  1. Hi everyone. We've just bought our first apartment in Melbourne and are now looking to break the lease on our current place. so if anyone is looking for a very large apartment in the heart of East Richmond with fantastic views and very close trams, trains, South Yarra, walking distance to the MCG and other arenas, please let me know. Current rent is $600pw, available from 9th December and current lease runs until the 3rd May. Would suit someone new to the region who wants to live in the heart of popular Richmond and South Yarra but doesn't want to commit to the usual 12 months lease without knowing what it's like first Feel free to contact me for more details.
  2. Hi, We have been renting in Richmond, Melbourne, for 2.5 years and it is time for a clear out. We have a number of items which could be useful for those newly arrived or for others who would like a quick bargain. We can sell the brown two-seat sofa, mini white fridge, a selection of pictures and mirrors. We would be happy to sell these in one lot for $250.00. We also have some UK electrical items free for anyone who would like to collect them: UK dryer, UK beer fridge. Never needed to use them in Australia, but should work with a change in plug. Thanks
  3. Hi Everyone, My hubby and I are moving into our apartment in Richmond in a few weeks time. We are within easy reach of Richmond/South Yarra centres and would be really keen to meet up with anyone in these areas. We are both still looking for work opportunities so until then we are trying different ways to reach out and gain new friends etc. Many thanks Mrs A
  4. Hi I'm moving into my rental in Richmond on 4 May and really would be grateful to buy the following items if anyone is selling. Also willing to pay extra if delivery was possible as we don't have any transport as yet. Sofa Double bed and mattress Fridge freezer Small chest of drawers Small office desk and chair (not essential) If anyone close to Richmond would be selling these items please please let me know. Many thanks
  5. Hi everyone Thank you so much for your very kind and helpful replies. I'm trying to keep a positive outlook. I might try and walk to the bay today just to relax a little and try and enjoy the surroundings. All of your advice was so helpful. I will try and take this on board. many thanks
  6. Hi Everyone As I write this message I'm in tears. Is it normal one week in to possibly feel like this. I just really miss my family, friends, my home and all of the things I could easily do in the UK to cheer myself up after a bad day. I I knew it would be hard but I didn't think I would be so upset so soon.
  7. Hi All I don't know if it is just me but I'm really struggling to arrange any actual viewings for properties. I'm using sites such as domain and using links to email the agents to arrange a viewing etc. All that has happened so far is that I've emailed agents. Many have not even replied. The ones who have replied have advised the properties aren't booking viewings yet and the only property I actually managed to get a viewing for this morning has cancelled with two hours to go. Has anyone else experienced problems like this. Is there another way to do this. Should I work with an agent myself perhaps. I'm just concerned that our short term rental finishes in four weeks and it's just impossible to get viewings at the moment. I dread to think how bad things are once everyone is trying to secure the same property. I would be so grateful for any advice. Many thanks mrs a
  8. HiI'm just wondering if anyone knows where and if there is a place in Melbourne where you can buy tickets for the AFL games in person. Many thanks.
  9. Hi Everyone, We fly to Melbourne on the 1 April and I'm trying to get as much organised before we travel. I just have a quick query re: the TFNs. To apply for the TFN online you need to put an Australian address. We are unsure about putting our short term rental address for the TFN online as we are only staying there for 5 weeks so would we then have to arrange to change our address associated with the TFN with a tax office I think. Is this right? The alternative I think is to wait until we are in longer term accommodation (about six weeks after our arrival) to apply for our TFNs then, however I'm sure we won't be able to apply for jobs etc without this document. Any advice on what you guys did would be greatly appreciated as always. Many thanks and best wishes. Mrs A
  10. Hi everyone, I am keen to obtain an AUS vodaphone SIM before I leave the UK and fly to Melbourne so I can update my CV with my AUS mobile number and print a few CVs off in advance. I'm struggling to find a way to obtain an AUS SIM but I'm sure I've heard other people have done this. Vodaphone won't ship a SIM to the UK from AUS and other sites such as eBay which sell them say they need to be activated once inAUS so you have no way of knowing the mobile number until you get there. Does anyone know a way around this. I would be so grateful to hear how others have got around this issue. I'm really keen to print off a good few CVs and I've heard a few people say you must have one number on there. Thank you you for any help/suggestions. MrsA
  11. Hi EVeryone, my hubby and I are coming to Melbourne in April this year. I like walking in my spare time however I would say I'm at an amateur level. Does anyone know if there are any walking clubs to join in Melbourne. Many thanks mrsa
  12. Hi Everyone Can anyone in melbourne recommend recruitment agencies that you have found to be good in assisting you with finding work on arrival? Ive found a lot of agencies within the CBD of Melbourne but I wondered if there were sny that people found particularly good. Many thanks
  13. Hi. I am so keen to attend an event like this however I'm not due to get to Melbourne until beginning of April 2015. Will there be further events next year.
  14. Hi everyone my husband and I are hoping to come to Melbourne in early April 2015. Our visa is granted. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas if there woukd be some relevant work opportunities for me with a 2-1 BSc Honours Degree in Psychology. I wondered if anyone had a similar qualification and was able to gain some worn within this field in Australia or would I need to study additional qualifications over there. Im obviously keen to start at the bottom and work my way up however it was just to see if there were any opportunities with this qualification in this field. Many thanks andrea
