  1. Don't know about down south and real estate , but I can only give an honest assessment of the west miss .i had to pick a set of keys up from a real estate agent on the outskirts of brum .

The housing market is very buoyant...multiple offers on properties.

Too much demand ...not enough supply ., and that will always be the case in relation to parts of the u.k

Given the impact starts this coming financial year 6 April 2017 and gradually increases over the next 3 to 4 years I think we will see a massive change.

Either increase in rents by 50% or massive sale off of the 2 million buy to lets being affected

  2. Hello everyone.

I'm from Shanghai, China and I am applying for Oz PR with my wife and 3-year-old daughter.

We visited Oz last year and found that Oz is really a great country to live in. We all love Oz since then.

Recently,I heard there were some bad news against Asian people, especially from Pauline Hanson.

When we were in Oz last year, local people we met were so nice. I'm sure they are all nice people without doubt.

Most of my friends who already moved to Oz also tell me that most Oz people are really nice, much better than those in USA.

But I know 90% people in Oz are white people.I'm a little terrified if we would get discrimination since we are Asian people.

Most of us are really hard workers and trying our best to make this country greater.

Still someone would say we steal their job or money. It's hurtful and unreasonable.

Also, my daughter is too young now. I'm afraid that she won't be fit in so well.

Do Aussies really hate Asians? What's your real opinion about Asians?

Is there any suggestion that can help my daughter fitting into this society?

    Thanks everyone!

People worth listening too don't respect Pauline Hanson

People with chips on the shoulders will always complain to make them feel better inside

While you worry about the small proportion that will always be racist. Don't forget the majority who don't really care where you come from other than to make conversation. Who care more about what your doing than what you have done.

  3. So another friend in the UK has just found out were moving back. Again the reaction has been "Are you sure?" Then a paragraph about dismal England- from weather to economy.... anyone else getting this reaction? Is it really so bad? We're moving back for family mostly so we're definitely going but does make me a bit nervous for my children....

With Clause 24 of the Finance Act 2015 its a great time to return

Many homes coming on the market I would expect

    2017 house fire sales

  4. Any idea if its feasible to work in Birmingham and be based in Forest of Dean

Looking Monmouth girls school and have a 3 year contract in Birmingham to consider.

Could always keep a small flat in Birmingham?

  5. Assuming that he stands and is voted in by the party.

Is he (or any other de facto leader) then free to make any agreement he sees fit to make in your view? A big call for an elected PM let alone an unelected one.

The people have spoken so why is it such a big call?

Be it a close margin, it has got across the line and people will have to live with it.

  6. But I won't be selling anything so I don't think it will matter too much in the long run.

Selling is wrong move in down turn unless you have bespoke shares. This would be the best time to buy up those mainstream blue chip shares.

The market will bounce back, its just nervous in terms of uncertainty

    Trade will still continue

Its not the end of the world, its a change of guard.

  7. Haha, I felt quite sad I didn't get a 'welcome!' or any sort of fanfare as others have mentioned. But nevermind

    Ask them about the rugby

Tell them its a relief now your in Australia you don't have to try as hard

  8. Good news and bad news.

The good is that accounting is one of the few occupations that doesn't (currently) require any post qualification experience in order to get a positive skills assessment. Though, whether she could get enough points without any for experience is another matter.

The bad is that, as I read this, it doesn't look like she is a fully qualified accountant. If not, then no, she wouldn't be eligible. But, if she can claim to be a fully qualified accountant, then yes.

Part qualified means nothing to immigration, you either have passed fully or not. 11 papers out of 12 is still part, same as 3 papers out of 12 is part.

Fully Qualified involves experience + degree

Maintenance of Full Qualification requires cpd continual professional development

Real issue is ability for her to get work, without it she has slight advantage as it will be easier for her to start at bottom and gain entry level position.

  9. I was looking at a tape i had a while ago. Of poms being interviewed by Peter Fitzsimmons .A Anti Pom and Republican Aussie. You want to see it. if you want to get a distorted view of the UK. Fitzsimmons is interviewing this couple that live in Qld.And Moving Back To the Uk.And he wants to Know Why. First He Shows Two of Qld Most Beautiful Beaches. Then Compares them, with Two deserted Beaches in the UK.In winter, with Snow on the Pepples. Then asks the Couple Why would u want to Leave Qld for that? Then He Shows a Beautiful tree lined street in one of the best streets in Brisbane,Beautiful detached Houses, manicured lawn etc. Then he shows a Terraced Street in the Uk with Scrap Cars,Kids Jumping Around in them and graffiti everywhere.A bit of land at the end of the street like a bomb site. Then Asks the Couple and you want to move back to the uk to that. These Comparisons go on for Half and hour,of all the best about Qld and all the worst about the UK. And this is what most Aussie's think the UK is Like?Even our Long time Aussie friends Said To Me,You have no lovely open spaces,Or Beaches In England Have You? It's all Terraced Houses and Concrete. She didn't even believe The TV Show from the UK. Move to the Country, was real.Australia is so overrated.and the Uk so underrated I come From A Beautiful part.1 hour from The Lake District. There's nothing to compare,in Queensland.Even My Local Pub,There's no pubs in Australia to compare.or to the Character of the people. The Want to be Aussies have a different view.Just been reading a blog on hear by a couple of silly poms, that have just got their Aussie citizenship. They say they Feel So Different Now,And So Australian ??I've been hear 40 years, and i was told when i arrived, there's always a line drawn in the sand between Aussies and Poms. And it's so true.

