  1. It would have been right at the end I think because we were all due our grant around about the same time and theirs was a mass panic to get the required docs in. It used to be, not sure if its the same , that the CO would ask for something and then say you have 30 days to produce something. Even if you we're able to produce it you then had to wait until the 30 days had expired to hear from the CO again. A very stressful wait indeed. Someone who is a member on here ( it's not for me to name then abviously!) rang me in tears completely stressed by it all and barely speaking to her OH.

    Cheers for the reply.

We were asked for more evidence at the start and given the 30 days to produce it etc. I too am in the same boat as your friend (failure to declare on a landing card on a WHV) so just wondering at what stage they asked for character refs, I would have thought at the start they would know you had failed the character test and asked for the references along with evidence ? Also before doing the medical...

  2. Both had OHs with criminal records both said no convictions one also had visited Australia and ticked no on the landing card. Both had a CO who failed there character test. Both had to the scrabble around last minute getting together letters of explanation as to why they had lied ( ie said they hadn't realised it counted etc etc) also had to provide references of their good character. Both dud get their visa but had a lot if unecessary stress. Also one very well respected Agent on here has only had one visa failure and that was someone who lied about criminal convictions on their application!

Do you know how long into their application the CO failed it for the character test?

  3. I can only give advise on what au have been told. Whilst applying for our visa two separate friends I met on here were in serious trouble for not declaring their convictions both fortunately were using an Agent who managed to advise them on the best way forward. It is very serious and people need to be aware that failing to admit to crimes is a comment on your character therefore you can fail the character test. Not that surprising really is it?

did they not declare their convictions on a previous entry into Australia ? Also, did they get their visa's in the end ?

  4. Hi Kevin,

It seems that different CO's do things differently.

Some, upon initial contact (the email you get assigning your CO), give the HAP number and request that Medicals be done three months after date of application. Other CO's get in touch again around the three month mark with the HAP number advising to get it done then.

I would assume that if the CO requires further evidence from the start, they wouldn't give you the HAP number until their request for further info has been satisfied.

    Hope that helps :)

The CO is content now with the amount of evidence provided, she requested more which we sent and have heard nothing back.

What I was saying though was I think everyone gets given their HAP number during the first few months, whether or not it may later be declined for character issues later on in the process...

  5. My understanding - which could be wrong - is that they only ask for medicals once they are happy with everything else. They don't want to put people to the expense of a medical if their application is already doomed.

Are medicals not requested as soon as you hear back regarding your application and case officer assigned, whether or not your application may later be declined ? I could also be wrong but that was my understanding, as they need quite a bit of time to assess your application as regards character issues and stuff like that which needs more depth analysis.

I'd be curious to know which it is...
