  1. In UK in our school at least they only wear pe kit (which is shorts and t shirt) for PE! ie they leave the bag in school for the whole term and only bring it home when it needs washing. It was a bit gross to me in reception, so i was washing it every week, but now chilled a little and dont bother. So the girls wear sports trousers all day, pe or no pe? That;s not quite girlie is it (I have very girly girls, youngest refuses to wear trousers full stop - and her older sister only wears leggings with tops sometimes, only has one pair of jeans and never wears them either!) Good they have the skirt and polo shirt option- what do they wear on their legs- socks, tights (melbourne does get cold in winter so I hear?) And what kind of shoes do girls wear, if its not trainers/ with PE kit? I was thinking on stocking up on some shoes/ polo shirts from UK, but not sure what colours would be required yet. Thank you everyone!
  2. This is all right and well, but honestly, the look of aus uniforms terrifies me. It's prob ok if you have a boy, but my girl here has a white top or shirt with a lovely pinafore dress with bows etc I researched the nearest 4 schools to us in Melbourne and am quite terrified of their look. They only seem to have one summer dress option (no pinafores or warmer dresses?) and i hate that check design here in UK too so we hardly ever wear it here (and it s almost never warm enough anyway!). Oh, and no hot lunches?!? Rant over Hopefully these will be my only quibbles with aussi schools and actual teaching and facilities are brilliant!
  3. I found there are all the schools websites on this site- as well as ratings- http://bettereducation.com.au/school/Primary/vic/melbourne_top_government_primary_schools.aspx you can see on the top you can choose state schools, non-government schools etc Now if someone can point me in the direction of exact catchment zones (like on a map) that would be fabulous- we are starting in Mentone/Parkdale and there seems to be 4 schools- just need to see if they are zoned/ whose zone are we in exactly and can we try and apply for a different one...
  4. Just spoke to Etihad, they dont do any more than 30 kg, and it is 7kg for hand luggage. No free hotel as it is a "transit", not a "stopover". Am looking at booking premier inn airport hotel, 68 quid for family room for 2 nights (funny ha- staying for 14 hours but need to pay for 2 nights to get early check in, and stay till evening. Still, a small price to pay for a proper bed if we need a quick lie down.
  5. jac2011, we fly Etihad too on 27th August, on to Melbourne via Brisbane, just booked the tickets yey! We have 14 hour stopover- do you happen to know about their stopover free hotel room or something, there are some strange options on their site I dont understand! Will need to call them I suppose. DId you ask them for extra luggage allowance too? If we do, I think will have to go to buy suitcases, dont have that many to hold 4 x 40kg! Maybe anyone also knows, if we bought our tickets 14 December, do we get refund of child tax thingy too, or was it already cut off? It just said taxes and charges, although kids tickets were like 100 quid each cheaper.
