  1. Good afternoon. I'm currently living in Perth and my WHV is due up in a couple of months. I'm planning on doing a little travelling across Australia and some of SE Asia on my way back home. I was going to send a box with some of the stuff that I don't need back to my parents in the UK, not a lot of stuff but things like my laptop and some clothes etc. Will all fit in a fairly small box, anybody got any idea who to use or how much something like that will cost please? Thanks
  2. Morning all, If anybody is looking at trying to get fit for the summer there are a range of different fitclubs/bootcamps/running clubs that I'm involved in throughout Perth. Range of different times and days as well to try and cater for as many people as possible. Complete novices who are embarking on their first exercise regimes to fitness fanatics welcome. All arranged through Herbalife as part of a fit and active lifestyle plan. $5 per session and you get a recovery shake at the end of the session plus a great way to meet new people with similar interests (and accents!!) in Perth Worley
  3. I am currently living in Perth and it has been the hottest summer on record according to announcements today. Definitely a bit of a shock to the system but as long as you are not stupid, sunbathing etc making sure that you have a had and plenty of fluids then it's OK. I've got a mate from the UK who has moved to Melbourne specifically because the weather is more 'European'. You do get some hot days that will be uncomfortable but it tends to be a little colder with quite a bit more rain and cloud cover than WA. The links above though give a good overview
  4. First of all I have trawled through a lot of the threads and the stickies and can't see a response suitable to my situation, so I'm hopeful that a few of you guys with more knowledge may be able to help me. I have recently moved to Perth and been here for just over 3 weeks. I now have a sales job which, whilst not counting my chickens before they hatch, should enable me to earn quite good money for up to 6 months. I am on a working holiday visa and as I am 31 and about to turn 32 I will not be able to do regional work to get my extension (too old). I want to make a life out here and stay for as long as possible, many reasons but weather, lifestyle, wages, friendliness of the locals, wildlife etc etc. What would be the best ways to try and get either an extension to my visa,or more likely a change to my visa class or sponsorship to stay out here. I have no trade, and my recent jobs have been as a senior administrator for an Aerospace company and a private investment bank as well as 6+ years of sales experience. Administrators out here amongst the Australian population are numerous so this is obviously not an avenue that I can pursue. I did complete two years of my degree but not the final year and have a certificate stating that I have 120 credits out of 180, which I presume will be as good as useless. I have an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Use and Support of IT. What I'm asking really is what is the best way to go ahead. Try and find an area with shortages, do the training and get the tickets so that I can work in that field and hope to get sponsored? Or is there another way that I can extend or change my visa type? I am asking now because I still have 11 months to work towards something and I want to make sure I'm heading in the right direction for that time, or if I'm spending money on retraining that I am not wasting time and money in the wrong areas. Any help or advice you can offer would be appreciated.
  5. Thanks for your help guys, Ill try and get on that Web Site as I don't have the original email.
  6. I don't have a print out of the email unfortunately and yeah I got the same response from Medicare. Do I need to approach the immigration department for a print out of my Visa? Is there an easier way to get hold of it whilst here in Oz do you know?
  7. Hi Hubbert, I have moved to Perth, only been here 3 weeks but I am having a similar difficulty in getting work and for the majority of my applications I am not even hearing anything back. I had an issue looking for work about a year ago in the UK and using the main Web Sites for jobs there were a lot of false positions being advertised just so that recruiters then had your CV, and would then potentially market your CV out to try and find a position. I am not sure if this is happening in Australia with Web Sites such as seek, but when I've tried following up on job applications it is very difficult to get any feedback at all. I have even applied to Macdonalds, Subway etc just so that I have money coming in and have had no response. I have approached Hays directly as they seem like the largest recruitment agent in Perth, after an hour or so with the recruitment agent she advised about how she was going to approach companies with an e-shot, list my details on their company portal etc etc all to try and get work. She also advised to dumb down my CV completely as most jobs I'd apply for I would be classed as over-qualified and I have removed reference to my WHV on there. Good luck with the job hunt
  8. Evening all, I went to the Medicare centre in Perth to try and get my Medicare card and was told I was unable to as I didn't have a copy of my Working Holiday Visa. Everything to do with my WHV has been done electronically, has anybody else had this problem and how did you get around it? I have insurance and I know as a British passport holder I can get emergency treatment if needed, but I also need the card for ID purposes too.
  9. hello, when do u want to achieve your target weight by? your goal?
  10. I'm not sure if there is one near to you but if you have a look at www.parkrun.com.au it is a group that arrange 5k races every week. It is free to run, they do ask though that if you are running regularly that you help out with the event organisation a few times per year. I haven't ran here in Aus yet but back in the UK the race was for all abilities and the winner ran it in about 17 minutes and the last person was around 45, so there should be somebody there to run alongside
