  1. Dear Littkek69 I believe your years of experience will be recognised by Vetassess alongwith your qualifications in HR. By now your positive assessment must already be in your mail? I am in Perth since Jan 2013. Have had a few good interviews. Found recruitment processes for Government jobs very slow - taking almost 3 months from application to selection, however in WA it is the biggest employer. Secondly, it would be hard to get in Advisor roles as soon as you land in Australia. Primarily employers here look for a solid 5-7 years of solid industry experience within Australia (underline that) for such roles unless you are extremely lucky to have a local friend refer you. Most jobs get filled internally so it would be best if you can build a local network soon. I moved from Melbourne to Perth after finishing my Masters in HR and about 2 years of contractual jobs as a Recruitment Consultant and Generalist. Found it tough to form a network - it has taken me almost 4 months to find a few friends and a job as a Training Consultant in a Education Company here. So best be prepared with a backup for 4 - 6 months if you are moving soon to WA, SA, NT or ACT. Have a look at State Nomination Lists released in Nov 2012. I chose WA and Perth as HR Adviser shows high in demand and nomination process looks easier than for other States.
  2. I have been watching the State Nomination Lists for HR Advisor in Australia which were published in Nov 2012. I believe that only these states are providing sponsorship : WA SA NCT ACT NSW, VIC and TAS don't have this occupation in demand. So no point trying for jobs in these states. The standard answer from employers would be - you don't have enough local experience and from recruitment consultants would be - both experience lacking and no PR. I myself moved to Perth in Jan 2013 and have been fortunate to give 6-7 interviews for various Government and other organisations. Been selected for a role but am in the Pool waiting to be allocated a position. I found the entire recruitment process to be very very slow - especially positions within the Government. For example, I applied for the above role on 11th Feb, got selected for an assessment on 26th Feb, had my final interview on 7th Mar, and was asked to submit my Police Check on 26th Mar. Finally I received my selection letter in 1st week of Apr - nearly 3 months from applying. And only to find out it is a pool selection. So for those moving here, you are definitely coming to the right state (WA), but the going will be painfully slow. And Perth's way more expensive than Sydney or Melbourne. I suggest coming with a 6 month financial back up. Secondly, networking is the key to get most jobs and that takes time to build. Most jobs aren't advertised on job sites, they get filled internally. So in my view one can begin humbly with a smaller organisation with a Senior Administrator or Coordinator role and then work your way up in a couple of years. It is almost impossible to get Advisor or Consultant roles without 5-6 year Australian experience.
  3. Hi littkek69, I have been positively assessed as an HR Adviser by Vetasses owing to my 2 years Masters study IN Human Resources in Australia and 3 years of overseas experience in the same position. In my understanding if you have a majority out of the 12 years of work experience matching in description as the duties performed by the HR Adviser as stated on Vetasses, and can prove it with statements of services, pay slips, letters of offer from your employer/s etc, then there should be no problem getting a positive assessment. It says 5 years of paid experience matching HR Adviser will substitute for any formal qualifications. Where as you have a formal qualification (diploma) plus 12 years of experience in HR. So it does look optimistic to me dear. Gather all docs and put through to Vetasses. Good luck !
  4. Hi Karen Yes I have adapted my resume to closely match the Vetassess requirements for HR Adviser. I left out bits of my Operations management role as I was both HR and Operations Adviser. I prepared a statement of service myself - putting together atleast 70-80 percent of the tasks and responsibilities that I actually performed or were on my job description that matched the HR Adviser duties and took 2 of my seniors in confidence to act as referees, which they agreed having known me for 7 years. I did not inform my employer that I was going for the processing then. It was only when I got the positive outcome that mentioned informally to him. Secondly to Chris's query, it may be possible to pull off a positive assessment through Vetassess as a recruitment consultant if you have been an HR Adviser, as the latter is a broader role. So if you could just highlight the recruitment and progression side of responsibilities, it can work. The reverse doesn't seem likely I am afraid. Not that I have done so, but logically speaking - if all your appointment letters, pay slips and tax returns etc state your position as recruitment consultant (with specific duties), how then to prove you have been doing all the other ones that an HR Adviser does? It doesn't make sense buddy. You are welcome to try with whatever documents you have though to WA state.
  5. Hi there I read your question. I have not an answer but another question for you. I ask because I have recently moved from Melbourne to Perth. I am currently on a temporary visa called Graduate Skilled visa. I have successfully nominated HR Advisor as my occupation with Vetasses after completing 2 years study in Australia, including my Masters in Human Resource Management. I have just arrived in end of Jan 2013 in Perth to find jobs in my field. I have 55 points but I am short of 5 more to file my residency. Age : 35 yrs, Ielts: 7 in each band. 2 year Australian study, at Masters level. What do I have to do in order to get a state nomination? Does anybody know? Is it getting a 12 month job offer in my field or living in regional WA or proving I have worked minimum 3 months in my nominated occupation by way of payslips? Can anyone tell me? Thanks Kuntal
