Hi guy's im a carpenter who moved out to perth about 5 weeks ago now. Ive just set an ABN up and wondered if someone can give me advise on how it all works and best ways to run things. Do I need a separate buissness bank account and pay myself a wage etc. Havent got a clue what im doing. Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers mark

Thanks everyone for your advise. Ive managed to get 2 weeks work doing a music studio up and the guy that owns it has contacts in the trade so hopefully things might be on the up. (Fingers crossed) just need my tax file number now. Its 28 days tomorrow since I applied so looks like im going to have to ring them up to sort it. Looks like im going to just take each week as it comes and apply for permanent jobs at same time. As long as the dollars are coming in im happy.

Still no luck guys. Going to try having my cv and cover letter rewritten by a pro and see if that help.

Yeh I have applied for jobs outside the building industry but they all need certain certificate s for each one. Ive just got my wa driving licence. So I will have a look at driving jobs. I will do anything for the time being until a carpentry job comes up

Hi there, im a 36 year old carpenter and moved out to perth (rockinham area) 4 weeks ago with my wife and 3 children and just cant find work. All the new build is tied up by the aussies and they keep it for themselves. Ive applied for job after job without success and money is now starting to get low , so im getting worried big time.