The line in the sand is very true, but its often blurred by a simple Australian/British

There are similar folk on both sides, and its often confusing for both sides when either side is infiltrated by people with completely different views but quoting similar instances.

Desire for better is not a whine about current status

Some will whine about current status with no real desire for change

Some see hot white beaches, some see sun burn and cancer

Some see ice and snow and shiver, some run for the snow boards

Some claim to be great at Rugby, others "swing low sweet chariot..."

  10. It is not realistic to be looking for an employer who will sponsor you for a permanent visa. It is extremely hard to even find a sponsor for a temporary visa from overseas and permanent would be many, many times harder than that. As a nurse you should be looking into skilled migration.

However overall, the maths just don't seem to work and I do think you need to take a good hard look at this with your OH. Your £15k of house equity could easily be swallowed up in visa fees, flights and removalist costs. So you arrive without any buffer, nothing for a house deposit and nothing even to live on whilst you secure work? There are also a lot of unexpected expenses when you arrive and you burn cash getting settled in. I agree with Marusa that a move costs on average £15-20k, mine was more like £25-30k I would say.

You mention saving over next year, but are you really going to be able to save anything substantial in one year or so? And yes pushing things out further will impact hubby as you rightly say he would be knocking the door of 50. I don't know but this feels like financial suicide to me.

This is good advice, and while perhaps not want the OP wants to hear, its definitely something they need to hear.

Might be better to treat yourselves to decent holiday in OZ once a year and enjoy the country as a tourist rather than a captive.

  11.

    1. Has anyone any experience of short term rental furniture? Thinking of renting the essentials for 10-12 weeks until ours arrives. Any recommendations in teh Sunshine Coast?

Why don't you invest in good camping equipment?

    Air mattress

Fold up kitchen table and chairs

    Its a bit of fun

    Will save you stack loads

Easy to take with you next place

  12. I use a BA for my investment properties because that is all about $$$ and nothing else.

I would not use one for a PPOR as that is more about emotion than $$$$ and you can't outsource emotion!

    BB

But that's the whole point of a Buyers Agent

They take the emotion out of it by sitting you down with your pre set buying parameters

The decision is more about getting the right BA for you.

The ones to steer very clear of are ones that act in both capacities selling and buying.

  13. My husband and I emigrated to Australia in 2007 on a Contributory Parent Visa and became Citizens in 2012....however family circumstances have made us rethink where we really want to be at the end of our lives e.g. here in Oz where so far we have been very happy and involved or back in the U.K. with our daughter and remaining relatives and good friends. Here we have a son and our two gorgeous grandchildren aged 7 and 9....it breaks my heart to think of leaving them but...unfortunately there has been a recent big rift in the family between our daughter-in-law and in particular my husband which has caused him to want to return asap to the u.k. I am so torn in this decision...in fact with a daughter in U.K. and a son here ...I have and would always would be torn...but where is it best for us to be? I guess my place and loyalties are for my husband of 45 years! Are we too old at nearly 70 to be contemplating another big move across the world? We would probably look to re-settle in the South East where we came from but it is looking a bit pricey!! Would welcome any reflections on our dilemma...any tips etc

    Age is not the barrier

Why settle where you came from (South East) and not look to new start in South West, and give the grand children somewhere different to come stay?

    best of luck

  14. thinking of buying a house on next visit back and renting it for 12 to 18 months before returning for longer period.

Not needing a mortgage but would like idea of added costs will be incurring for purchase.

Will be wanting to complete decent conveyance, full building report

    Stamp duty? other new costs

Price range is GBP 1.5 to 3.0 million

  15. Should be ok to get in for 10. Is she doing postdoc at the uni or UHW? Bit quicker to get to UHW. Should be ok to get back for 3 (for Monmouth) but i would have a back up plan if she is struggling to get back for the school run. That stretch of motorway on the M4 seems to notorious for accidents....

Her daughter will attend school in Monmouth.

    She will lecture postgraduate

  16. In Aus, average salaries in the digital space are around $100-130k and often $140/$150k too.

In the UK, the same jobs are in the £35-40k range, which is $65-$85k. That's almost half of what you can earn in Aus.

How do people manage to work and live and commute and save in London at £35k, when it's hard enough doing so at double the salary in Sydney? Is London cost of living HALF that of Sydney's? The rents aren't much cheaper, that's for sure.

    Or am I missing something?

Australians are overpaid in comparison to worldwide averages. Mainly for reason of keeping up with disproportionate cost of living.

OP should really consider the differences a reality check.

  17. Its not too bad if you can commute off peak. Should take about an hour. At peak times the bit of the M4 between Newport and Cardiff is pretty horrendous

She needs to be in Cardiff by 10am and can return by 2pm, so leaving at 9am and returning for school pickup at 3pm sounds fine?
