  1. Hi... We too arrived on a regional visa. We chose Coffs Harbour and so glad we did. Hospital is ALWAYS looking for staff so you wont struggle. Housing is affordable, lifestyle is just amazing, beaches are lush. We cant believe we live in this little pocket of paradise.

If you want to add me on facebook 'Debbie Cherry' I can message and pass on any more advice

  2. After saying he would never fly to Australia my (78y) dad is ready to book flights for next March to come and stay with us on a 12 month holiday visa :cute:

Couple of questions hopefully some of you can help me with.

How does booking flights work? do airlines charge a lot should dates have to be amended etc.

Can anyone offer any other advice that I need to consider before he gets here.

    TIA

  3. We moved here 3 weeks ago and awaiting our OPTUS FETCH TV BOX. In the meantime we brought our LG TV with us, tried the converting to Germany/Belgium and pretty much each country in order to try and tune into the basic channels... Nothing.

Hubby decided yesterday to get a smaller TV which we could use in bedroom, so obviously would be compatible, got it home, tried to tune in and nothing..... Went and bought an indoor digital aerial, nothing. The aerial outside looks to be in good order etc and we checked with neighbours whether they have problems with reception but they say they never have.

So, does anyone know what we are doing wrong ?? At a dilemma on what it may be ???? Thanks .....

  4. Hi Cherries, will you be working at the CH Base Hospital?

Just be prepared for wild and woolly weather. Coffs can get very, very humid, very very hot, and very, very windy, particularly in the afternoons. And then there are the very heavy thunderstorms which often come out of the blue. However Coffs is sub-tropical, which goes hand in hand with weird weather.

You are coming to a very beautiful part of Australia, so have made a wise choice and hopefully will garner some wonderful memories to take back to the UK (if/when that happens).

Hi.. Hopefully I will gain employment there, I've a few jobs to apply for now. I am well aware of the wacky weather but can't wait to experience it.

  5. I've tried locating appropriate answers but figured I would ask away as I cannot find the answer.

We are keeping our mortgage free home in the UK and the mother in law will stay in rent free. We move in 3 weeks to Coffs Harbour on a 489 visa.

The house is potentially to keep her housed and we would sell in the future. Do we have to pay extra tax on this ? We are looking to rent initially on arrival to Oz until we find somewhere we like and then look to take out a further mortgage as and when.

Any help ŵould be very much appreciated.

  6. I feel your pain, I am a nurse too and failed 3 times on the reading, 7, 7.5, 7.5 and then on my fourth attempt i got 8.5. I used the practice materials you can log into when you apply, IELTS-simon was good too, I also had the cambridge book. I just found the amount to read in the sort amount of time and then having the stupid misleading questions was just so frustrating. I firmly believe that the last test I did was passed by pure fluke. Youll get there in the end xx

  7. I rang 0061 731 367000 which is the direct number, you will hear the automated message first, once thats finished theyll either say they are busy or it will ring through and someone will answer. I gave them my reference number, name, DOB when asked. Within 20 minutes I had the visa 'FINALISED '

  8. Congratulations to everyone who has been granted their visas.

We're still waiting for ours. I was wondering if the emails will come straight through to me or will I find out by my agent?

When your immigration account states it has been 'Finalised' if you go into the 'VIEW CORRESPONDENCE' you will see the visa grant confirmation which they will send to your agent. I have an agent, I contacted them this morning via email to let them know I had my visa hahahaha! She later confirmed this in writing and attached the letters of which I had already seen.

I phoned the Adelaide office this morning at 6.00 and got through straight away, the chap was lovely and told me he wuld finalise it straight away for me, and he kept to his word and after logging in again 15 minutes later it had been completed.

Good luck to everyone else x

  9. Im a newbie i may say :) just lodged our visa yesterday, trying to avoid the changes in rules that might affect us :) i know we will be waiting for long and its really overwhelming, but i know one day we will all be living in our Australian dream:wink:lets keep our faith alive.. Me and my family are currently living here in Melbourne for almost 4 years now through 457 visa, and we are in transition to PR through visa 190 :) it is indeed a nice place to lice in.

Awe thats nice, at least you are already there and after the 1st July theyll be ready to dish those visas out again. Im sure yours will be very straight forward and youll be permanent residencies before long. Where abouts in Melbourne are you?

  10. Well we are only a couple of days away now from the 1st july. Lets hope we all get to hear quickly regarding visa allocations for the 2015/16 allocations. The past 6 months since I lodged has been a turmoil of emotions. Everything has been put on hold, work colleagues forever asking me if I have the visa yet, logging onto the Immigration website 5+ times a night when on a night shift (just in case of course !!) viewing hundreds of properties in Australia which I think would be nice to live in. Selling the house yet no visa has arrived. Family and friends believing as its been so long we musnt be going now.... Just another couple weeks and I wander what we shall all be doing.....

Once you get your visa, whats the first thing your gonna do ???? After Ive told everyone and celebrated Id like to book the flights ! eek !!

