  1. I am not really aware of any developed country that makes any sort of satisfactory living from tourism. An area that creates mostly lower paid jobs. While helping to develop Thailand and Cambodia not necessary the answer to Australia's ever declining resource boom. .

Tourism is an important industry in New Zealand, directly contributing NZ$7.3 billion (or 3.7%) of the country's GDP in 2013, as well as directly supporting 110,800 full-time equivalent jobs (nearly 6% of New Zealand's workforce). A further 5% of GDP (or NZ$9.8 billion) is indirectly contributed through the flow-on effects of tourism. International tourist spending accounted for 16% of New Zealand's export earnings (nearly NZ$10 billion). International and domestic tourism contributes, in total, NZ$24 billion to New Zealand's economy every year.[2] Currently the Prime Minister John Key also serves as Minister of Tourism.[3]

As for Switzerland, a country in a prime Middle European position, small in area and population that has traditionally relied on its secret banking sector (more overt in recent times) in order to create wealth. Along with cuckoo clocks and a very educated local and many German and French commuting daily to work in high paid professions. Not forgetting a very high currency.Hardly a single identifiable feature with Australia, I'd have thought.

Secret maybe but more its efficiency and networks created for popularity of banking. And thriving biotech industry, watch making. Guess you could say a brain driven industry, compare to its neighbours Switzerland to France? similar to Singapore to Malaysia, New Zealand to Australia. Using services other than resources.

  2. Well Australians built this country up to be a strong nation that immigrants from all over the world have come to take advantage of time and time again... I'm sure they'll be able to do it once more.

It's not Australian rocks but rather our Australian mentality that we mine. ;)

The world sees it as "hard working immigrants recovered Australia, and made it what it is today"

The problem for Australia is the world has moved on

And at the helm of SS Australia are the cabin boys

  3. Your post doesn't make sense. Is your daughter applying for permanent residency? You talk about processing times for the visa but which visa do you mean?

    BB

    My reading of it was:

    Her: Working Holiday Visa

Her boyfriend: looks like on her parents 457

  4. The documentation really isn't clear and I'm glad I don't have to assess this one!

There's a further bit that says that for UK people not normally resident in England (wales, Scotland, NI), you have to meet the three year residency in England thing, relates to what you've posted there Marlou.

It goes on to mention international students not ordinarily being eligible, now, in all likelihood the university would assess you as International so whether that would relate to the loan I couldn't say.

You'd be best off asking the assessing authority directly explaining your circumstances: the way I'm reading the criteria it could go either way and they don't have an appropriate example to go off.

assume the confusion on 3 years, is its being used to exclude students going on to a masters after completing bachelors?

Your answers are best sourced from relevant faculty.

  5. The rate will differ between urban and rural, rural being cheaper.

Most Telco will not be interested at 300 so it would need to be capital investment on your part. Remember its not just the cost of digging and laying the pipe, there is ongoing maintenance, scenarios of tenants of the land it crosses digging through with a back hoe in later years. Switches?

Have a chat to some of the network guys in Australia

  6. hes definitely very respectful with women, they usually ask if he's gay lol. I don't think we're used to men who aren't total creeps and I'm told that's definitely the case in Darwin

Just have a great time Stacey, there is a lot to see and people to meet.

Lets see some more pics of places and people

  7. Would clean it yourself and stick it out with the bond argument.

The key is its a full clean which includes wiping skirt boards and inside/outside windows

Its not rocket science but just takes time - we had a difficult landlord but spent the right amount of time and got 100% of our bond back.

Although it was Victoria I would expect the same issue for the landlord in Qld. That is they cant re rent until the issue is cleared, so its just in much there interest to come to a fair agreement.

We just stuck to our guns about fair wear and tear.

  8. Remarkably similar all said and done. The result being to get away with as much as possible. One legally if a little grey, other grey likely illegal. Indeed the more one has the more greed sets in although corporates will suggest another term. Chevron being an example.

    chalk and cheese

    black and white

greed and stupidly. Would you expect individuals to take 25% of their income regardless of rebate allowances?

