  1. This is a question for anyone that has bought a property in Australia then returned to the UK and kept it as an investment property.

Were you up for a big tax bill each year? As a foreign resident you don't get a tax-free threshold, so any rental income will be taxed.Did this along with any land tax make it worth your while, minus any deductions such as strata/loan interest etc?

The aim would be to move back into the property down the track.

I gave my test on June 12th at Parramatta and passed the test. Yet to receive approval letter. Immi account still says as "RECEIVED" . Anyone who recently gave the test in June and is still waiting for an approval here ? I really dont know whats happening with my application, people who applied after me have got their approval.

    Still waiting from May.

  3. NXT did express their view that the changes shouldn't be back dated and only put in place from when this becomes law.. So does this then mean people who meet the CURRENT requirements and lodge before it becomes law will be approved ? Eg: in my case where I have had PR for 2 years and will have been in the country for 4 years at the end of the year.

    My situation.

Arrived Feb 2014 - PR granted Jan 2016.

Would have been eligible Feb 2018 - now Jan 2018.

10 months is now 33 months.

And there'll be some with way less than 10 months affected.

5 months for me. This is BS. Hopefully they make it that it's only for new PR applicants.

But I can for see if you currently on PR you will still be able to apply under the old policy of 12 months waiting time, just a thought am sure.

This would be the ideal scenario. Have you seen anything to indicate this will happen, or is it just your personal opinion ?

A hard border between NI and the UK.

Newjez.. what you have said makes no sense. I suggest you go and look at a map.

Speaking as someone from NI the idea of "giving NI back to Ireland" is both delusional and stupid.

  7. My wife is a Computer Engineer from India. We have got the PR visa and are landing in Sydney on 4th December. She has no work experience.

The IT industry is built upon having work experience. Unless it's a completely entry level role, of course.

  8. I'm not sure why people here seem to think that Melbourne, Sydney are the places to get IT work, these are the HARDEST Markets to find work in, yes there are more jobs adverstised, BUT there are also a LOT more applicants and a lot more local candidates that your are up against.

People come to Sydney and Melbourne because they have usually specialised in a certain area of IT eg: finance/trading technology, and that's where all the jobs are. If you're an entry level IT person/level 1 support then yes, you'll get work anywhere.

  9. I've been in Sydney since December and haven't had any issues finding work. There seems to be LOTS of IT jobs across the whole spectrum and any of the recruiters I've spoken to (a couple of whom are friends) have said the same.

Generally in Sydney if you can speak good English, are white (sad but true), have the necessary skills and are willing to learn, you won't have any issues finding work.

  10. Feeling really disappointed :( After seeing some of the March applications being granted so soon, I had hoped that I would get some positive news regarding mine; I applied 14th March. The waiting has been driving me insane; I feel in total limbo and plus planning a wedding on top does not help! I got a response from my case officer today, simply saying that she would give me 28 days notice to book my flights to go offshore...but still no visa grant date! I thought applicants got 2 weeks notice...?Confused...so this now thinks my visa will take longer. I know I sound like a whinge but this process is so stressful and it doesn't help that I do a job which works with asylum seekers and their visas!!! Still hoping it will be soon...

Stressing about it won't help matters, it won't speed things along. Better off just taking it for what it is and wait it out.

  11. I am moving over at the end of the year with my Australian girlfriend on a defacto visa, so thankfully I don't need to worry about the skills assessment side of things.

My background is in trading application support and engineering, and with Sydney being the main financial centre in Oz it has been a driving factor in choosing where to settle.

How is the IT market at present in Sydney ? Has anyone on here got any experience within this particular field in Sydney and can point me in the right direction ? The obvious choice would be the ASX but there must be more out there!

  12. Thanks Snifter, I knew I had ages to go yet, I read a few posts on here and it looked like people had received their decision and were waiting for the visa to be issued. I was just wondering. Thank you for your reply

    Becky

I got the following 4 months into the process:

"Thank you for your message and please note all requirements have been met and your visa will be granted around 8 to 9 months after the lodgement date."

I haven't heard of them making the decision right at the end of the process - If they have enough evidence I think they know then that you have got it, but have to wait as there are only a certain amount of grants allowed at once...
