Thanks Craig, We are moving back to Sydney the car(s) (have only one so far, but the second will be purchased in plenty of time for importing rules) is standard except for stereo, speakers and amps, At most the modifications will consist of, Lowering Wheels Air con (using standard air/con parts from VAG) possible engine swap involving the 24 valve V6 engine out of the mk4 golf v6 4motion, I will certainly be getting in touch with you (iron lady imports) re. helping(prob by phone as I'm a slow typer!!) Could you give me a idea of the timescale I'll need to be working to cheers ​Steve

Hi I'm going to be importing 2 VW corrado VR6's under the personel import scheme, As these cars were never sold in Australia, are the checks it has to go through to get approval extensive and would this mean it would be a good opportunity to modify them here in the UK, I'm thinking changing the engine to the 24valve VR6, cheers Steve

Hi Brilliant, at last somewhere where I can get some proper advice about importing a car I've got dual citizenship (AUS and UK)we are currently 10 months into a 2.5 year stay in the UK, My father has given me his 1989 Porsche 944S2 cabriolet (in leu of work I've done) to take back to Aus, as this is a 1989 manufactured car I'll have to register it in my name (not a problem) to qualify for the personel import scheme. Car would be valued at around £5K However there's a possibility of doing a swap for a 1989 Porsche 944 turbo BUT this car I believe was manufactured BEFORE 01/01/1989 because it was first registered on 13/01/1989, therefore qualifying for the pre 1989 scheme. The Turbo is worth around £5K as well My question is What are the differences between personel import scheme and pre 1989 scheme in regards to 1/ Costs 2/ complience(cost and hassle) 3/ What would be the total cost of importing and would either of these cars be worth it, as the purchase price is pretty much zero. BUT I wont be selling(in the UK) and pocketing the money if I don't import into Aus Thank you in advance Steve
