  1. Hi All,

    Finally after long agonising wait.

Today we've got our 489 visa approved.

I rang my CO and enquire about our status as July has come. And within 30 minutes, the case is finalised.

The lady was very helpful and courteous.

May you all get a speedy grant.

  2. 489 FS is family spknsored I assume? I think the number of invitation issued for family spons is only 30 every month. Better to try to apply for state sponsorship if you can..... it's an immediate invite when the state agrres to sponsor you (in my case at least)

The processing time normally is 3- 4 mth. But due to the quota, it's around 6 month nowadays

  3. Thanks for sharing Allan.

    icy/bid-to-keep-out-dentists-fails-in-visa-shakeup/story-fn59noo3-1226953823161

    From today's The Australian newspaper:

The Abbott government will slash the number of foreign accountants able to get permanent visas but local dentists have failed in a bid to impose new restrictions on their overseas counterparts working in Australia.

The government decision to cut the number of foreign accountants came after the Australian Workplace and Productivity Agency rejected a bid by the Department of Employment to have accountants removed from the Skilled Occupation List.

The agency recommends annually which occupations be added or *removed. Foreign workers whose occupation is on the list can apply for a permanent visa without requiring a sponsor.

Documents seen by The Weekend Australian show the department told the agency that its research showed “there continues to be a surplus of qualified accountants’’ in Australia. But the agency said the department’s was the only one of seven submissions it received that called for accountants to be removed from the list.

Among arguments in support of foreign accountants was that changes to taxation law and regulations would increase demand. “Pending repeals of the carbon tax and the mineral resources rent tax were cited as examples of initiatives which will drive further demand for accounting services, along with changes to superannuation laws,’’ the agency said.

Under the general skilled *migration program, professionals and other skilled migrants can enter Australia without being sponsored by an employer. While they have to nominate an occupation on the skilled occupation list, there is no obligation for them to work in that occupation.

The government has capped the program at 43,990 skilled visas next financial year. For each of the professions on the list, the number of positions available is capped at 6 per cent of the occupation’s workforce. After the agency agreed to *reduce the cap for accountants to 4.5 per cent, the Assistant Minister for Immigration, Michaelia Cash, said the government had decided to reduce the cap further to 3 per cent.

Senator Cash said the new *occupational ceiling would limit the number of accountancy places to about 5000 next financial year.

“Lowering this ceiling will not only ensure that the allocation of the program remains appropriate to Australia’s ... needs, but will safeguard other in-demand occupations ... from being crowded out from excessive *accountant applications,’’ she said.

The government has backed the agency’s recommendation to keep dentists on the list and maintain the cap at 6 per cent, meaning up to 942 foreign dentists will be able to obtain permanent visas next financial year. About 15,700 dental practitioners are employed in Australia, with non-citizens making up 15.2 per cent compared with an 11 per cent average across all professional occupations.

According to the agency, there has been a 41 per cent growth in dental employment over the past five years, with employment growth expected to rise 20 per cent over the next five years.

But the number of graduates employed full-time has fallen 20 per cent over the past years, including a 6.1 per cent fall between 2012-13.

=> If you are an Accountant and want to migrate to Australia, I suggest you secure an expedited skills assessment, and ensure you are claiming all the points you reasonably can if you are not going for a State sponsored skilled visa.

    Best regards.

  4. I guess as soon as they find a reason to reject they will do it right away instead of doing the whole checks and process.

I think if we have straightforward error, it can get decline letter in 1.5 mths as co allocated.

What's the last info from co? Mine said that my app is queueing for finalisation , but most probably after 1 jJuly.

  5. Can't help with the first question

But the second one, CPA needs a certified copy, so though I applied online, I still sent the documents by post..

You can still track your application online though you applied by paper. You will be gven an id by which you can access your case.

Indeed they took ages to reply email.

    Hello,

I am an accountant by profession. I'm certain that I will meet the Australian degree requirement and I have also achieved the required IELTS score. I was assuming to apply for skill assessment from CPA within next few days. But I have two questions before I apply:

    1. I have done a certificate via a distance learning body from Alison in Accounting Theory. Alison is an online body which caters students educational needs at no cost. All their certifications and diplomas have been given equivalency according to Ireland FETAC and UK NVQ level. However, they are not an accredited body. My question is will CPA consider the education and certificate that I have gained from Alison. Any suggestion or advice will be appreciated on it.

