  1. Finally making the big move to Brisbane Cleveland area after a long stressful time..... Looking to move mid Jan 2017. Could anyone please give me some advice on schools with in the area. I have a 5 year old who will need a school place ASAP. We have been approved at Cleveland State School but would really like some personal feedback.
  2. I'm sure I'll find time for blasting out on the jetski ;-)
  3. Thank you all for your help. Can't bloody wait!!!
  4. Shorter hours for me would be less than what I'm working now which is 14 per day 6 days a weeks then a sunday morning, I have done this for 11 years now just so we can get to Australia in the 1st place. Have some cash for a house deposit if we decide to stay and buy over there but once there I just want to work 50 / 60 hrs per week would do me nicely.
  5. Life is what you make of it my friend, I was a complete waster in my youth and was told I would amount to nothing and boy have I proved them wrong. I know the Oz dream will have to be worked at once there but the harder you try the closer it gets. We will make this work. Thankyou
  6. My friend over there runs a mine and can get me in if I wanted too. If hgv fitters are 2 a penny then I will struggle but will never know unless I try and because we have already got our PR visa I would be stupid not to test the water. As I said I do really well in this country but it comes a time when enough is a enough of working all hours and missing out on my family life so I thought Australia would be the place to do this so I hope I'm not to deluded. Thanks Andy
  7. Hi all and thanks for the replies. I'm a hgv fitter / welder. I have ran my own business in U.K for the past 12 years and its booming so people think I'm mad to give it up but there's more to life than money and working all the hours of sends. I don't mind travelling. I can get a job on the mines for mega money but I want to spend time with my young family before it's too late. Hope you understand.
  8. Ok, got PR family visa all sorted and we're heading out in March for a 2 week sussing out holiday. The question is where? It's in QLD we have agreed that but what part. Has to be near the coast line so somewhere like Victoria point or right up the sunshine coast area. I know it's our choice but is there a site that gives true point scoring rather than public hear say. We are a family of 4 with 1 daughter aged 5 and 1 aged 18. Any help or feedback from own experience would be fantastic. Thanks in advance. Andy
  9. I hear where your coming from but would need a container for my work things but I see what you mean about loosing the things that can be replaced. The house ATM is not worth much at all due to it's condition but once complete it will be worth £30000 more than what we paid for it. Need to work harder I think ;-)
  10. Thats the worse case AJ but not thinking that yet. I really need to be there now lol
  11. AJ, We're heady to Brisbane and could not leave our dogs with anyone. As for having a manager to run my business is not an option as it's a 1 man band op for a skilled HGV fitter. Not too bothered about not selling the business as the assests would sell no bother. We also need about £9000 to get our house ready to sell so it just gets worse.
  12. Hi all, Me, my wife, my youngest child will be staying in Oz but my eldest is coming over with us for 3 weeks to get her visa started then coming back to UK to finish Uni. We have our visa's granted and have to be in Australia by 23rd April 2016 but we are really struggling getting money together. I have a business to sell which has been on the market for a year now with no success. Just a quick breakdown of what we have worked out, (worsed case) Flights = £4000 Dog shipping = £5000 Removals = £4000 We are really unsure of how much money we will need once we are there for rent, food etc. We have $9000 AUD ready saved but seems along way off from what we need plus I have no job lined up (heavy diesel fitter) as we have gone with an independant PR visa. Really can't stress how much this feels like it's falling apart.
  13. Wow thatnks very much for the reply. we're looking to pay a company to do all our shipping including packing + inventory. Has anyone got any recommendations? Also the price we have has to ship our dogs over is crazy - over 7k
  14. Thanks for the reply but I was wanting to know if I could put the ski and scooter in the same container as my furniture?
  15. Hi guys, My family and I have been granted our PR visas and are set to go to Brisbane early next year. This thread is really about what would be ok to take in a container along with our belongings. I own a jetski with a trailer which I would love to take across but don't know if I can or if it will be cost effective. I also have a vespa which I want to take as this will be my daily ride to work etc. Both ski and scooter are crazy money to buy in Oz and plus I've owned these from new and know the history. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Well thank you for all the nice replies. After leaving the topic for a few days the family is having a get together today to discuss our future. Will post updates soon.
  17. Well I honestly don't think I can come to leave her behind, maybe if I could hold back for a few years but the businesses and things have already been sold so I'm really stuck.
  18. Considering she doesn't live with her mam not has not done for years and plus she was pushing to get there asap so yeah I am surprised she doesn't want to go now!
  19. No my agent it right, it was me that said 1 month so she can get a feel for the place.
  20. Don't know if this is the right place to put this thread but here's my story so far. I have 1 wife, 1 ex wife and 2 children aged 3 and 16. The eldest is to my ex (bitch) and the youngest to my wife now. After years of planning we decided to start the ball rolling for Oz. Everyone was up for it so I done my Ielts then tech interview which I passed both, the next was EOI and then last night the dreaded words were heard. Dad I don't want to come to Oz as I'm settled here in college and have a steady boyfriend (GRRRRRRRR). So I have my wife and 3 year old who wants to go, I have my 16 daughter who doesn't want to go and me who is stuck in the middle. I know my 16 year old will love it over there but will miss her mam, sisters and boyfriend. My agent said if we all enter Oz in August as planned then my eldest can leave back to UK after a month which then opens her visa and lets her have 5 years to re enter if she changes her mind. But what if we go over there and the 16 year old comes back to UK and never comes back to live and the rest of my family love it over there and never want to return to UK. Why is this such a ball ache!!! Advise please.
  21. Well just got back from Manchester today after sitting my Tech interview this morning. Must say it went ok apart from the internet connection going down a few times. I answered all questions with as much detail as possible. He asked me about repairing and rebuilding starters, alternator etc and I was honest and told him that in our day and age we replace rather than repair due to getting downtime to a minimum so I have very little knowledge in this apart from 15 year ago in college. I think I done ok and the secret is giving answers in depth which helped a lot as although the topic was about eg. stability control I also covered yaw control and brake pressures along with EBS etc which made us skip quite alot of slides but the results will tell all in 10 days time. Andy
  22. Ok, I now have to do a tech interview on Diesel Motor Mechanic (Heavy Commercial Vehicle) at Manchester next month. I've looked at the common units they ask. Engines and fuel Steering and suspension Braking Trans and drivelines Batteries and electrical systems. So I've done fitting for over 20 years now but have never been put to the test. I run my own business fitting and have done for 10 year +. Would like to know what kind of Q's get asked. on the units I'm not to good on. Engines and fuel = Confident Steering and suspension = Confident Braking = V confident Trans and drivelines = Unsure Batteries and electrical systems.= Unsure.