  9. You can add your complaint to Australia Post's FB page - along with a zillion others at the moment.

They've tried to run a PR promotion at Christmas - send us a photo/video of someone excitedly opening a present delivered by AusPost. But it's majorly backfired a la Victorian Taxis PR disaster - in a deluge of angry Australia Post customers whose mail has arrived late, or in very damaged condition with items stolen, or hasn't arrived at all. I'm one of them. Some poor PR person at Aus Post appears to be attempting to acknowledge each one. I've lodged a formal complaint form at the Post Office. I don't expect my problem will be rectified but at least they need to be told. And I certainly won't be using them again for anything more expensive than a birthday card.

Their service used to be very good but seems to have deteriorated rapidly in many areas in recent years.

Australia Post will be rolling out its innovative new delivery model in 2020

OK its the Pony Express except they are using old nags

But the cost of feed will be cheaper than petrol

  10. An ever more difficult place to live in I'm afraid. Some off shore options are looking increasingly attractive. Such changes and price increases are but the beginning of course.

We were offered a $million grant for innovation but meant keeping IP in Australia

We turned it down and people ask why?

Corporate tax rate 30% versus 13% or 17% or 15%

  11. Which state you are going will have had different outcomes for parents

Our experience was within Victoria and involved public and private (one catholic one independent). Problem with both is you either pay by mortgage or rent to be in the right post code, or you pay direct school fees. Either way each school and pupil is different and trust your gut feeling.

We received a diagnosis while in Australia (very long and drawn out process, which we ended up going private)

The school she was in flatly said they could not cope a month before the summer holidays (prep year starting in Feb)

    Points we found:

Get the right team around you and this includes both the school (needs principal to be a champion) and outside professionals.

There is so much work that has to be done in the home at times its like why are we paying all this money and still doing 30 hours a week ourselves - but that's important place for reinforcement

Look into future years at the school to see if it remains the right school - it may not be or it might be evolving ie new principal starts with early years with intent on middle and higher school later.

There is light at the end of the tunnel - daughter is now top 1% of highly academic school and looking like achieving dux and from social aspect her year turned up for her recent party.

Not all professionals are going to be right. We went through 3 before we got our star.

We did not find associating with parents of similar kids helpful, some might, we didn't.

Its not a disease its a gift, its learning how to get the best out of it that's difficult - anyone tried flying a helicopter for the first time? While singing opera

Movie theatres can be accommodating to lowering volume but you need to ask

Why supermarket shop when you can have home delivery (don't put your self in the difficult positions to start with)

  12. www.seek.com.au

All countries have "own experience" as priority check list. It has merit for some technical aspects but not as this level of transactional and communication. Just be prepared to take what ever to get that first week of local experience.

This might be your first step. We developed our own bespoke ERP/MRP in house system but others we reviewed would not assist your partner.

The main one I think she is likely to come across are Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, all the others will not necessarily get you the job unless you have in depth experience with them. My advice would be to focus on the skill set across all i.e. the bookkeeping. All systems are user friendly.

Reciprocal what is the rate for a good EA in Canada? Specifically Toronto as I will be needing one shortly as I move to North America shortly.

  13. London experience, exposure to Europe is far more valuable than Sydney / Pacific

Unless of course your career involves making surf boards

To be blunt you have to think am I going to learn more, be exposed to more, make me ready for the next level (not just a job increase on the pay scale but level i.e. from Senior Manager to General Manager or General Manager to C Level.

  14. Yes it is difficult to have to send your child/children to an under performing school but some of us have no choice really. With lots of support in the home environment children can do well even if attending a so called bad school however it's not ideal and given a choice we would not have done so.

Yes agree with the home environment and this extends to all schools good and bad. Its better to back up the teachers hard work with reinforcement at home.

Even within a bad school or a posh private school you can run the risk of a bad teacher

    Our experiences:

Public - teacher very lazy and gave the kids sweets to keep them under control

Private - unfortunate teacher sickness in another class disrupted their learning over 2 terms
