  1. Hi @Bungo, many thanks for the reply and I found the upgraded comment on another users comments of what happened to them and wondered if this was standard practice, however clearly not. I forgot to mention in my original post that we applied for the 190 visa at the same time due to only having 55 points however have still not heard anything. Nick Hi @benthomas010, many thanks for the reply and whilst waiting for the 190 we are going to retake the test. NIck
  2. Hi All We are hoping to emigrate on a 189 visa later this year and submitted our EOi 4 weeks ago. However, we only have 55 points and are yet to hear anything. I have looked at a few posts where it would seem points are upgraded to 60 although don't know if this is the same for all. We are looking to move to Perth using my wife's qualifications as a social worker which have been passed accordingly. We lost points due to my wife's English results being half a point down on the written test. So with the above in mind do we; a) Wait and see if they upgrade us to the required 60 points? b) re-take the English test? If we wait any idea how long? Thanks in advance Nick
  3. With regards to IELTS. I am a social worker hoping to get 189. Should I go for the general test or the academic one?
  4. Forget London and move to sunny Brighton, we have lots of Bars, Restaurants and Boutique shopping, great nighlife along with some fantastic history and you'd only be a short 50 minute train ride from central London. There are some fantastic places to live with rents around the £1000 pm mark very close to the sea pushing to £1300+ for 3 bed and then if you live say 20 minute walk from the centre you can pick up a three bed house for £1200 ish pm. We have lived here for nearly 20 years and whilst originally lived right in the centre have slowly moved out to the outskirts, however are still only a 25 minute ish walk away from the centre and will very regular and reliable public transport it's a doddle. Feel free to pm me if you want more info and a good place to start for property rental is www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/Brighton/

  7. Hi All Many thanks for the responses so far, they have helped a great deal. My wife has checked out a couple of the recommended links and has established what information she needs to gather. So onwards and upwards and let's get this party started. Regards Nick
  8. Hi All We are just starting out on the process of moving lock, stock and barrel to Australia and are looking for a bit of advice. My wife is a qualified social worker in child protection and currently a practice manager in the UK. I have spoken to Global Visas and they ran through their points system and said that we qualify under my wife's job and we scored 65 points. However, I have since read that this may not be the best company to go with and that their points system has no bearing on an application, hence the reason we need a bit of honest advice. So here are our questions. 1. Is it best to go through an immigration agent to obtain our visa's, (2 x adult 38 & 39, 3 x children) if not which visa do we apply for and how do we go about it? 2. We are looking at either Perth or Brisbane so looking for recommendations on family orientated areas. I appreciate there are many more questions that will come up, however wanted to make the start. Oh and we are looking to make the move in July 2015 as our eldest finishes his GCSE's. Thanks in advance. Nick, Clare and Family (not forgetting the dog).
