No problem, AMP, but if someone could answer my query regarding extended 12 month tourist visa, I would be grateful.
Thanks
Our 600 visa showed we were allowed multiple entries in the year and we could stay for 12 months maximum each time, so we left in the eleventh month for a week in Bali and then returned and stayed for a further 12 month period.

Thanks Brenda, that is helpful. Did you apply for two years on the 600 visa from the start? Can you remember roughly how long it took to process and whether it was straightforward? Presumably you were able to link into Medicare via the reciprocal arrangements but were you required to take out additional medical insurance? (Sorry for all the questions!)
I really think this may be the answer for me now. incidentally it wasn't my agent who advised against this route - it was Geoffandgills.
We just applied for 12months but when the visa was granted there was the option as Bridgie said of entering Australia multiple times within a 12 month period, (with a 12 month stay allowed on each entry), so by leaving the country after 11 months, we could return before the visa expired and stay for a further year. ( I did phone the visa office on 3 different occasions to confirm this was so, as I was concerned I'd misread it!).
I think we were granted the visa within a couple of days and it was a very straightforward process. We did take out health insurance for the duration.
Hope this helps!

Hi everyone
I have now joined the band of "fed ups", feeling that my application to join my family is getting nowhere. In Dec 2015 I applied for the 143 visa, hoping to be able to benefit from being able to spend time with my grandchildren while they were still young, but at the rate the visa processing is going, the youngest will have started school by the time I get there! i'm also looking to move on my own as I was widowed 2 years ago and want to be able to pick up my life in Australia where BOTH my children live. Is anyone else in this position, moving singly? Most comments I read on this forum appear to be from couples. It would be good to make contact with others who are in similar circumstances.
Anyway, at the moment I feel in limbo land so am now starting to investigate temporary visas to allow me to move over early whilst waiting for my 143 application to be processed. Can anyone advise me what is the best way? I'm thinking the 600 visa, or maybe I am better waiting for the new temporary visa for parents which is coming up in July. Just don't know which would be the best way to go, particularly as I wont want to join another long queueing process. I partly wonder whether the long delays with the CPV are being orchestrated to encourage people in the currently 143/173 queues to redirect down this new temporary parent visa path.
Any advice greatfully received!
Hi Angela
My husband and I stayed for nearly 2 years on a 600 visa without any problems. We booked one way flights when we came, although as mentioned previously, if you feel happier, it's not much more to book a return. We had no issue entering the country without a return ticket. I believe the 600 visa is supposed to be used by parents in our situation, awaiting a permanent visa, so I'm not sure why your agent is hesitant, unless he knows something we don't! My advice would be to spend as much time as you can over there, if you're able to.

The long journey has finally ended, flew to Bali last night and received THE email from immi at 9.00am this morning to say PR is granted. Our legs and bums are a little stiff from sitting in the waiting room for so long, but we have finally made to through the door. So after a very long wait it's great to say..... whooohooo.
11am is no too early to start a liquid celebration is it.
Congratulations! enjoy Bali, hope the celebrations are still going on!!

My agent also said they are requesting medicals and Police checks in advance of the Case Officer being allocated. I haven't been asked for my medical just yet, but the agent expects it to be any day and has said I should go ahead with the Police check.
That's really good to know! We are not using an agent for our application, so weren't aware they'd changed the system again for the time frame for getting Police checks etc.
I'm also wondering how Immi interpret the "have lived in any of the countries listed on this page for a total of one year or more in the last 10 years", as regards Police certificates. I have visited Spain many times in the last 10 years, which would add up to more than 365 days but not technically "lived" there. I'm wondering if I will have to get a certificate for Spain? Anyone any idea?

Hi Brenda,
I've only been there a couple of times but love it too. We will be more in the burbs of Melbourne, Oakleigh area, but I think a coffee on the Peninsula might be in order once we're both moved over.
Maybe @juliew1499 would care to join us?
Anyone else heading that way?
Jan
Yes, definitely!

Hi Jan
We're going to the Mornington Peninsula, we've been staying there off and on for the last three years, so have got to know it quite well.

Hi all. I think it's time to come into the waiting room and join in the fun.
We submitted our application on the 1st December 2014 and were hoping to be in Oz by now based on the timeline when we applied.
So, here we are. Patiently, or not so patiently, waiting.
Jan
Hi Jan
Welcome to the forum! We're very close on our dates, so we'll be progressing through this together, hopefully.
It's nice to have someone with a similar timeline.

Hi Everyone
By my reckoning, once Geordiejoe has his visa - and we hope it won't be long now Joe - the only remaining 2014 lodgers that we know about on this site are:
Catlady2014 1 Oct 2014
Clerk85 10 Oct 2014 (143)
Brenda M 5 Dec 2014
If there are any more 2014 lodgers, would you please let us know when you lodged your visa, what visa type you applied for and where you are up to. It would be really helpful to help us track the procession in the waiting room, it still feels awfully crowded in here so it is difficult to believe that there are only a handful of 2014 lodgers to process before IMMI starts on 2015 lodgers. It would be great news if that was the case because it would mean that we will see the processing date start to zip along!!!
Wouldn't that be an amazing start to 2017!!

Did someone just slam the waiting room door????? Oh yes it was me on my way out. VISA GRANTED!!!!!!! Whoopee!
can,t believe it after all this time, Thinking of you Sadge, Tien, Steve 1 and Geordie Joe it will soon be your turn.
Julie
Congratulations Julie!

Hi Brenda
Great to see someone else in the Mt Martha area, thought I was the only one! Good luck with the waiting I know it is very hard but it appears that things are moving forward now.
Julie
Hi Julie
It's a lovely area isn't it, we love it there.
You're so close now, you must be feeling so relieved, hope all goes well for your final stage!

Hi Brenda,
We're doing it the other way round. We leave Spain in two weeks, having been here for 11 years and take up 1 year 600 visa multi entry. We are based Sunbury Vic, know Mount Martha well. Small world 'eh
It certainly is! We lived in Ibiza for 10years before our stay in Australia. You're moving there at just the right time, I'm missing the Oz summer..it's rained non stop for the last week in Marbella!

Hi everyone
Thought it was time I joined the forum ( now I know it exists!) as my husband and I lodged our application on 5th Dec 2014.
Obviously we thought we would now be very close to getting our 143 visa, or even possibly have had it granted by now, working on the 18-24month estimate given at the time but it's apparent that's not going to happen!
We've been living on and off in Mount Martha, on the Mornington Peninsula for the last three years, taking breaks away when necessary for our visa. We're currently waiting out the last few months in Spain but like all of you, can't wait to (hopefully!) be permanently settled, and get on with our lives in Australia and be with our family.
Cheers
Brenda
