  1. (Re posted from Perth Poms) Hi all, new to the forum, after 8 years of talking about it, tons of research and recommendations we have decided to set about moving to Western Australia. I am going to use future skills for the assessment in the uk to get the otsr and white card. Done the English test and got top marks but I am concerned about what's involved in the practical test of the skills assessment. I am an electrical engineer in the uk and work in industry on control systems, Plc's, software programming and inverters etc. in Australia I'm classed as an electrical technician but was advised that the special class electrician would be the route to take as its on the sol list and a lot of it is what I do. Looking at the description it covers domestic and industrial. As it been a lot of years since I tested a domestic installation I was hoping to find someone that has done the same and give a heads up on what's involved on the special class assessment.
  2. Great to hear from you. Sorry it's not been that great, I hope it turns around for you! We are a long way off yet but still want to make a go of it. Just hope we can make it happen
  3. My hubby is a technician too we were looking at technician or special class. He's industrial not domestic and there's not much info for industrial or I can't seem to find it? How did you get on?
  4. Thanks so much Cal really appreciate it! We are Perth bound on a 189 will live in a tent if we have too ha ha. No seriously thanks a lot and I've got some reading up to do.
  5. Hi just wanted to ask if anyone in this trade has been able to find work on a supervised license. Were just at the start of the process and getting a lot of doom and gloom with guys trying to get supervised jobs so they can work towards their license. If anyone has any experience it would've great to hear from you? Thanks
  6. Hay Phillipeno how's it been going? Have you secured work yet? It's so difficult to get sorted out. They want electrical workers but not prepared to help out in the first place it's a vicious circle. Everyone says it's worth it in the end it's just the persevering with it in the first place. My OH is industrial so I just hope he can find work too when we get to Perth
  7. Thanks very much. Getting TRA assessment then possibly sitting the VETASSESS assessment in London we were just trying to find out if there are any ways around getting his licence quicker. We are going to WA but are willing to try another state if it's quicker then changing it over to WA just ideas at the moment. Just worried about not being able to earn money with 3 kids to look after that's all. It's daunting but nothing's easy in this life ay?
  8. HI Does anyone know much about this? through trawling the internet looking for ways for my husband to get his electrical license asap so he can work, it looks like we will need to get this ARTC. What im asking is does anyone know if you can apply for it from the UK before you get there or is it something that must be done as a resident? Thanks
  9. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows the difference between an Electrician General and Electrician Special Class. I'm struggling to find the information out. the SOL code is Electrician (Special Class) 341112 Thanks in advance
  10. Thanks all. Looking at it we will need the points so I'll get the GCSE books out lol and make him do some homework. I've got some samples of what the tests are so he knows what to expect. Cheers everyone :0)
  11. I may be a complete idiot here but will we need to do the IELTS I thought if you were British and first language English, you didn't need to do it? Were applying for a 189 visa
  12. If this is still current? I'd email both organisations with your question. They usually get back to you and are helpful! I've had similar with engineer Australia and TRA
  13. Hay im just completing my husbands assessment to send in. Just wondered if anyone else is at the same point and what you're applying for. We're electrical technician 321321 Wonder how long it will take once it's sent off! Do you think it would be worthwhile sending his CV with it as he has such a lot of work history/experience and the actual application form is quite basic and covers a broad spectrum.
  14. THis all sounds good. Were from Sheffield and hopefully heading to Perth. Not sent it in yet just dealing with TRA. Im doing everthing myself its all such a minefield! Hope it all goes well for everyone and let me know of your progress as im a couple of steps behind. Just on the back foot, anyone watching Phil Spencer? The housing market in WA is on fire hope theres enough jobs to go round to pay for them eh? :0)
  15. Yes it may be an option or even meet him in singapore or something? Its just trying to do it keeping costs down as its such a huge expense in the first place. We will have to see how it goes. Thanks for opinions anyway. It does help to hear how others have done a similar thing. As far as selling the house goes, we'll have to sell or it wont happen and it will all have been a major headache. Im optomistic though and others are selling well in our area. We'll make it im certain of it! x
