  1. Does your husband want to move? Is he as keen?

The pay rise he has been offered is great but money isn't everything.

Can't speak for everything but Melbourne has to be one of the most boring places in Australia! Coffee shops and man bags comes to mind.

4 year old son will fit in anywhere, here there or Iraq, he doesn't care as long as he is fed and laughs! Do what you both have to do!

If you go into a potentially dangerous environment it's up to you to protect yourself.

Thus I think shark culls are not the answer.

People who choose to enter the water do so at their own risk. They should therefore protect themselves by buying something like a "shark shield" it costs about $600 and works off a localised electric field.

General swimmers don't need one, but surfers who choose to go into great white territory do.

    Just saying.... They don't work.

Surf regularly. Few mates have them..... Still makes no difference.

Maybe if they reduced prices here then people wouldn't look at importing

    THIS.

People will find a way to bring stuff into the country. Unless things are changed here, stuffs expensive here. If you're prepared to wait 2 weeks, eBay is the go!

  4. This thread is now over a year old. I have been here a year!!!!!! Again, thank you to those members who have helped throughout the entire process!

For those of you who are interested I'll do a quick update.

I lived with the inlaws for 6 months which was surprisingly nice, their house is big enough for two living zones which was very very very handy! I got a job within 72 hours doing what I was doing in the UK, I had emailed the company long before I left the UK just to say I was coming over and going to look for a job, they called the day I landed and I had an interview the day after. Some what jet lagged. I got the job! I was happy there.

We put an offer in on a house in September which was accepted, we then had to get a building and pest inspection done, which came back with all sorts of problems. The guy who did the test told us to steer well and truly clear of the house. So it was back to the drawing board, many house viewings and hours looking online. We stumbled upon a house, with pool, fairly large garden, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, double garage and room to extend. We fell in love with the place!! It was a little out of the budget but we put an offer in anyway. It was rejected. With a few calls backwards and forwards we finally get an it accepted! We moved into the house in October.... the same day our new sofa arrived!!! Lucky!

Both settled into the house very quickly and before we knew it, Christmas was here! I decided to fly back to the UK for 2 weeks to surprise everyone with great success!!

I decided to leave my job, there were no promotion opportunities so I handed my CV around and got a job within a day or 2. I've now been there 2 months and am currently foreman which is great.

Wedding planning all done so roll on October when both our families come to Australia to celebrate!!!!

    Cheers again people!!

  5. Just to reiterate a point that's already been made. If you came to QLD and go into the police force, chances are as you're a newbie you'd be sent to Mount Isa or the like. People with ties such as a home, children in school (not that that's stopped the police force in moving people) or married, will likely be placed in a more local station.

You won't get in on your brother and if they are after UK police officers then you're going to have to look else where. NT is a good call as are a few other states wanting Prison officers. Again that will depend on you passing relevant assessments and actually wanting to commit.

Have you been to Australia before, are you and your wife BOTH keen on moving? There are many factors in moving, not just the job!

  6. I just read this thread from start to finish and it thread reads like a joyous story!!

Congratulations on successfully navigating the immigration system

Cheers JonnoM - Just further proof you don't need an agent if the case is simple and it can be completed it a reasonably short time if you've prepared everything and do as you're told!!

  7. Hello everyone,

Firstly, I'm very sorry for my absence over the last few months had a lot going on, I have browsed to make sure everyone has been behaving..... I was in hospital over Christmas due to having fairly major surgery on my stomach, everything is fine now and I'm training again which is great. Eating chicken soup and yoghurt on Christmas day wasn't fun that's for sure! Back up to weight now and am fit as a fiddle!

Checking in to let everyone know that I leave on Monday, flight is leaving at 21:20, from then on in the next chapter starts and my fiancé and I can build a future together! It's all very exciting! Next things are getting a job, buying a car, building a house, get married and then who knows!!!

Just want to thank everyone on this forum who has helped point me in the right direction since last year and I shall always be eternally grateful!

  8. Hi Jack91,

Upload the results into SkillSelect with the rest of your documents. Hopefully you have uploaded all the docs so that CO can give you an instant Grant :)

I've not yet been allocated a CO as far as I know. I've just logged into my Immi Account and the health link has gone and says the medical has been completed! Ideal.

Thanks @Lady Rainicorn - Seemed to be talking to myself for most of it! Hopefully the next update will be a grant!!

  9. Medicals done yesterday. Will do a quick run through of procedures for anyone who is googling/reading the forum in search of information. Sit in waiting room, wait to be called in to a little room where you confirm all the information you've already given such as, passport number, age, address and telephone number. Pee pot is given to you and you can do that in your own time while you're waiting. Next you're called in to have the medical assessment. This consisted of having blood taken, blood pressure, which needs to be under 140 (mine wasn't the first time), weight and height. You're then asked to wait yet again to be called for X-rays, this takes a matter of seconds, whip t-shirt off and stand against the plate, you'll be asked to take a deep breath in and they'll X-ray you. They'll just check to see if it came out ok and if so you can go wait again. Shortly after that the Doctor will check your heart, lungs and for any lumps and bumps inside you. Just a general once over really. Few last bits of paper work to make sure all is in order, then you go and pay.

Mine was £307.80 - I have 1 tattoo but didn't warrant an HepB examination, which I think is £47?

Anyways - 7-10 days time it should be uploaded to my Immi Account if that's how it work? I don't have to do anything now I don't think? So all sorted, I play the waiting game like the rest of you!!!
