  1. Are there any marketing specialists out there still waiting? There are a few on the sheet.

I recently just passed the 8 month mark, TRT Marketing Specialist, LR. No sponsor approval or visa update as yet. Employer is an approved sponsor (2nd largest employer in Victoria!).

    Cheers

I won't be able to give much detail but someone I know got their visa approved mid January 2018. She applied as a Marketing Specialist around April 2017, TRT, HR, 3 people, onshore, Melbourne.
I know them but I'm not close enough to ask details about documentation and so on, sorry.
  2. Today we received a call from someone saying to be from Border Protection. He asked for my boss and gave his mobile for my boss to call him back. Said it was nothing to worry about, just to confirm some information about the business.
Before I could reach my boss I spoke with one of our migration lawyers (we have two!) and he said that it was most likely a scam. That no one from Immi give their mobile phones and he has heard about something dodgy going around.
Once I spoke with my boss I gave him all this information. He rang the number anyway and the guy asked who was being sponsored at the moment, how the 457 visa has helped/affected the business, what my boss thinks of the visas in general. It sounded really weird but I guess we will never know it was a legit call from Immi or not.

  3. I applied 186 TRT in Melbourne in June 2017 (nomination was in May 2017). Neither nomination or visa have been opened yet, no case officer allocated. My agent said that it will take at least another 6 months but he can't see why it wouldn't be approved. Fingers crossed.

  4. Nothing against you but I find it really unfair that other people have been waiting for longer than the published processing times (+15 months) and other people are getting their visas in such short time... I feel like the DIBP should be more open and honest on how they are operating. This is becoming really ridiculous and disrespectul for the many applicants that are already contributing to Australia economy and have their lives on hold... I am so pissed! It's not unfair, 4 months sounds right for 457 visas.

  5. I hope you are not going through people's visa details without their knowledge just to compare timelines........

No, I'm not. I didn't disclose any names or personal information so as far as I'm concerned I didn't break any privacy rules.
As a manager it's my job to go through their paperwork upon hiring and the only reason I shared it here was to, maybe, give a peace of mind to some. Not you, clearly.

  6. The place I work for asks for copy of visa, passport, ID and so on upon hiring new staff. Just last week I got 3 PR with the following timeline:

1 - Chef/Cook (not sure the exact occupation)
    186 TRT
Visa lodged on November 2016 and approved May 2017

2 - Chef/Cook (not sure the exact occupation)
    186 TRT
Visa lodged on September 2016 and approved March 2017

3 - Not sure the exact occupation, his sponsor was a college
    186 TRT
Visa lodged on October 2016 and approved February 2017

All in Victoria, if not wrong in Melbourne.

  7. considering he was already working for his employer when the visa got approved isn't then logical to consider that his 457 started upon the visa grant?

    ops, forget it.
i have misread the dates and thought she was working for the employer on any other valid visa while the 457 visa was being processed and got approved.
maggie is correct on what she said then.

  8. Eligibility for the TRT stream has nothing to do with your earnings while holding a 457.
OP - I'd assume February 28th would be considered too early.  I'm not sure if March 1st is considered to have completed 2 years on your 457.  Logically I'd assume it is but rather than take the chance, I wouldn't apply before March 2nd to be on the safe side.

  9. Hi there,
My sponsorship and Nomination application has been lodged by my employer but yet to get any response. I am also planning to lodge my application. I was wondering do I have to purchase health insurance while I lodge my application. Or should I wait till the case officer asks for it?
If I consider to purchase the insurance, will the cost start counting when I land Australia or will it start right from my payment?

    Thanks

you can wait to get the insurance until your case officer requests it however as said before it might slow things down.
you'll be charged when the coverage starts (insurance company will ask when you would like to start with then).

when i did mine i did after lodging my visa but before the c.o. asked for it (don't remember if i even had a c.o. allocated already or was still waiting for one). i did it in mid june and requested the coverage to start from july 1st.

