  1. Hi, looking into migrating for the forth time in my life! Failed before due to lack of experience, changing requirements, job offer for partner being retracted etc. i am a Primary school teacher (39), who qualified in 2001 (4 year teaching degree). I have had short amounts of time off on maternity leave and not all my working years have been full time. Does it matter how many hours a week you do to count towards your experience? My contracted hours are currently 17.5 hrs per week. i have a skills assessment that has expired, but I guess that the details they use are the same, So shouldn't be a problem to renew. I also got overall 8.5 on ielts test (just expired). Any one had experience of this? Would I qualify for either a 189 or 190 visa? WA looking for primary teachers. is it cheaper to be state sponsored? Sorry for all the questions. Want to get it right this time and be out there by this time next year! thanks
  2. I would have done the same after only three months!!!lol:biggrin:
  3. Yes was a Mara agent. Asked why I was refused and got a long detailed email back, which basically said that my degree didn't have a section purely based on early years! Experience counts for nothing in the skills assessment. Wish they had been clearer in their description of qualifications needed. Anyway they said I qualified for an approved skills check back in 2007 as a primary school teacher and could apply again for this area. I responded to this by saying 'you have all my details, send me a successful letter'. Needless to say I didn't get a response to that yet, but here's fingers crossed.
  4. After 3 months of waiting to have my skills assessed I have had my application under Early Childhood teaching refused as my degree was in Primary school teaching. Here in the UK to teach at a school based Nursery or at a pre-school I would need the same degree that I have (a B-Ed). All of my working life I have taught Reception children who have a different curriculum to older children in primary school, and this is where I thought I fitted all of the criteria as they did not state anywhere what type of degree it should be. It looks like experience counts for nothing (6 years) and they are dead set on the degree title although my teaching degree is in lower primary! Feel as my time and money has been wasted due to their lack of clarity. I am doing the visa independently, but sort advice from an agent who said that was the area on the SOL to do! I could wait another 3 months and apply again for Western Australia under Primary School teacher, but feel drained emotionally and financially. What doesn't help is that you can't appeal. Has anyone experienced this? I have emailed them to state my case, but don't feel it will get me anywhere. Sorry for the rant...constantly coming up against brick walls.
  5. Willing to move to any state where there is work. Perth is top of the list.
  6. Thanks for a balanced view everyone. As the main visa applicant do I have to work?
  7. My wife is the main applicant for our visa (Primary School Teacher), but I'm also looking for employment, hopefully when we get there. Does anyone know the state of the market for employing an Architectural Technician with 25 years experience? Are there any hotspots for employment? Thanks.
  8. Do you have to produce further paperwork, or I've heard before prove yourself before you teach in OZ. Or can you just turn up, apply, get a job and start? Sorry, so many questions.
  9. Thank you for your replies. We are not dead set on any state, but don't want to lose all the money involved in visas and plane fares, if there is no work and therefore future for us in OZ. I have three children aged 8 and under, what would be the best time of year to move in regards to schooling? December/January?
  10. Hi I need some help please. I am in the process of gathering the paperwork needed to apply for the EOI, I have sat my IELTS and have another month before I get my skills assessment back (which were approved 5 years ago) for the same position of Pre-primary/early childhood teacher which is on the SOL list and in demand for most states. When can I apply for jobs? Can I apply when waiting for my visa? Do I have to be in OZ first? Also can my husband work instead of me even though I am the main visa applicant? Thank you in advance for any replies.
  11. Hi Nic, I Just got 8.5 overall on ielts but got 7.5 in writing and need an 8 in every area for the points so I have asked for a remark as lots of other forums on other sites people had said quite often marks are upgraded. Thought it was worth a try for £60 which is reimbursed if regraded. This has to be requested within six weeks, just wondered if this was worth a shot in your case too.
  12. Hi, very helpful thank you as now weighing up if we can afford to move to OZ or not. I am a teacher and would be the the main visa applicant and would move with my husband and three children aged 7, 5 and 3. Do you get any family allowances/money if you move on a permanent visa? If so how much per month. Thanks.
