Hello well this is my story so far. Me (carpenter) 32 my wife (hair dresser) 28 and two children aged 2 & 5 from Essex U.K visited the gold coast for near on a month in may. We fell in love not just with the goldy but Australia and Australians. We did alot of exploring to make sure if the move was the right thing to do and hooked up with a few friends too. When we returned we talked it over to make sure we both wanted to do this. So, we found an agent and i sat my ielts and passed first time. After that i gathered all my paper work and sent it off to my agent. waited a few months and agent call to say ive passed the first part of vetasses then a few weeks ago i took my vetasses carpentry test and passed that so now we are just waiting for a reply from our EOI. So fingers crossed. In the mean time im hunting the internet at jobs and where to live,so far sunshine coast, noosa,gold coast and north NSW are our main parts to relocate to..... ....... stay tuned for more........ And any tips and help would be very much taken onboard.

Just searching the net for nice locations to raise a family and have a nice crimefree life. But the more i read it doesnt seem possable. Gangs,bashings,drugs. Wheres nice guys?????

2500 for visa ielts vetasses and agent fees. blimey that is good. mine is gonna be 8000.

Hi all, so i have my Carpentry test tomorrow and am a little bit nervous, im not good at being watched. Any words of wisdom or ideas of how the day really pans out,and if anyone has failed.

Brilliant news.Im a chippy too,and me and my family are moving over next year. And i do worry about work, so any advise or just become new friends would be great. we are moving anywhere in goldy bris or sunshine where ever there is work really. I have been a carpenter for 16-17 years and have the best references. Im 32 from essex

Hi all. I have my carpentry vetasses this month,so im reading up on the latest health n safety. my question is... When it comes to hipped roof and gable im guessing there will be plans with the degrees or should i bring my construction calcuator to work it all out? Just a little uncertain of the whole day? Dont know why im worrying? Ive been a chippy for 17years lol

we struggle and do what we have to do. im full time 9hrs a day and wife is part time due to the kids. it is bloody hard and not getting easier.

if its sooooooo great why dont you enjoy ur time in the uk rather than gripe about oz???? very strange sitting behind a keyboard muttering about how great uk is.... very weird.

well froms what ive been reading in oz papers and houseing markets it looks like Aus in certain places is picking itself back up. job sites seem to advertise more work for tradies too. so thing are moving yes?

Anyone eles having agent problems. mislayed files,forgotten photos, So far im over a month behind.

Have you tryed the east coast? Here there plenty there.

Hello. Thankyou for the advise. I have passed my ielts got all my docs sorted and first part of vetasses has been sent off and should have a test date next week. after test i will then send my EOI. As a family we came bk from qld in may after a month long reccy.half the people were saying its slowed down and the other half were saying (quote) theres a ton of work youll do good as a traidie plenty of work. ??

Thanks for the reply. Yes we (me wife and 2 small children) Are willing to make the move and hope to better our lifes down under. But all the talk of lack of work scares me silly. I have never been out of work in all my 17 years and i worry that i could balls this up.

So ive started this long expensive prosses they call the 189 visa. But im confused about the move? I have been reading that there is no jobs,unemployment is high a ressesion is on the cards and 2014 is looking bleek. On the other hand uk is picking itself up. Am i mad to sell up and move and use savings to fund this. Im a carpenter looking to head to QLD.

Hey all you luvvaly folks just a quicky. I was just pondering about work and how much carpenters get paid on the east coast? I am very happy in my line of work and being a carpenter is the tops for me. just wondering thats all. Trying to work out finances and stuff. cheers guys.

You're not wrong. im still going to struggle alone with it and let my house sale pay for it. Bit hard to swollow tho.

Its gone up for my main visa my wife and 2 small.children. loads of bollox. gonna cost about 7-8grand. was only 3k when first looked into it begin of year.

So as of 1st september its going to cost even more for a visa. they hiked it up 1st july and now again. . I might have to pull out of this visa nonsence as its becoming soooo costly. . maybe ill jump on a boat and see how that goes. . Dreams turn to knightmares.

I was thinking about joining next year. is there much difference in paper work compared to uk bobby work?

How long do you have to validate a visa? And can you only do it in oz?

Hello all, Im kinda new to poms,and am enjoying all the threads ive read. Me and my family are moving to south Queensland/north NSW next year,and i hope to get work in the carpentry building game. Feel free to come follow my twitter and help spread the word of my work As a family we done a reccie trip in may to Burleigh heads,and found that the east coast is just what we are looking for, kindsa like our life here but with beaches close by and nice weather. We really enjoyed the social side of Aus what with the little pubs and farmer markets and happenings in the parks,the children loved it. We are applying for a 189 visa. i passed my IELTS first time and have just applied for the vetasses. so its moving alone quite well. well thanks for reading and any comments about the east coast would be good.
