  1. Hi Suzukiscottie, Thanks so much for the info, that's really interesting and useful to know, either way I think she will end up doing it twice and that's not a bad thing really. She will already have done her GCSE's at the end of year 11 so by the time we get to Australia (visas permitting) she will have to catch up and do year 11/12 so it should all work out. How did your kids adjust to the different school systems in Aus? Cheers, Connon
  2. Hi everyone, I hope you can give a little advise about the Australian Education system regarding my kids. My oldest daughter is 15 (16 this year) and finishes her GCSE's next June 2016. Our dilemma is due to the differing start dates in the Australian schools where does that leave her when she enters the school system in Australia? She will be joining nearly half way through their final HSE year I believe and I am not sure if she would have to either go back a year or stay and try to sit the HSC's in their year time table. We also have a 9 year old daughter going up to year 6 next year when we move, (if we stay for our oldest's GCSE's) and again would she have to repeat year 5 or carry on with their year 6? Any advise would be much appreciated as we are very unsure about the nitty gritty of the school systems in Aus. Thanks in advance, Connon
  3. Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone could help, am I being thick or are the visa's 820/801 and 300/309 subclass 100 the same visa other than the first is onshore and the second is offshore? The reason for this is my visa application which I have started has all the numbers across the top and it's really throwing me. Also my partner who is entering Australia under my nationality (eligible New Zealander) is unsure whether it's worth waiting for the backlog in this county (up to 12 months) or just move to Australia and apply there, if this was the case does anyone have any advise which temp visa this should be done on? Other than the increased cost to lodge onshore does anybody know of any potential downsides to this route? We have no issue with waiting for visas but we have two school age children we are mindful of their school term times. Many thanks for any information, Cheers, Connon
  4. Hi everyone, Strange question but we have three Jet ski's , and due to the better weather in Australia we will obviously get more use out of them. As we own them we are loath to sell and buy new when we get to Aussie. Does anyone know whilst they are not a vehicle as such do they come with import duty like a car? Do they need to be owned for a specific amount of time? Or are there any other restrictions on them? Cheers

Many thanks for you advice we have contacted an agent to gain advice on which visa is the best one and are realising that the best way to go is to get a permanent visa as opposed to a temporary one, many thanks for your comment.

That sounds awful, thank you for the comment I will most definitely take your advice and look at a Permanent visa as opposed to a temporary one, we have contacted a MARA approved agent as per your advice and are awaiting a reply as to which is the best visa, many thanks for your advice.

Not sure either to be fair, as a kiwi I never had to worry about visa thing, apparently I am an eligible kiwi(whatever that means) as far as the govt is concerned and that was the quickest visa we went for with the least dramas if I remember rightly! What is the difference??

Hi there sorry about the delay, the passport has been found, the mrs went over on a 461 visa?? the visa was fine its just the medi-care issue she was concerned about, its no drama to get health insurance in the interim prior to citizenship but just doing some due diligence. also due to circumstances for leaving (family tragedy) would she be able to get it re-instated?? cheers
  9. could I have a rough guide to bring it over? we are looking at putting it in a 40ft and packing around it as opposed to RORO. have moved lots of times but never with a vehicle, I realise how greedy the Aussie government can be over most things

Hi pumpkin, sorry im probably sounding like a real numpty, i have never had to worry regarding visas so am not ofee with the types... all i know is that i was considered an "honarary Kiwi" by the aussie govt, not really sure the difference?? all I do know is that i can live in both countries with full rights in both with no restrictions (or so I was told when I applied for the childrens NZ citizenship). I dont have an aussie passport or citizenship, but all i remember is that she could live in aus with no problems yet couldnt get medicare?? the mrs is trying to find her old passport as we speak, will post the visa catagory when we have it

she has permanent NZ residency (probably expired by now), but takes 5 years to attain citizenship- to prevent back door action so to speak...

we were there in 99, had our daughter, but her temp visa was finished ( we had to return due to that) we went for a year as a taster for her before we made the move, she got pregnant (as you do) whilst on the taster year. we then came back, started the process to emigrate and then the story above kicked in when in aus... apologies on the complicated story, we were in aus in 2006 had a house etc then had to return 2007 due to tragedy