    2. I'm confused as to whether I should apply my skill assessment online or via post as I don't know if there's any significant difference between them. If I apply online, will that be any quicker? How will handover my educational documents to them if I apply online. Can I only track my application status online only if I have applied online?

I've also dropped this email to CPA but they are sluggish in replying emails. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  6. @Taffyowen

Your CO changed ? Our is from team 34 Brisbane, initials P.M. Our CO was so far very quick, and immediately answered to our e-mails. I have also attached FORM 1022 again to our online visa application, but I really could not attach BC and passport for the newborn to the application, because I do not know where to put those attachments. Now, we are all waiting...

    P.S.

Tried to e-mail my CO, got the response that my e-mail was forwarded to another e-mail, now I am too worried. [/quote

@Jupiter: they are changing the way they process visa application. Instead of assigning to one particular co, now they work in group of co. So your email is forwarded to a group email instead of to a particular co.

You need to have the co to add your newborn to your application. Only then you can get a hap id and upload the documents through immi online.

http://skillselect.govspace.gov.au/2013/04/26/i-am-seeking-state-or-territory-government-nomination/Generally, you will need to apply separately to the state to nominate you ( apart from filling in the eoi). Except for WA, they have different procedure....So you choose which state you want to apply to, but it's up to the state whether they will approve your nomination and nominate you...You can go to the following web above and check the procedure....

  8. Hi,

I hope someone can share their experience, or if not could you please just bump this thread up...

I'm wondering whether it is safe for a 7 year old to travel on the bus by himself. Is it safe, child friendly. I read that darwin council have dedicated school bus. How's your experience with that? Please kindly share

  10. Accounting bodies have similar criteria for positive skill assessment. So I don't think there is any use to try on other assessing bodies.

The suggested way is just take the one subject of accounting theory. The cpa website has the information on how to enrol.

    Hi All

have received a negative skill assessment letter (not academicallysuitable for migration under ANZSCO 221111-Accountant General), the reason isthe epic missing Accounting theory.

    Should I:

1- Seek re-assessment with other lenient assessing authority? Please suggestone.

2- Seek the help of an agent.

3- Take an online course for this Accounting theory. How andcost?

4- Quite the whole idea of going to OZ.

    Appreciate your help.

  11. I am abou to ask for nomination to NT. Do you know how long does they take to give an answer?Thank you very much.

Last December it took about 2 weeks for them to process the state sponsorship application. I don't know nowadays cause it can vary depending on how many invitations they got left. But I think you shud still try....

  12. That is very unusual, especially for high demanded profession.....

    Hi everyone

Is there anyone who has lodge a visa application in nov 2013?

My partner is registered nurse and the main applicant.

We have a agent and co and waiting, like most of you are.

    This is called mental torture:arghh:

  13. @portugue, 189 is faster because they still have availablequota. Limited quota is for 190 and 489....

Hi everyone. My case is very similar to what you all have been talking about lately. I applied for 190 visa, sponsored by WA state, on 4th February. Since then, I haven't got any contact from the case officer. So, I sent an email to know wich team was my application assigned to. They emailed me giving the department contacts in Adelaide. So I called and I was told that I had already a case officer allocated to my visa and that he woul only contact me if he needed some further information or documents. If not, I should wait until the deadline ( 3 months - which means until 4th May) and contact them again. They informed me that a visa can be granted directly... But I feel like its taking too long.

I have seen people getting a 189 visa (with 60 points - the same amount that I have) in a few weeks. The DIBP says on the website that visas 190 are in a 3rd group of priority, and visas 190 are in 4th group. In theory, it means that visa 190 is faster but in reality...it's not at all!

My case officer is team 6 Adelaide. Has anyone got a visa grant lately for 190 subclass? Has anyone been recently contacted from team 6 Adelaide?

Good luck to us all!! Amen.. lolol

  14. Latest news, for me at least, is that for 190 visas there is a capping, so I'll get the visa most probably next financial year; my file is decision ready (mail got from C/O), meaning that everything is OK, so I have no worries now, as I was planning to go in September anyway. So, I have to get everything ready, and I hope I'll get the visa before 15th of July :)

Is it so... well, most probably i also will have to wait till july....

I am not moving permanently this year, it's just that waiting makes me anxious...