Good luck everyone, nearly there now:wink:

    Hi

I am a staff nurse and I am hoping to move to Adelaide next year. I have consulted a migration company and was originally quoted £1800 + vat for thier costs ( I still have all other stuff to pay lol) but today when I told him I was going to try myself he managed to get the price to £1200 + vat. I think I may be smelling a rat but I would like the peace of mind of having someone check everything for me. Also he said I would be better going on a 489 visa due to my age (40 just turned lol) can anyone advise me on this and if someone has used them even better I have copied the prices below and would really appreciate any help thanks in advance

Hi, Im a nurse as well going out on a 489 visa (aged 45 now), this was my only option for a visa due to the points etc. Here is what I have spent so far to date:

    IELTS x 4 attempts !!!!!! £560

    ANMAC Assessment £250

    Notary Certification £120

Go Matilda £480 (reL EOI), £480 (re Mis North Coast Visa 489 App) + £600 (Final Visa)

    Mid North Coast Sponsorshop £450

Visa Application £4500 (3 adults 1 child ((my eldest daughter being 18)))

    AHPRA £270

    Medicals (x4) £1100

    Police Checks (x4) £100

I submitted my final visa application 31/12/14 and due to delays for one thing or another I am hoping to hear from 1st July onwards. Its been a roller coaster of emotions, financial stress etc. But the wait is almost over and I really hope everything comes through soon. Then its more money as we look at flights, seen prices for October at approx £2500 and a container at aprox £4000.

Doing this visa has not been easy. Having a migration agent has certainly helped us. I wont go into the ins and outs on here but they were priceless at one point and have been a huge help.

    Good luck x

  12. Congratulations mate! Fingers crossed for the rest of us that grants will come soon! I'm so tired of waking up every morning, sometimes at night, just to check my emails...

Sooooo glad im not alone when it comes to waking in the middle of the night to check my Imm account. I was embarassed when my migration agent told me she receives an email everytime someone logs into the account :err: Doesnt stop me though and I still keep checking

  13. Thanks cherries002. Can I ask when you applied to AHPRA? I hope I hear something from them soon. I applied for an ITU nursing post in Canberra yesterday. Closing date is tomorrow so I hope I hear something next week. Fingers crossed! So many things up in the air at the moment. Visa, ahpra, job, lol! X

I applied for Ahpra in Feb. Relieved it all went through with no problems. Now that I have that secure I have seen a few jobs myself that are of interest so I think I will start applying :)

  14. I could really do with a big virtual hug right now. Being the one who sorts everything out in my marriage, bills, money savings etc, it seems The only person who seems to understand what I'm going through right now is the one person I am hurting most by emigrating, my lovely mum. I started the feb 189 applicants thread and seem to be one of the last to be waiting for a visa grant. Anyone else just sick of living in limbo? Having done the majority of the hard work myself it really pains me to have to depend on incompetent people to provide the further documentation requested by immi and AHPRA. I'm finding to hard to keep my cool and have had a couple of teary outbursts today. I don't seem to be getting any advice on the nursing thread, so I'm just reaching out for a bit of moral support to keep going. Thanks for reading!

Your timeline is fairly similar to mine. We are waiting for our 489 Visa. Im the one pushing everything through :( I had my AHPRA granted yesterday, I was over the moon and was fortunate for it to be plain sailing.

Our 489 was lodged (heading for Coffs Harbour, NSW) on the 31/12/14 and we are still waiting, we have a migration agent and I asked them last week if they thought we should chase, she used to work for DIBP and she said its highly recommended at this stage to not harass them (although if it was down to me I would !!) Im gonna leave it another 2 weeks and then ask them to drop them a line.

Hope you hear something soon x

  15. Hi, wandered if anyone else is still waiting for there visa. We applied for ours 31/12/14 and still waiting. CO assigned 13 Feb. Few issues with PCC but as of 14th April they had everything they needed. Then our agent was given the following information from DIBP:

The Migration Program planning level for this category has limited number of places left for the 2014-15 program year. This means processing times may be longer and that once the remaining places are used, the Department cannot grant further visas in this category this program year unless more visa places become available. We cannot advise you whether more visa places will become available in this visa category as planning levels are determined by the Australian Government. As planning levels apply to all applications, including those in the final stages of processing, we cannot give you an indication as to the likely timeframe for finalisation of your application. In the meantime, we encourage you to check the department’s website for updated information regarding allocation, processing and any changes to the Skilled Migration Program which may affect you. We appreciate your patience in this matter.

The wait is horrendous and just wish it was all over and done with. We are heading to regional NSW (Coffs Harbour).

  16. Hi, we are waiting for our 489 regional sponsorship to come through after a few hiccups, anyone else on the 489 pathway who want to share their timeline? Heres mine so far

  17. Hi everyone,

Hoping to get our 489 visa soon. Looking at flights to Coffs Harbour (Expedia + others) and just wandered if you have to book a one way ticket or a return? I know that sounds stupid but Im sure I had read somewhere that you have to book a return, presumably thats if your on a working visa etc??
