1. Hi kev, It was to get his AQF III but would be more than happy to give you tips if you think it would help? I'm sure someone will be along soon who has been through the Vetassess
 2. Hi Kev, Who is the interview with? Only asking because my husband had a technical interview for his skills assessment last year, if it is along that line he might be able to help. He is a welder by trade in the uk and he now has a job as a boiler maker/metal fabricator in Australia
 3. Hi everyone We could have the opportunity to move to Roma Queensland from the UK on a sponsored visa, any information about the town, area, schools would be very helpful in helping us make the right decision, I don't know much about the place apart from they have had a few floods over the last couple of years but not sure if this is a real problem? Cheers Craig
 4. It's was just the easiest, cheapest way in for us, feel like we have wasted this last 6 months doing nothing when we could have been getting more clued up on what to do if sponsorship went pear shaped, totally didn't see it coming! But you're right, better start looking into this test then for the hubby!
 5. Ok here goes Hubby's age 40 - 15 points IELTS not taken - 0 points employment outside Australia - 15 points educated to trade standard - 10 points plus nomination of either 5 or 10 points dep on which visa to take would need to score big on the English test for it to work, is that right??
 6. So we are short on the points test which rules out the 190, 189 and 489, which leaves only the 457 right? It's been a **** day really
 7. Just having a quick mooch round pio while I finish my coffee and I'm not feeling so confident now, pretty much doom and gloom about job situations and 457 visas. Oh crap
 8. True very stormy, just need to work our arses off to find something else, gives us more time to finish the house and get straight our side. Not many sponsored jobs around that are publicly advertised though............... Gonna take candygirls advice and chat to some agents, see if they can help. Not giving up!!!
 9. I think it was the 457, my husband didn't have a final trade certificate that was needed so had to have the skills assessment before we could get the nomination to apply for the visa. We are still in the queue to be allocated an assessor, busy time I believe so hopefully will have it by the end of the month...........
 10. Thanks so much candygirl, that's exactly what I said to my hubby, in the long run we will be fine, just need to find him a job!!! I'm a bit clueless about the visas, pretty much left it up to him but gonna look into them now, if you see/hear of any welding jobs, remember me and give us a shout
 11. Cheers Melza, will look now, husbands is a bit pi**ed off just now so trying to find something will hopefully cheer him up weegiedave - not 100% sure, my other half looked into all the other visas last time but think we just fell short on points, either that or we didn't have the money for the visa?
 12. My husband has just had an email retracting his job offer made in November last year Recent downturns means there is no longer a position for him and literally 2 weeks ago we paid out almost £3000 for his AQF skills assessment, gutted is not the word. Anyone know of a welding job going...................?

Hi Rachel

I'm Phil, 'Karphinat' better half...lol

We love Kalgoorlie. Plenty of folks will give you the 'oh it's the wild west; booze, hookers and punch-ups'. Well, like every single town, if you going looking for it, you will find it. In the meantime I have found the locals very friendly and helpful. Modern-day Kal is cosmopolitan, has a busy regional airport and hospital. Loads of sports clubs. The local leisure centre is central and massive. Rush hour? Well, you'll struggle to find a queue of cars!

There is plenty of places to get your shopping; Coles, Woolies, IGA's...the list goes on. There is plenty for kids to do and the school are all pretty decent as well.

This is a thriving regional Australian town, 6 hours drive to Perth, 3 hours to the beautiful beaches at Esperance. The Bush, well,on the doorstep! My email is: phil24601@hotmail.com

If you need to know anything, just ask. If we don't know, we can find out!

Cheers

 14. Just a quick reply before i shoot off to work, I know its well known for its brothels and hard drinking, but is Kalgoorlie really that bad, thought it might be improving, from a few of the comments I've read on here? I'll respond to the rest of your posts when I have more time but thanks for replying, really appreciate your input, your experience and hindsight is just what I'm looking for to help us decide!
 15. And thats the thing isn't it, what is the point of moving to the other side of the world and be on my own for 50% of the year? Been there done that and personally i'm not in a rush to repeat it!!! My thinking is give it our 100% effort for 2 years and then re-evalute! We wouldnt sell up here so can always return but I'm doing it for my kids future so I doubt we really would come back
