  1. Hi Craig I've been on the site and submitted an inquiry. I have a 2005 (Dec) BMW 520d se. 118k miles. The car was damaged and repaired a few years back (all front panels, bonnet, bumper, lights replaced) and there is now an ugly looking weld in the engine bay. It's passed the MOT every year no problem, so can't be dangerous (I think)! I'm worried that the weld may exclude me from passing the roadworthy test in oz. Any ideas? BTW, these cars are so common here now I'd be lucky to get £2,500 for it. They didn't sell them in Oz until 2007/8, so can't get an accurate price but the 2008's are going for upwards of $AUD 24,000
  2. I'm more worried about wether or not a removal from the SOL of Accountant occupations is a reflection of an over competitive job market. I'm also curious as to the possibility of the department simply stoping the issue of invites or visas to Accountant occupations now, based on whatever information has caused them to flag these occupations. As far as I can make out, this has already happened this year with some IT occupations.
  3. Hi Michala. did you submit EOI as an Accountant General?
  4. Well the EOI has just gone in regardless! We're back on the optimism train again :jiggy:
  5. Hi Alan Thanks for the reply I was just doing some research and it appears that this rumour has been going around since 2011. Accountants are on the list of "Flagged" occupations, but the list contains 50 flags all together, so It's not looking as ominous as it first seemed. Also, there appears to be a bit of mischief here from visa agents, they are the ones spinning this as impending doom, maybe to rush people into making that first payment for their services? Tut tut. Going back to the ceiling, Accountant General has over 9k as a limit, with only 4.5k issued. That would tell me there is still demand there. I'll get on with the EOI anyway, hope to be in Sydney for the summer ( oz winter)!
  6. Hi All Just came across this http://bit.ly/1e1QSy1 Basically it says the government is considering removing ALL accountants from the SOL, effective April / July 2014. As someone who's just today received a positive skills assessment from Chartered accountants Australia and really excited to be submitting an EOI, this is very worrying. Has anyone any idea if this could actually be in the pipeline? Do the Immi dept usually make these kind of changes across an entire profession? I'm surprised as accountants have one of the highest ceilings on the current list. We may have to reconsider our options. I'm worried now that we won't get an invite, and even if we do we may not get the visa. And if we get the visa, the jobs market may be under pressure, hence the removal from the SOL. Any way, It would be great to hear from anyone with insight into this, the reason for the removal, implications for EOI's lodged now etc. We're good to go, all documents ready, just the medicals to go. Any comments appreciated.
  7. Hi All, just had our skills assessment confirmed (yaaay!!) so about to file EOI. My wife is the main applicant, me and our son will be piggy-backing. I'd just like to double-check something. On the EOI there is a box for number of dependent, family members to be included. I assume this would be 2 for us. However, underneath this is a check box saying "will you be adding a partner to your application" So, should my wife's EOI have just one dependent (our son), then a "yes" in the tick box for adding a partner?
  8. Seems like we should Hogan, Verystormy made a great point. I suppose if I was looking at it as a potential employer I'd prefer someone with the 189 in place.
  9. Thanks Verystormy, good point on the 457 visa drawbacks. I'm starting to realise the size of the gamble now! It won't put us off though, we'll get the 189 and take it from there.
  10. I wouldn't mind too much blossom79, so long as they pay my wages! Would you mind if I ask, did you go through an agency or apply direct? Did the job advertise as willing to sponsor or did you apply first then discuss this later?
  11. Hi Adonna I probably wasn't really clear. We're going for the 189 visa but would prefer sponsorship because it would mean we had a job to go to and we'd also save the visa fee! I was just hoping for some feedback on the likelihood of finding work before getting to Sydney, either sponsored or with the 189 visa. We'd like to have at least one of us set up before packing up and leaving, starting to think this may be unrealistic.
  12. Hi All, I'm sure this is a common question but I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone with up to date experience or info. My wife and I are hopefully getting a 189 visa soon. She is a chartered accountant and has sent her skills assessment last week. She has done the IELTS Academic and should get 60 points all-in. I am an accounts technician, part qualified CIMA (completion this year) and qualified PMBOK Project Manager, specialising in project accounting in utilities. My wife works as an analyst in Financial services for a global securities bank. We have applied for jobs already, hoping to find somewhere that is willing to sponsor but have had little response. Can anyone advise on the likelihood of finding sponsorship or getting a job offer when/if our visa is awarded in either of our roles in Sydney? We are fearful of quitting our jobs here and moving only to be left unemployed. It would not be an issue but we have a six month old baby and don't want to have to slum it with him. If it was just the two of us, we've slummed it for years quite happily!! Sorry for the long post, any help much appreciated.
  13. Hi Russell I'll have a look into this. Many thanks for the reply! Happy New Year
  14. Hi all, hoping someone can help with a few work experience issues. I'm a chartered accountant, having trained full time in a practice for 3.5 years. I was hoping that my 3.5 years work experience, which is a component of the qualification, would count as work experience for my visa application. However, I have heard that only my work experience post qualification would be considered. Can anyone shed any light on this? Also, for the past four years, I have been working in Financial services as a Fund accountant, which isn't strictly the same thing as an accountant, which is what I will be applying as. Can anyone tell me if this will be a problem? I'm hoping someone her has encountered (and overcome) similar problems!
