  1. Hi All, Just more fact finding. What are the best schools in or near Point Cook. Either public or private. In addition is there a resource that shows the school league tables to gain an idea if a school is good or bad. Thanks
  2. Hi thanks for that, Although I'd love a job prior to the move, I'm not averse to moving with a job, just want to plan as much as possible. I've had a look on seek and there seem to be lots of jobs (direct & via agents). I think I have specialist skills, and work for an investment bank in the risk dept. I just wanted to see what others experience has been, I was thinking that I could come over for 6 months and give it a good go, if I get a good job then great. If not then back to the uk. Just a little wary that I'd be giving up a good job without a guarantee of another to walk into, a new experience for me.
  3. Hi The work experience element is that if the degree is deemed equivalent, then your work experience starts from first skilled employment. If not then it counts from when you qualified. However this seems a little odd as a qualified chartered accountant is far far harder than even a masters.
  4. Thanks supercad, that's interesting. In the uk some agents are useless but a few are good and have real contacts so I would use them. With Australia I don't know the market. Most people I know go out there through an internal transfer or with a big 4 accounting firm. I'm not keen on working in an accounting firm again (been there and done that). What are the best sources to find roles advertised (finance/internal audit/ sox & compliance). Also those that did make the move, how long did you have to wait until you got jobs. Thanks
  5. It's definitely annoying as even when I have my PR there is no way I would relocate halfway across the world without a job secured. The way the recruitment agents are going about things seems counter productive. Surely as an employer you want the best talent even if they physically aren't in the country at that point in time. Makes me reconsider moving.
  6. How long did it take for you to find a job after you moved to Australia, and would you recommend any recruitment agents? Regards
  7. Why do recruiters for Aussie companies advertise in the UK? I've contacted a few and they always reply "you need a PR or be in Oz". If that is so then why even bother advertising in the uk for roles?
  8. I am trying to establish if my degree is equivalent to an Oz degree. I did a degree in Economics & Accountancy (Hons) and subsequently worked in accounting. Would a transcript of my degree and results be enough for the ICAA to determine my work experience. Or do I need further info from the uni.
  9. Well she is a cert for British nationality and only has to complete her time limit so british nationality won't be an issue. We won't get rid of the other nationality until we have the British one in hand.
  10. Ok got the answer. It's a 929 form and seems very straight forward.
  11. Really, Ok I didn't realise, the website mentioned they still needed 10440 accountants. Why the change?
  12. Hi all My wife and I are in the process of gathering all necessary docs to apply for a 189 visa. My wife is a Tunisian national, and I am British, but she should get her UK nationality in mid 2014. Now if we apply now for a pr she would be using her Tunisian Passport/Nationality. But then by the time she is granted a PR she should have a British Passport. At this point we want to cancel the Tunisian Passport and Withdraw Tunisian Nationality. So my question is would I be able to transfer her 189 visa onto the British Passport/Nationality? Thanks
  13. I'm getting old payslips and P60's by reaching out to old employers. They should have copies.
  14. Thanks for that, I've been busy trying to get hold of references and also payslips (just in case). May as well get all done at the same time. But I need to wait until dec to get maximum points for work exp. should have 8 yrs post qualified in dec, so will apply then. Thanks again.
  15. Payslips for 8 out of the last 10 years. Bloody Hell! That's annoying!
  16. Ok that's useful, I was budgeting about $5.5k per month. But thinking of a good area, been told tookar or kew are nice.
  17. I won't debate what people with class do or don't do as it is very individual to each personality so you will find people on each side. With regards to the compassion, yes for the truly justified people who deserve it I agree. But there are so many who screw the system, and the system is such that there is no real incentive to get people to train or work. Why sacrifice my weekly allowance when I do nothing if the alternative is work 40hrs and only earn a little more (net). The benefits system is fundamentally broken.
  18. And may I add tax avoidance is not illegal. It is a legitimate avenue that EVERYONE can use, if they knew how. Ask your self, would you pay £120 for a jumper if you had a legitimate way of buying Said jumper for £100. Anyone who does willingly pay extra is surely a fool!
  19. True, but a very simple solution if people don't like banks is to withdraw your money in large numbers. All banks by their nature are not equipped to deal with everyone withdrawing. However the key issue is the introduction of exotic derivatives which are traded but not backed by real assets. If you want to fix the mess then this needs to be addressed, otherwise nothing much will change.
  20. Surely the issue isn't with immigrants but with uneducated unskilled bottom feeders who live off benefits and screw the system, squeezing everybody else's standard of living. Sure the media sensationalises the immigrants who claim benefits, but I've seen Lots and lots of "British" people who are a complete drain on society. Without immigration many British institutions would simply collapse, eg the NHS.
  21. The priority would be schools, so I'd want to live in an area with good schools. I don't need to be right on the beach, but would be nice to be near enough to drive there on the weekend. Also close enough to the centre that my daily commute isn't more than 40mins (bike, train or car).
  22. Definitely joining a sailing club, not buying a boat, don't have that sort of money yet. But somewhere I can take the kids sailing etc. so membership for the family.
  23. Hi Initially thinking of Melbourne but also Sydney. I'd be on a 189 visa.
  24. Hi Just wondering what people generally spend on an average month in oz, as trying to figure out how much would be enough for me to live on. We are a family of 4 (me, the mrs, 2yr girl, 4mths boy). So costs for rent, food, entertainment, travel, utilities, medical, car, mobile, school/nursery, gym, golf club, sports for kids, sailing. And based on that what sort of income would I need. Thanks
  25. I was actually thinking of Melbourne, and to be honest I don't mind political incorrectness as long as it is not just veiled racism. We are religious but don't wear traditional clothes etc as that is not religion but culture. Being British Asian I find it weird when I see people in the uk wearing clothes worn in Pakistan or India, just because its freezing here and those clothes are designed for dry hot countries. Also can't stand the face veil, that's not religion, that's cultural ignorance. Anyway I do find the local experience bit confusing, how are you supposed to get local experience without someone giving you a job. Not only that, how are Aussies supposed to get local work experience without getting a job? So my biggest constraint is getting a job before I would move. So whilst Melbourne is top of the list, I would go where the work takes me. The mrs is a languages teacher so would figure that she could work almost anywhere. I am a chartered accountant, so would want to work as a CFO or Internal Audit.
