Hi, our visa 189 will soon reach it’s 5 yr expiry and we have not moved yet. We would like to have another year to move. Can anyone advise how to extend the visa?

There is an article from an online newspaper stating that Home Affairs Department to force new migrants to live in regional areas. I cannot view the article. How true is this? Can anyone share more information?

Hello all, I am on visa 189 and have been travelling to oz every year for the last four years on short trips. I will need to make the move to Oz within a year now but I am still not ready for personal reasons. Is there a way to extend the visa so that I get extra time to move?

Hi, I see that the Opal card fared is capped at $15.40 per day. Does that also include ferry rides in Sydney? If I have reached $15.40 rides in a day, will I pay if I go in the ferries after that?

I have only one day to spend there. Any coach tours at good price you can recommend? Driving is not an option for me

Permanent roles for Architect type roles are fairly strong at the moment, and that usually indicates markets picking up. I am in Melbourne and we are recruiting as are the clients we work with. We currently have about 50 roles nationwide across security, networks, architecture, Wintel, DBA's, Mainframes, storage, ESX,CRM, and guys i know who work in IT are also recruiting in webapps and testing as well.

There are plenty of skilled workers unemployed - the immigration lists should never be regarded as actual job availability. My own occupation is still available (even though our proffessional body has begged for its remova) and we have a 40% unemployment rate.

where did you get the stats of brits returning to uk?

The level of unemployment is rising in oz and yet lots of migrants coming in. Is it going to get better in oz or will the situation just worsen?

I'm also concerned by the high level of unemployment and lay-offs as I plan to move there next year. Will the situation change for better... That's what we hope for...

I got my 189 Visa in March, and we activated the visa on a visit in June. We've now postponed our planned move as the IT jobs market seems quite scary. Recruiters I've encountered are contemptuous and unhelpful, emails and calls aren't returned. Many job adverts seem to prefer local experience or Australians....which in IT makes zero sense. And I don't believe half the advertised jobs actually exist.

 

So we're holding out in Switzerland for now...in another tough market, although for me going to Oz now would be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. Hopefully things will pick up in a couple of years as we don't want to let go of our chance to live in such an amazing country full of amazing people. It's just IT recruiters I hate

Just in case anyone here has the skills I am currently looking for a mid level SQL Server DBA, needs experience of replication and all the generic production support skills you would expect. Based in Brisbane CBD i cant sponsor for this role so need to be in OZ already.
