  1. I can't believe how many people are complaining about TV & Radio. Firstly radio is SO much better in Australia. Triple J (and RRR in Perth at least play a diversity in music and not just the top 100 usual mainstream crap). And secondly, I think most of you have forgotten what TV is like in the UK. 1/3 of the shows on these days happen to be Australian anyway, and the rest is either British panel shows or US tv shows.
  2. Nice place, seems a bit small. Really beautiful beaches, has some great surfing spots if you're into that, but the water is coooooold!! Also it can get quite rainy at certain times of the year, and the weather is cooler than Perth. You should definitely look in depth into the job situation as I've heard it can be quite difficult to get a job there due to the small market. That being said I have a few friends who grew up there and they loved it.
  3. Thats a long way with a small child! I'm with the others- fly! Take a road trip some other time.
  4. Haha! This is definitely a possibility! However I think my family would kill me if after 5 years of uni I suddenly decide to be a chef! haha
  5. Oh wow, I knew it was in decline but I didn't realise it was that bad. I'm also aware that it's generally the enviro jobs that get cut first in most industries. Hopefully it will pick up again by the time I come early next year, otherwise I might be expanding my career as a bartender haha, which unfortunately wouldn't do my quest for eventual PR any favours. Thanks for the info, goodluck to your mates!
  6. Cheers mate, I'll check them out! Thanks for the feedback
  7. I'm a Civil/Environmental Engineer. Ideally I would like to work within the mining industry (or for the mining industry through engineer consultancies), but as a recent graduate I realise I should take whatever I can get haha, so I'm not fussy!
  8. Don't worry you'll be fine! .......That being said I failed twice, once for not knowing the speed limit when randomly asked (inner city so had to be 50) and once for the instructor having to intervene haha. I've always been such a careful driver as well, nerves sure can get the best of you sometimes. But that being said none of the questions were technical, you just do the theory, get in the car (drive, parallel park, 3 point turn etc...), and then do the hazards test which is very, very easy so don't worry! Note: I took my WA driving test in 2009, so some aspects may have changed since then.
  9. Hey Lisa, I'll take you up on that offer to help haha. Just wondering what the job market is like these days for recent graduates? I'm an engineer hoping to come over in a few months on a 476 Skilled Grad visa. I lived in Perth for 4 years in the past but have been back in the UK since 2010, so I feel brand new once again! I'm hoping it won't take too long to find a job as the visa is only valid for 18 months (don't want to spend the whole time unemployed!), plus ideally I would like to maybe eventually get sponsored out of this situation.
  10. You're brother will be there won't he? So it won't exactly be alone. Either way, it's a great city, I'm sure you'll meet people easily. Have fun!
