemist is on the list, but apparently not demanded for visa 189. When I was working under the 457, I was considered University Tutor by my employer. Unfortunately, this occupation is also excluded for 189. Seeing my profile, would you recommend me other visa to apply to? Cheers

Am I eligible to apply for this visa anyway? Would it be rejected? I worked in Australia under a visa 457 but could not find a sponsor to apply for a permanent visa. I am now living in Spain and I want to secure a permanent residency as I find really hard to find a job that sponsors me. Thanks in advance Borja
  20. Thank you very much for your quick reply. I will follow you advice and get an employer reference as soon as possible. I take advantage of the occasion to ask you another question. How important is the birth certificate? I can´t see that document is mandatory in the Australian government website. However, I read somewhere that you need that to apply for a visa 457. Cheers
  21. Hi, I will soon apply for a visa 457. Most of my paperwork is done, but I still have one doubt. I am currently working in UK and I don´t want to quit my job till my visa is approved. Therefore, this make a bit complicated to get a reference from them because they can fire me. However, I have a copy of my contract where is included my position and dates of services but it is not included the position of the referee. Will be this good enough? I am also considering to omit this job in my application because my previous PhD experience should be enough to do my job in Australia. Thus, I this case I do have a reference from my employer. Thanks in advance,
  22. Thanks for your quick answer Ozmaniac. All clear now.
  23. Hi I have been nominated for a visa 457 from an Australian University. My occupation will be University Tutor (242112). I am wondering if I need a:457 Skills Assessment conducted by a registered training organisation or Vetasses skills assessment for general Professional Occupations Based on the information that I have found in the Australian Government website seems that my occupation is exempted: https://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/pesp-exemptions.htm Anyone knows if I need a Skill assessment?. I am Spanish by the way. Thanks in advance Carlos
