Thanks do you know of any companies I can use for the shipping carton?
-
I got a duffel bag with clothes I want to send back to the UK. Doesn't matter how long it takes to get their cheaper the better, whats my best choice, the AU post office?
-
it may sound scary at first when your planning everything but you will be fine, millions of people are doing the same thing you are. You will be fine.
Not sure what advice to give other than enjoy your self, and dont worry about it (kind of hard now i know)
-
yeah I may leave next month, saved a bit of money, time to start enjoying myeslf even more than working on a farm
-
money crop here will move your money from UK account Oz with no fees or something, check this site it will tell you what you need to know.
I just take a credit card instead of carrying cash.
-
not used them but it makes sense to use every avenue you have open too you.
-
yes you can leave and come back

thanks mate, maybe this is in the wrong section? If I apply for a tourist visa on the last day of my WHV, do I get put on a bridging visa in the mean time?
-
Hi after my WHV, I want to stay for another 2weeks as a holiday, a few friends will be dropping in. Then I will leave with them.
After my WHV visa finishes, can I apply for any other type of visa to cover me for the 2 weeks without having to leave Oz?
thanks

refer to harvest guide, buy a car, and hit the towns suggested is your best bet currently
-
loads of people will be there that time, you wont have trouble meeting people

gumtree is a great place to ask if you cant find anyone, in the community section
-
yeah you can do it online, you could prob do it from home now, but you need to give the an Oz house address because they send you your TFN via that
-
yes correct, apply online the same way you did before
-
yes you can, just be sure to have all the paperwork before you go as proof.
rent forms, payslips, 1263form, bank statements etc
-
maybe check out some WWOOFING or other places were you can work without paying board. Last thing you want to do is run out of money in 1-2 months.
Least you have your CC as a back up, now untill you leave id try and save up as much money as you can.

From what I hear myself in Oz and on these forums I have formed my own opinion on them.
I dont think you can make great money at any of them compared to working for a contractor/farm. The business model of the hostel is to make you spend all the money you earned back into the hostel. Kind of like a never ending cycle.
As for how the hostels are, many of them are well run and people have a lot of fun there. So the experience is going to be good, but unlocking your 88 days and making money, hmm maybe not so good, as I dont think you will be working 5-6 days a week, maybe 1-3. So what was a 3 month stay now becomes 5-6months

no regional work that qualify for your visa in the Gold coast. Darwin mainly grows bananas ( I could be wrong), and just because there is work now.
Regional work is seasonal, just because there is work now in Darwin, doesn't mean come August there will be work.

Is a tour worth it? well it depends, if you dont mind paying a lot more for someone doing all the hard work for you, then yes it is worth it for you. But if you want to save money, do it yourself, all the info is on the internet, and stay in hostels for the short term if you have concerns about traveling alone.
-
same with pumpkins, you will get used to it after a few days. Just eat well and rest well

if you wan to stay in the big cities, then public transportation is going to be enough and fly from one city to another.
if you want to travel to smaller towns and cities, do farm work and check out rural OZ, 100% buy a car, it will work out cheaper in the long run.
-
well the hostels dont want you to work 5-7 times a week because then you have enough money to leave and see the big cities. Rather you work 2-3 a week and spend all your money at there hostel.
As for being employed for 8 weeks, tell them you have your 2nd WHV and you will stay long term, then leave after 8 weeks saying family emergency . Its not a nice thing to do, but its always an option.
-
where are you working at the moment?what are you picking and are other backpackers in the same situation?
-
its actually kind of quiet around QLD for now, my guess is that it will be picking up shortly (1-2 months). I know just north of Brisbane there are strawberry planting jobs going, pay is not the best though.
Best way to ship a bag back to the UK
