  1. Yeh i think 2 weeks would be ok, have a look at ielts-simon.com, i found this really useful and provides you with lots of hints and tips on what the format of the exam is like etc. I sent my ANMAC assessment off but I made the mistake of saying I had passed when in fact I hadnt got 7 in the reading, (got 6.5 ), I just looked at my overall score and pressed 'send' !! , anyway, I dropped them an email saying what I had done and they came back immediately and just said as soon as they receive the IELTS pass they can finalise the application and it was not a problem (phew!!) I cant get into another one now though until the end of June.

  2. I am 8 months post qualifying, I HAVE to get the 20 points which is possible by getting 8's in the academic. As stated above you'll need a minimum of 7's in EACH section to satisfy the ANMAC skills requirements. However, if you dont gain the 8's (20 points) in the academic and get a minimum of 7's (10 points) you can re-sit and do the general, get 7's in each section you can claim a further 10 from here ! = 20 points

Good luck... have you booked your test??

  3. Thanks Rupert. She will obviously insult an immigration consultant at dome point but it is vood to have a realistic picture first of all options.

    Ssome

LOL. your reply made me giggle.... 'insult' 'vood' dont you just love predictive texting

  4.

Ok I'm basing this on the hope that as a registered nurse I will get a upositive skills assessment. My husband to be is a pipefitter but we cannot appear to identify him a suitable nominated occupation that meets his trade therefore cannotorganise for him to claim points for partner skills on a 189 we can't go for 190 as I am only a year qualified and the state need me to have mote experience. At the moment if I applied for 189 Iwould need to get 20 points for ielts to make up the points to 60. As I don't have experience and my partner will not have a positive skills assessment. Sorry I'm using a phone so excuse the poor ptronounciation. And spelling. I don't think I will be able to get 20 points for ielts hence why I though a 489.might be more suitable but if you're saying that's not feasible then I have no idea what to do :(

Hi.. Im an 8 month post qualifying nurse too and my only option is the 489 visa, as Im 44 I have limited time to get everything sorted before I hit 45 (thereby losing a further 15 points after Im 45 !!)

I have to gain 20 points in the IELTS, as you can see I still dont have the required 8's in each section therefore I have to resubmit for visa purposes.

Good luck, as 489 is my ONLY path in, nothing I can do about it so whatever is thrown at us which is negative on this visa I have no option but to accept it and just get on with it.

Have you done the IELTS yet ??

  5. I am a nurse and just getting the documents together for my initial skills assessment with ANMAC. For those who have got to the visa application stage, could you tell me what documents (and HOW MANY?) do you think I should get officially signed for at the solicitors so that I only have to make 1 visit and hopefully keep the cost to a minimum.

    Thanks in advance

  6. Im nowhere near that stage but how do you go about medicals and police checks, do they provide recommended institutes? how long are they valid for and roughly how much do they cost?

    Thanks...

  7. I know!! Who knows how long it will take now! Gutted I was hoping to get my LOD this week. :(

Maybe if they receive that within a week providing the IELTS centre send it straight away they may be in a position to just confirm your LOD, they are probably just back logged and im sure it doesnt take 16 weeks to process just the back log they have to cope with .... hope so !! for when the weeks start ticking for me !

  8. in the supporting document checklist No. 8. Professional References

Could someone advise what they submitted as evidence of at least 3 months paid work experience as a nurse?

Im not a stupid person but I presume they want copy of wage slips? Do we have to approach our employers/ward managers for anything, I really dont want mine to know just yet, I havent worked longer than 3 years so Im unable to claim extra points at this stage...

    Thanks for your help..

  9. For your 16 yr old, it might be worth considering a Senior College as opposed to a school - these are places that do Year 11 and 12, and quite a lot of pupils change to them for their final years for various reasons, so your daughter would not be the only 'newbie'. There are a few around Adelaide - USC, Marden, Eynesbury off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are others. Ages vary a lot in senior years as often pupils will skip or redo a year lower down, so you will get kids completing Year 12 who are nearly 19, and others who are only just 17 for example.

thank you you for your advice. When it comes to my children they are my no 1 priority and will exhaust all avenues when it comes to the best path for them both. I'm certainly not naive or blinkered with regards to the seriousness of this important time for them and will not be making decisions lightly.

that said, it is still my intention to get there ASAP and not wait till they have finished a levels etc, I think the sooner they get chance to meet people the better it can be for them.

