  1. Thank you all. And thank us you Kirsty. Good to know about the bars accreditation and other companies stepping in. With that in mind do you think there's a real need to pay on credit card? Given its a 2.5% fee! All adds up!
  2. I phoned and asked this afternoon where he said he wasn't a member of FIDI but said he couldn't tell me why. Make me a bit worried. They're a lot cheaper than the other companies which also makes me think why?! We want to go with them because of the price but bit wary.
  3. Hi Im after some advice. We are moving to Brisbane in March. We've had various quotes from about 6-7 companies. The cheapest quote we had was from Pickfords and I was planning to go with them. But I've recently read about their financials problems a few years ago and how they went into administration. And this concerns me. I am also trying to find if they are a member of FIDI but I can't find this anywhere. Does anyone know? I know there's a few things you can't write about on this forum so not sure if I've touched on one of those areas. If I have then sorry admin! Bit it if anyone has any insight that would be great! Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the info on the shared container. Very useful. I guess I now need to call around as few companies and get some quotes. Only issue is They are going to ask m how much stuff I have and I've no idea what my stuff relates to in boxes or volume!
  5. Hi jess I live in London and moving over to Brisbane in January. I'm married to an Ozzie and we go over every year so know a bit about babies in Oz! And as it's been said no car seat that comes from Uk can be used in Oz. I too have the maxi cosi cabrio- its a great car seat and works fab with my icandy. But in Oz they have these strange car seats for babies that look more like shopping baskets. They're a real pain especially when you want up get a sleeping baby out of them. They wake up every time! But it is what it is! X
  6. Do you know roughly how much shared containers are? How does that work? Assume the company takes your stuff away and then loads it to a shared container so everything has to be boxed up? I couldn't have random laundry bags of linen or random kids scooter?
  7. Thanks for all the replies. Really useful! I've already gone out today and bought some new towels! Bed linen is next! Now im in a dilemma as I think I will have too much stuff for a large movecube but not enough for a container. I've not spoken to any shipping companies but from what I've read they average about £4-5k? Is that right? So I'm thinking 2 move cubes may be the best option as that would be about £2k. What have other people done when they are inbetween a movecube and container size? Thanks
  8. Nappies are more expensive but not massively significantly and everything is more expensive. Maybe 30-40% more than they are here depending on what price you get them for here. BUT they are rubbish!! We are a pampers family and they don't have them in Oz. We use the Huggies but they're not as good. You'll need to make sure you buy the right size for when the move cube gets there! You won't want your little one to have grown out if them!
  9. I'm thinking of doing the large movecube but no idea if be big enough. Things I'm thinking of taking are my double bed ( as it's so comfy!) and maybe the kitchen table as it collapses. But no other furniture. Then clothes, books, various kids toys but I don't know what, paintings, kitchen aid and baking stuff, daughters scooter, golf clubs, dolls house, This is getting boring if I list everything. things i I thought id not take pots and pans crockery and glasses and mugs. knifes and forks bread maker??? I use it a lot so not sure on this one all furniture except my bed rugs and cushions winter clothes bike Etc etc Anyone still reading?!? How did you sell what you left behind?
  10. Hi i am moving with my husband and 2 young kids at the end of January 2015. I'm just starting to try to plan in my head what to take and not to take and what to do with the things we don't take. My thoughts are that I will ebay some stuff but I'm also thinking of doing a house clearance sale (like a garage sale except we don't have a garage so be in the house!) a few weeks before we go to try and sell the things in mass eg kitchen stuff, some toys, camping stuff etc. Has anyone done this before and any feedback or tips? When do you recommend to start getting rid of things? I'd like to start clearing now but there's not much I can think of to sell yet! And any any tips on what in hindsight you wish you'd taken or are really glad you did bring? And the opposite- things that should have stated behind. Did people with kids take things like their kids toys and books? They've got loads that we can't bring them all but such a shame to get rid of! My son was 1 last month and was given so much - I don't know what to do with it! Thanks for your feedback. Hopefully this will help with my move daisy.
