  1. Thanks guys, and yes 457 is dodgy as it's only temporary, but we will be applying for rsms hopefully instead. However, if it is a 457 then so be it as too old for pr unless regional. And yes, nsw has been the only state that we have been told to avoid. Australia is definitely hitting hard times in areas like all other countries. Hopefully as both of us have occupations on the wanted list, I'm hoping this will increase our chances of work and sponsorship if one of us fail. Thanks again.
  2. Hi, I have just had conflicting advice from migration agents as to whether we would have to pay school fees for children in primary or secondary school. Can anyone on a 457 visa whether they do or they don't. I do understand that on a 457 visa you are not eligible to apply for help towards childcare, but this is different. Thanks for any help.
  3. Thanks guys, my husband is a hard worker and determined, he has had to be in England to keep working as it's quite bad here, so he will give it his best shot. Well, I hope he does and doesn't slip into holiday mode and just enjoy himself too much without the kids and me lol! Yes Nohea I have three children. Our friends are in Kirwan and go to the willows. We are heading for kirwan because my son is nervous about the move, so hope that having friends in the same school will help the transition. Personally, just looking at the naplan results I would prefer to stay in Mundingburra as the catchment for the secondary school I would prefer is there. Any advice on schools and areas are always welcome. I will have two for primary school and then my son will move to secondary in Jan 15 I believe. Having said that about the areas. My friends have said how lovely the willows is and how their children love the school. Anyway, any further developments regarding work would be great, as would like some leads before my husband comes over. Thanks all that have replied.
  4. Xpattsv, Sorry forgot to ask, what is the career guide? We have friends in Townsville but they don't know what that is. Thanks
  5. Hi Guys, sorry I haven't been in touch sooner. Why Turkey? My husband is Turkish and I have Nationality too so it's the easy option for us to go there instead. Turkey's tourism will always be there unless a war breaks out. The riots in Turkey are nothing to worry about, did everyone stop coming to London when the riots were there, no. It will blow over soon enough. Tradies in Turkey do not earn any money what so ever, so he can't do that. It would be a case of going into tourism which I do not want again! So much competition, you really need money to start something big and new now for it to work, and it's not the best environment for my children. My husband said in England we are riding and horse, but if we go back to Turkey we will be riding a donkey! lol x Getting again as ever mixed views on work in Townsville. I do think that there is probably more work there than say Adelaide which was my first choice, but we now be sending over my husband for a reccie soon to discover for ourselves without dragging the whole family over for a mistake. Thanks for all your contacts before, they are appreciated. If you hear of anyone looking for carpenters then please post xx Adrienne
  6. Thanks xpattsv, that's very reassuring. We were just about giving up and looking into going to Turkey, but maybe we should give it a go. You probably would have no idea, but do you think they would be open to sponsoring someone?
  7. Hi all in Townsville! My family and I are thinking of moving to Townsville due to our migration agent saying there is work there. We were originally looking at Adelaide or Perth. My husband is a Carpenter, but is pretty much multi skilled and has experience on large construction from foundations to customer care and shopfitting, with some small plastering, bricklaying and plumbing experience. Can you tell me whether there is work over in Townsville? We won't be coming over with pr though, it will be on a student visa then hoping to find sponsorship. Any advice appreciated.
  8. Hi Paul1Perth, in answer to your question about the migration agent, we will be coming over on a student visa, with hope to find a sponsorship. Because my husband is a Carpenter, the migration agent has said that hoards of brits and other nationalities are heading for Perth, so my husband would be competing with loads of workers looking for work who already have PR. In Townsville, apparently, as I have never been, he said it would be much easier to find a sponsorship. I have found when talking to other construction workers and carpenters on PerthPoms, they are struggling to find work, but not all agree. It is difficult to know. I would prefer Perth to be honest, but am worried that it is so spread out it would be hard to find work and sponsorship and not have to travel. Having done a bit more research into Townsville, I have found better schools and two secondary schools now that are good, so that's a relief! So apologise for my last post of no good schools! Our friends have been there now for three weeks and are loving Townsville, they are in Kirwan. They have travelled to a lot of places in Queensland and said they feel it's the best place for them so far (to live in). However, the humidity is hell, so am worried about that too now!!!! I will post a new thread about work as want to find out about work opportunities in Townsville before we take the plunge! Thanks guys, good luck to all of you moving over, hope your not as stressed as I am!!!!
  9. Thanks Paul1Perth, yes sorry, the 'child friendly' beaches were my interpretation not yours. How are you finding Perth? Our migration agent says that it will be hard to find work there, so it will be easier to head to Townsville. I do agree, but it sounds a bit harsh. Cyclones, jellyfish, schools don't look that great on the Maplan results. Secondary school (only one I have found) looks terrible. Not sure what to do really. Sorry rambling a bit....:chatterbox:
  10. Hi MrsBee, we have to make a decision on either perth (my husbands choice), Adelaide (my faviourite) or Townsvile (migration agents favourite!). Can i ask how you found Perth compared to Townsvile. I know you haven't been in T long, but are you leaving perth for better shores so to speak. Any info grateful. And yes, how is beach life in Townville too. We love the sea and beaches, so if they are not child friendly as Paul1Perth says, then I guess this will be disappointing for us all. I did think though that the jellyfish etc. were only at certains times in the year. Is there a beach that is sectioned off or netted or something. Or a man made beach? Thanks
  11. Hi all, we are considering coming over to either Perth or Adelaide this October or possibly January. However, reading the posts about the job market it always seems to get a bit heated and a lot of disagreement on whether there are jobs or not with no real outcome. So....for any carpenters out there in Perth or Adelaide, or construction workers.... Is there work available? Are you working? Obviously the job market is slow for you guys in Australia, but it is really quite bad in England. Thanks, as we are in two minds whether to come or not. My husband is a carpenter with a broad amount of experience but is working through agencies with some gaps between work. We want the better life as do all, but there has to be work to live. Thanks all, I've posted this on Perthpoms and adelaidepoms too.
  12. Thanks everyone, I am beginning to love it and am desperate to get there. The actual job base is in Millicent (which looks lovely too) but the work is along the Limestone Coast so am very excited as Millicent, Beachport and the Mount all look lovely. Now we just need to be successful with the job!! To 'iron chef', thanks for your input and yes you are right, compared to England the weather is practically tropical!! hahaha
  13. Thanks guys, keep it coming, feeling better about the place now. Just found some activities for the kids so am feel that there sill be enough for us to do etc.
  14. Thanks everyone, will look on the adelaide site.
  15. Hi everyone, possible move to mount gambier. Can anyone tell me what the area is like? We are a family of five, our children are 9, 7, and 2. we like the quieter area, but is it a good place to raise a family? Enough to do etc.? Can't seem to find out much about it on line. Thanks
