Hi Sadie, you kindly helped with my question the other day.

You must be very excited to be off in May!!

can I ask, did WAPOL assist with your Visa as well as your husbands or did you have to apply separately

thank you.

 2. Jade86, my husband has applied from the UK and has been successful, he starts with WAPol in May. I asked him about your question and basically he said that you have to give examples of incidents that you have dealt with which involve the competencies that the Police look for. Such as: teamworking, problem solving, effective communication etc.. If you think about incidents you were involved with just tweak them to show these competencies, some incidents may use more than others. RTC's for example, working alongside other emergency services, remaining calm, communicating effectively. That sort of thing. Hope that helps.
 3. We are family of 4 moving to Perth and we have an Engligh Cocker Spaniel "Huggy" that we could not posible leave behind! He will be 5yrs old in May and it very much part of the family, the kids love him and I think having him with us will help the kids to settle as he is as much a comfort to them as he is to me and my husband! Yes we have had comments too about the cost etc... even my mother in law said oh you could get a lovely home for him easily!! Pah!! She wouldn even take him for a few weeks to save on kennel fees!!!! Dont get me started! LOL Anyway we are organizing it all, I am selling off stuff in the house to go towards his bills!!
 4. Thanks!! We wre told to use jays cleaning product on the camping gear! You must be excited about having your own stuff arrive.. How did you make do without things or were you renting furnished?
 5. Thanks! Hope to hear from the company soon so we know what's happening regarding taking our doggie!
 6. Ok thanks! We found that the shared container was the cheapest and shipping 8-10 weeks into freemantle, packed and unpacked, just have to pay extra for insurance cover. I was planning taking dishwasher and Fridge freezer, washing machine on last legs so will get new one, also looked at gumtree as it's supposed to be good for grabbing a bargain! I have some sentimental things, pic frames ornaments etc that I want to keep, taking towels, bedding, camping gear, Other big stuff like table 6 chairs, office desk, TV and stand, shelves... trying to think what else, emmm kitchen stuff, dinner sets, wine glasses pot and pans! LOL! Hubby has guitars, kids, books toys (but trying to get them to clear out some!!!) Oh my treadmill, and a metal action sofa bed! Doesn't sound like a lot really!! LOL!
 7. It was the company were using to send our dog, they heard from a client who has a dog there just now. I have not heard back from the company yet so just waiting to see what's going on. Obviously I dont want the timing to take any longer getting my dog to Oz as he already has to stay in kennels in UK for 30 days before he can fly as we leave earlier than him.
 8. Hi, Can anyone shed any light on what's happening there at the moment?? We are in the process of getting our dog ready to travel and were hoping he could spend his quarantine there in May but were told that there are bush fires and they may not be able to place dogs during May!!! Any info would be great! Thanks!
 9. Hey, I am moving to Perth with my family (2 kids aged 11 & 9, hubby and our wee dog) In 9 weeks and we are at the stage of getting shipping arranged but I keep changing my mind on what I want to bring!!! Being in a 3 bed house with 2 kids we do have quite a lot of stuff, but I dont know what items are more important to bring that others etc... Some folk have said take everything as it's expensive to replace, others say just bring a few things and you can replace most items out there!! We have had 4 quotes ranging between £4,000 and £2,500 for a shared 20ft container. We will be staying with friends NOR when we arrive, then looking to rent SOR and it will be unfurnished. (I'm not taking any beds or the sofa's as they are old and I'd like to get new ones to fit the rooms in a new house anyway) Any advice on this would be great!! Thanks so much! Sadie
 10. Oh that's awful!!! I too am recovering from a broken wrist since Nov so I have been unable to work (mobile hairdresser) which has put pressure on our funds etc... especially with all the cash you have to pay out for stuff in the beginning! I'm still having problems with my wrist, not sure if it's healing properly or not, getting second opinion from dr and awating his responce this week.... so trying to feel positive about that as well as pressure of move and finding work myself down under! My dauhter broke her elbow 3 times in her short life, so I know what's it's like dealing with an injured child although she sailed though it each time, I was far worse!! Thought boys were suppsed to be worse that girls for injuries!! Hope your daughter is ok though and my friend puts her 2 kids to gymnastics at they both love t in oz! My daughter is in the school team and she was recently at a comp for the highands and Islands in Inverness. She loves it too! Yes our wee dog he will be 5 in May he is my baby, I just couldnt bare to leave him behind and think it would kill the kids!!! He will be a comfort to them and us when we arrive over there!
 11. Ahhh, yeah I can understand that Sarah, I must admit it is a good idea using facebook but then I have been getting annoyed with folk messaging me and texting me about stuff all the time and asking what's FREE!! Grrr!! Saying that I have made over £500 selling stuff I dont use and clothes etc... money which is going towards paying for the dog!! It's costing about £2,500 to ship him! Still a way to go but hey! Lots still to sell Ha ha!! Yeah our quote was about £3,000 and that's from scotland as I think it's a bit cheaper if your further down the UK. Yes a lot to do and stress about yet before we get there!!! AAhhhhh!!! LOL I'm sure it'll all be worth it when were chilling at the beach with the BBQ on the go!! Glass of wine in hand eh! X
 12. Thanks so much for this info Julia, this is great to know! We will be staying with friends in Hocking untill we find our own place. Hopefully that wont be too long as we dont want to out stay ou weclome and think we will all settle once we have our own place!!
 13. Hi, Thanks this is very reassuring!! My daughter will be 12 on the 30th April, and she is quite, not really saying too much about it at all, so hard to knw how she really feels, but I do worry. She loves horses so I have been looking online to find some riding centres so she can still do that out there. I'm not too sure about the school ad how they classes work regarding age etc..? My son is 9 and he is quite excited about the idea of living in Oz, i would prefer if they could do their fisrt year of ozzie school in the same school, but dont know if my daughter would be in high school or not?? I dont mind keeping her back a year as it may help with her settling in, what about your kids? Are you south of the river? Nice to meet folk on here in same boat or have been in same boat! Dont feel so alone, as it's not qute the same talking to friends or family that arnt going through it.. So thank you for all the replies! Sadie
 14. Hi Sarah, I have set up a facebook page for clearing out the house!! Really good idea and you dont have to pay fees or post stuff! ha ha! Are you taking a lot of stuf from home with you? We need a 20ft container but were managing to share which keeps costs down too! That's the next thing to decide when we get our things sent over! It takes between 8-10 weeks aprox for you stuff to arrive.
 15. Hello and Thank you for the replies!! We fly from Inverness on 19th April, got really good price on flights using skyscanner to book! My husband (37) is joining Police in Perth after being sucessful in a recruitment drive! So we dont know where he will be posted yet but we think south of the river. Our friends stay north and the police campus is near there where hubby will be attending for forst 13 weeks training. We too are in process of selling our house, but would have liked a bit more money to go out with. Think this is a big worry, we have spent quite a lot on visa's, medicals, flights, etc... already!!! We have heard Perth is expensive to live, but hopefully once we get settled and I get work this will work out fine!!! ( I hope) We have a little dog we want to take with us (english cocker spaniel) and we have heard from the company were using that they may stop dogs being sent over in May because of the risk of bush fires near the quarantine place!!! Not what we need to hear!! Just got that e-mail yesterday!! Anyone else taking a doggie??? Sadie