  10. Hi all. I'm eligible to apply from the 457 to 186 visa however our accountant is holding me back as he is yet to finish the 2016 financials. Cutting long story short I would like to know if it's possible to consider the training benchmark as a cumulative figure or if it has to be year by year.

For example: if 1% our payroll it's 20,000 and we have spent $50,000 on apprentice's wages on the second year can the balance counts towards the third year?

Appreciate if anyone can shed a light. Thank you [emoji5]

  11. The paragraph you have quoted comes from Policy.

You situation is complex and it would be difficult to give you a definitive answer if I had access to all of the relevant details such as qualification certificates, employment references, etc. Based on a few lines in a post, it is impossible to give you specific advice.

Based on what you have posted, you do not meet the requirements of the Regulations for the Direct Entry pathway. Depending on the specifics of your case however, an argument may be made based on Policy guidelines. The outcome however, would then depend on Case officer interpretation and thus difficult to gauge chance of success.

Thank you Raul, this is exactly the answer I was looking for. It might be impossible on my case but yet it's not an impossible scenario :)

  12. Getting information you need is not going to happen on a forum. The agents on forums provide general assistance. However, you need to actually appoint and pay the fee for an agent to go through this - they aren't charities and you need professional advice

I've paid two agents so far and I'm more than happy to pay for any information that could help me. The money I was talking about before was fees for both Vetassess and the Visa itself. I'm aware this is not charity and I'm not expecting it to be.

And the information I'm looking for is general: either Immi considers part-time work or they don't. Even though a professional advice would be best anyone that might have gone through this process could shed a light.

  13. Hi Raul, thank you for your answer. My biggest issue is that one of the agents I spoke with said something similar to the following:

"Employment should be full time. ENS recognises that, in addition to full-time work, there now exists a range of variable employment arrangements. Citizens of numerous countries depend on multiple income earning strategies to make a living. In Australia, part-time work arrangements and variable working hours are increasingly common. This will impact on how work experience is calculated. If work experience is to be expressed in full-time terms, for part-time workers this can be calculated pro-rata. For example, if the requirement is for 3 years of relevant full-time work experience, if part-time work is at 50% of a full-time load, the applicant must be able to demonstrate they have worked in that occupation on a part-time basis for 6 years."

I found above information online after speaking with the agent, and just copied and pasted it here to make it easier to explain why I'm so confused. I could just get the assessment done and apply for the visa to see with my own eyes if works or not, but I can't afford putting so much money into something that I don't even know if there's any possibility of a positive outcome.

  14. Hello, I have a question that has been eating me alive for months so here I am to see if any of you can help me!

I've been working as a Cafe Manager since November 2012 and until August 2014 I worked part-time as I were on a Student Visa. On August 2014 I got my 457 Visa and worked for employee A until April 2015, when I transferred my Visa to employee B (where I've been ever since).

I would like to apply for my PR asap, however to go through the 186 Transition Stream I must wait until April 2017. I'm looking into any other option I might have and only one I could find is doing 186 Direct Entry. For that I need to get my skills assessed by VETASSESS and they requirements are:

"Cafe or Restaurant Manager (ANZSCO Code 141111) - This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation. In addition to this, applicants must have at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years in a field which is highly relevant to the nominated occupation. If employment is not post-qualification, then three additional years of highly relevant employment are required.

If the qualification is not in a highly relevant field, two years of employment at an appropriate skill level, completed in the last five years which is highly relevant to the nominated occupation is required. This is reduced to one year if there is an additional qualification at least at AQF Certificate IV level in a highly relevant field.

A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is required for a positive Skills Assessment Outcome."

I do have one year of post-qualification employment, but then as far as I know for 186 Direct Entry Immigration asks for 3 years of relevant experience.

My question is: could I use 1.5 years part-time experience (Nov 2012 to Aug 2014) + 2.5 years full time experience (Aug 2014 to Nov 2016) to do VETASSESS assessment and apply for PR? Will Immi accept this experience as relevant? If they do so I could apply in November this year instead of waiting until April 2017.

Any light will be appreciate. Thank you =)
