  1. Just to close the thread, my funds have cleared and I now have access to uploading documents as per screen shot by Deb. Thanks all
  2. Thanks Deb, that's great. I definitely haven't seen anything that resembles the pic you attached. I'll just twiddle my thumbs until the payment has cleared. UK police checks are being processed :-)
  3. Hi, thanks for the reply. I have paid via bpay to avoid the $58 card fee and just waiting for the funds to clear. Current status still says "awaiting payment". currently my application appears to be locked. Am I right in presuming ill be able to putting my evidence together between the time of payment clearing and CO being assigned. Is this what people say when they say the submitted their evidence before their CO. NaFe
  4. Hey everyone, Sorry for what I think will be a stupid question. My wife and I received out invitation to apply for our 189 visa on Monday. We set up our immi account and went through the 17 steps. At no point did I see a comment or way of uploading evidence. Have I missed something? I looked for somewhere to upload documents, but did find anything You help would be much appreciated NaFe
  5. would the other side of the bridge around port melbourne/docklands be any better to commute to the east side (i,e, Box Hill etc) NaFe p.s. thanks for the replies
  6. Thanks for the replies. I dont think living as far out as Lara would work, as my fiance will need to commute to the East side of Melbourne and will probably need her car as she will need to drive to multiple locations during the working day. I dont mind if the road is busy, but dont really want to be in the situation where my commute is stop-start like the M25 in UK during commute time.
  7. So, my partner and I have made it over to melbourne/Geelong. We spent our first 3nights in Melbourne itself and in short term lease accommodation in Geelong while we try and find a long term rental. I'll be working out at Ford Proving Ground and my fiance is looking for a Speech Pathology job - likely to be in Melbourne (east side). therefore we are curently looking at somewhere in the middle. I know that our places of work are in the complete opposit direction so we are looking at living/renting in Port Melbourne/Docklands. We are thinking of choosing this area to rent rather than Williamstown/Newport as it will mean that I will be going over the Westgate freeway, heading away from Melbourne in morning rush hour and into Melbourne during evening rush hour. Our rationale is that the traffic will be better this way around. Can anyone tell me if this is the case or whether the traffic is pretty Sh1t in both directions? Cheers in advance NaFe
  8. haha...thanks Rupert. when i said i read it, i think it was a "financial forecaster" probably the same sort of person who said that the UK recession wouldnt last very long and wouldnt be very deep
  9. Jessie, out of interest, can you do these money transfers online? or do you need to go into a branch. i'm thinking that hsbc may be a good idea as i could just send between HSBC accounts then just distribute it between my UK accounts from there...
  10. i've got a HSBC account and mortgage with them. i'm not a premier account holder, but this sounds interesting. to be honest, I was looking to get an idea what people thought would be a good idea: -save money in Oz then take it back with me when i leave (exchange rate could be worse/better) -send money back to oz while exchange rate is good to do so NaFe
  11. Hi Guys, I am moving to Melbourne in under two weeks. well actually I land on Thursday 4th with my partner. As we are only moving temporarily on a 457 visa, with the "intention" of moving back to the UK, I have been thinking about what my options are with any savings that we accrue while both working in Melbourne. on one hand, while the exchange rate is favourable to be sending money back to the UK, i believe the interest rate in Oz is better than the UK. If I have done my calcuations right, we should be able to save a substantial amount of money while over here (inclusive of claiming our superannuation when we leave). Having done a little bit of reading on here it appears that the exchange rate is set to remain in its current position for a while. Nathan
  12. Wow, lots of replies. Thanks guys. I think your reply sums it up the clearest for me Rupert. NaFe
  13. Hi guys, I was wondering whether you could advise me on what happens when renting my property in the UK while I live in Australia on a 457 Visa. My partner and I are moving to Australia and want to rent out our property while living downunder. currently we have a residential mortgage with HSBC who have accepted our "Consent to Let" request for a 12month period. We have a tenent all lined up for £650/month. obviously this will equate to an annual rental income of 12x650 = £7800p.a split between my partner and I (mortgage is in both our names). Although this will be below our UK taxable allowance, will be have to pay any tax, as we will be living and earning in Australia and be treated as an Australian Resident for Tax Purposes? your Advice would be very helpful, or any indication of who i will need to speak to find out. NaFe
  14. Hi Craig, I was wondering whether you can answer a question for me. Is there any restrictions on me importing a car and selling it as soon as I get it to australia - obviously after it gets through customs and is road legal. Or is there as a minimum time you have to keep your car - similar to minimum time you must own it before you import. my rational, is that i am moving with my partner to melbourne and will likely need to own two cars. I have a nice car (in my eyes) and its looking like it will be more financially feasible to ship it out, sell it, and buy two cheaper cars with the money. I have a 2008 (57 plate) BMW Z4 2.0L with 50000 miles (80000km). I cant seem to find how much this is worth as no 2.0L Z4's are sold on the links you provide, or i can find. the car is probably worth £9k (~AUD$13.5k) in uk. even with approximately $9000 shipping it appears that my car would be worth more than AUD$22,500. your expertise view would be most appreciated Nath
