  1. Good to know someone with a similar background is going! how old are you if you don't mind me asking? Also any idea where / when you are booking your flights? still trying to find the best deals!
  2. From what I have heard they only really show an interest in your finances if you are on a one-way ticket I am going to try aim for £1,000 a month (maximum of £6,000 to cover my self for 6 months) and hope that I get a job before that haha Although with a law degree and only really office experience i'm not sure how easy that will be for me!
  3. Yeah you are right, you would have to pay a fee for direct flights as well. I don't think I would book direct with the airlines, would either be return with sta travel or one-way's with skyscanner Main reason I am in two-minds over return ort2 one-ways for roughly 550-600 each (having that flexibility to do two years) or book the Emirates flights for 910ish + 60 multiflex and then whatever they chuck on for the dates When I have looked at reviews for multiflex seems a bit of a faff to get in contact with them I have been phoning up loads of people at work e.g. trail finders, flight centre, another branch of sta travel - to find out their offers and any cheeky ways to get a bargain but nada! When you planning on booking?
  4. Oh that does sound good! Im 24, I had September down but tempted to look at other months now. I think I am more drawn towards one way flights now as according to someone at STA travel multiflex only waives the airline fee (which isn't exactly loads) you see would have to pay the difference in tax etc (which is most the flight!)
  5. Yeah looked on all the usual suspects i.e. skyscanner, and all the other comparison ones I think I am just being fussy with the airlines... and kinda wanna stop off somewhere on the way to break up the flights... or for at least a shower! haha I managed to find a return flight with Emirates for about 920 + the multiflex option, but I'm in two minds about booking a single flight in case I decide I want to do the 2nd year (and / or go travel through Asia) ... Return flights only give you 12 months scope blah rant over! lol
  6. Had my STA Travel appointment and the woman was 30 minutes late and really unhelpful...... really struggling to find decent flights!
  7. Sounds like you had a good time! A few years ago (mainly before I went to uni) I kept getting temptations to go to Aus, but never bothered... but I think it was about Wednesday when I was staring at my computer at work thinking fml. Now suddenly i'm booking flights on my own! I just hope I manage to make some sort of drinking buddies or I will be a serious loner haha.
  8. Haha the dreaded wisdom teeth! Luckily enough mine seem to be growing alright so far (I've recently turned 24) I did law at Uni and it took me almost a year to get something half decent money-wise, but can't stand how serious it all is... so going to trade it all in for fruit picking! lol Keep in touch, would be good to know how your 5 months or so have gone before mine starts! My cousin from near Brisbane is already trying to make me go to a one direction concert in Sydney... so I defo think i'll be running off on my own sooner rather than later!
  9. Sounds like a plan! you going for hostels? I really wanted to go sooner than September but I kinda need to stay at work for a bit longer for spending money / the sake of my poor CV lol. How much money are you planning on taking?
  10. I am planning on going end of September, the only plans I have as of yet is to stay with my family near Brisbane and then travel down to Sydney stopped off at places along the way... trying to get temp work in the process! Kinda hope I meet people on the way too What about you?
  11. I think most airlines change the date for about £40, but I probably will get the multiflex thingy just to have he extra 2 in case I change my mind a few times!
  12. Applied for my visa after my last post and it was approved instantly... now I really am bricking it lol I was meant to do it last year with a friend, but they wouldn't save up and eventually got a full time job they had no intentions of leaving. So it was either go on my own or not at all! I think if I didn't have family in Aus to fall back on if I hated it on my own then I wouldn't have had the guts to book How old are you if you don't mind me asking?
  13. Hey i'm also looking to book for end of Sept, but flying to Brisbane as got family living near there. Hoping to venture around on my own after a few weeks / month and hopefully done to Sydney for NYE. Is anyone else freaked out about the whole idea of going alone/ leaving everyone behind?
  14. Hey! I am applying for a WHV also, aiming to go out in September. I will be staying with family in Sunshine Coast for a while then eventually setting off to hostels around other parts of Australia. I have an appointment with someone at STA Travel tomorrow - how did you find them? The reputation I have heard in the past is that they are expensive in relation to other places, although as far as quotes go they seem pretty reasonable. Have you thought about doing a stopover on the way there for a day or two? Also have you looked into sim cards? I was looking around for a similar thing to sim only 30day contracts but baffled tbh! Pretty nervous about the whole travelling alone thingy, hope I don't chicken out!
