  1. yes it's on the CSOL list. Obviously if I was going straight to Brisbane I obviously would have to wait till the visa was granted. Just worried this way something might go wrong for some reason.
  2. I will be travelling alone. It was in terms to immigration. I will be working with somebody I know and he said that he thought it would make it easier to get the visa if I was already working for the company. Suppose I'm just worried that I agree to go out there and then when it come to apply for the 457 visa it gets rejected. I don't think they have took on people since the new changes last July that have made the 457 more difficult to obtain. I might just be worrying about nothing and there will be no problem at all, just fearing the worst.
  3. a company that could possibly sponsor me on a 457 visa have asked if I would like to first work in their office in the Philippines for 12 months before moving onto Brisbane. I know the 457 visas are now harder to attain so would working with the company already in the Philippines make it easier to get the visa? Just to note they have sponsored people on 457s in the past. Thanks in advance.
  4. I just checked that site and did a quote, for just me, 31 year old, it comes up with 13 quotes from $21.07 up to $64.95 per week.
  5. Yes I'm a british passport holder. So you don't pay any Private Health Care now you use Medicare, I thought you had to have some under the 457?? And is the Medicare now costing you a fee then or is it just the 1% or so they take from your wage, sure I saw that somewhere else.
  6. So if I am to come over on a 457 visa, how much will it cost me per month?? By looking at some sites its looking like it could cost me up to $216 a month??? My cousin who has lived in Sydney for last 20 years says she pays around $80 a month. Now I know it depends on the person and there is different category's to choose from, but for those already on a 457 visa how much are you paying?? I would like to just see an average from a few people. So I want a rough monthly figure that I know will be enough to put on my spreadsheet of costs. Will $100 a month be enough, or will it have to be at least $150 or even over $200 as I've seen??? By the way, I have no medical problems or illness, just very slight asthma. Thanks
  7. I'm currently looking at all this also, I'm from Bolton and due to the big difference in cost for rent or buying property in Oz, health cover which is looking quite dear, the cost of things in shops, and cost of a night out, I have used 2.5. Can rent a nice 3 bed house in outskirts of Bolton for £600 month, this for instance needs x2.5 to even start getting close to rent for a month for same type of house in outskirts of Brisbane, upwards of $1600 at least. I've noted everything down and hoping to clear at least $6k instead of £2.5k back at home.
  8. oh thank you, well that's definitely good to hear.
  9. http://www.paycalculator.com.au Sorry if this has been covered somewhere already. I am trying to get a rough idea of net wage if I was to come over on a 457 visa. Is the website above quite accurate and up to date, do I need to take anything else into consideration? One thing I have noticed is the option to tick non resident, and if you do your monthly net income dramatically reduces. If I am a uk resident and coming over on a 457 visa do I tick this non resident option? Thanks in advance
  10. anybody any idea on how long an occupation will stay on a state list? anywhere to check how quickly positions are being filled?
  11. Thanks, only a few jobs on seek.com but only the top 2/3 with a salary actually showing, these were $70-$85k so that sounds ok My problem is I work in the steel Industry and my job has only come up on the state sponsored list for Canberra, and when I have searched for Steel fabrication firms there really doesn't seem to be any there that would accompany my role exactly. I work on 3d cad. So its a question of do I get myself through the door and find a job doing anything I can and have to wait for the 2 years before I can move somewhere where there is better opportunites. I've done this job since I was 16 and I'm now 30 so I've never done any other type of work since. I am actually travelling to Oz in December for a holiday to check places out properly, so I am wondering whether I should put this application on hold till I get back in January. But maybe they will take my occupation back of the list. I don't suppose anybody knows the chances of that actually happening do they, it only came on the list at the start of this month. Is there a chance it could go off in the next 3 months?
  12. I am thinking of ringing a few companies in Oz to see if they will give me a rough figure on the wage I would get over there for the job I do. I'm guessing they maybe reluctant to give this information out to a stranger from another country? I have a state sponsored visa ready to go but before I hit the green light and pay my £6k overall to get to Oz in 9/12 months I really want to know I will be paid a decent enough wage over there. I earn lets say on average £33k plus overtime and have been told roughly a wage of $70k would be expected. If we are still going off the 2.2 to 2.6 ratio that would be either $72.6k or $85.8k. Is this cost of living exchange rate still about right, the last posts I read with these figures were from last year. Thanks in advance