  10. My daughter will be 16 and will complete her Gcse exams in June. We are more than aware that they will not be of any use over in oz, we hope to get her back to a further 2 years at school in Adelaide where she will be able to gain the relevant qualifications PLUS have the opportunity to gather a social network which I believe would be a brilliant start for her. My other daughter is 18 ! And she hopes to start a taffe / uni course. I would NOT have considered leaving them until they had finished, I think the sooner they make new friends out there the sooner they hopefully will settle in. Both my children are keen and have been for the last 5 years, that doesn't stop me worrying about them though.

good luck, I'm sure she will make new friends quickly and forget what all the fuss was about xx

  11. Baz, I'm not going to Tassie anymore, but Perth. Goods shipped from Manchester port. My quote also includes storage prior to going if I need it and it's not time limited storage. The company I am going with are a trusted company and the area manager is an old boss of mine going back (quite) a few years so I know that my things will be in safe hands. I have yet to get a quote from Pickfords, whom I used to work with, but tbh, I don't think that the two quotes I have can be beaten. It's all in the negotiation!

What is the company name? keep it in mind for the future...

    thanks

  12. Hi,

Yes, other half said she hated every minute of it! She teaches at a high school in Halifax. How about you guys, where are you on the skilled migration list?

Funny, I grew up in Crimble and my Dad lives there!

Im a nurse so I shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job, may not be the one I want to start off with but my priority is to just get the ball rolling out there ASAP. I can't apply for permanent residency as i don't have enough years experience plus as I'm 44 age is against me for those much needed extra points, hence why I HAVE to get 8's to gain the extra points. We have been advised to go for the state sponsored visa, certainly not my first choice but we have to go with it. We will have to bite the bullet and just go with it, then once the 2 years are up we shall apply for permanent residency.

got excited today as I arranged certain aspects I.e. Nursing registration papers to be sent to Oz, sorted out the 'notary' to sign my documents.... Got few things together and so it shouldn't really take too long .... My ideal would be to be in Oz by January, start of the new school term for my girls ....

  13. Don't worry it will turn out OK - partner felt the same way about the reading part but passed it OK. She said the worst part was waiting around feeling like the only English person there!!

Hahaah I know what you mean, there was just me and 1 other lady who were native English. I felt really uncomfortable stood in the queue lol, and they were so rude as well, the examiners had to constantly ask them to be quiet and not do this and that, it was so annoying.

good to see your well on your way now !! Your not far from us, we live in slaithwaite ! Where does your wife work ??

  14. IELTS-simon.com is a good website which is free and I found this very useful.

    I. Sat my IELTS yesterday, everything went well apart from the reading which I felt was a total disaster. It was just the luck of the day on what paper you will get, unfortunately mine was quite complex, everyone I spoke to said the same, they felt they hadn't done well in it at all.

  15. After an hour and half of checks, thumb prints and photos I eventually sat the test !!

Listening test went as well as I could expect, the reading was difficult literature to read and so if I fail it will be because of this section I'm sure. Writing went ok too as did the speaking.

just feel really disappointed with the reading part :daydreaming:

  16. We'll I'm off to take my IELTS exam today in Manchester, I need to get 8's for everything but feel totally unprepared.ive been dipping in and out of many help websites but still don't feel positive

    Oh well..... Fingers crossed.....

  17. I am taking my IELTS next weekend, totally in meltdown over it and getting myself in a real pickle! Im doing the academic and need to get 8+ for each section. Have been told that if I achieve 7+ I have the option then of sitting the general test but would have to gain a minimum of 7 for each of those too.

I have been looking through the books but it doesnt make me feel any better about all this. I think that as I have just completed a degree at University all this extra pressure is a little 'mad', it makes me feel its just another way of getting lots of money of us.

    Good luck !
