1. Hi there W&W and Davo1 Wow, I was just counting on my fingers and realised we've been out here 10 months now! Time flies I can only speak for myself, but I'm loving the role our here in WA. Of course, there are the downsides, irritations and bothers, but hey, we get that everywhere, right? I'm out here in Kalgoorlie with my five and five year old. People were shocked, awed, amazed by the fact I was coming to Kalgoorlie, but honestly, we LOVE it. It really is home now. As a social worker there IS opportunity here for moving up the ladder and bringing good practice to the fore. The economy here is Australia is just about bearing up at the moment. There's been no recession but mining is a bit wobbly at the moment. Certainly here in WA mining is a core industry. Gold is below $1300 per ounce and the whole sector seems flat as a pancake! But things will pick up! If you get the chance to come out here, DO IT! In heartbeat! WA may feel like a zillion miles from the action; Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, but it has so much to offer. The people are all warm and friendly, especially if you're a 'fair go' person. Cost is living is more out here, but then again, we earn more, so we have money to put aside now! If you get the chance, don't just be attracted to Perth and metro, like moths to a flame, give all the other areas a look as well. There's a lot more to WA than Perth!! If there's anything specifically you want to know...just ask! Phil

Hi Rachel

I'm Phil, 'Karphinat' better half...lol

We love Kalgoorlie. Plenty of folks will give you the 'oh it's the wild west; booze, hookers and punch-ups'. Well, like every single town, if you going looking for it, you will find it. In the meantime I have found the locals very friendly and helpful. Modern-day Kal is cosmopolitan, has a busy regional airport and hospital. Loads of sports clubs. The local leisure centre is central and massive. Rush hour? Well, you'll struggle to find a queue of cars!

There is plenty of places to get your shopping; Coles, Woolies, IGA's...the list goes on. There is plenty for kids to do and the school are all pretty decent as well.

This is a thriving regional Australian town, 6 hours drive to Perth, 3 hours to the beautiful beaches at Esperance. The Bush, well,on the doorstep! My email is: phil24601@hotmail.com

If you need to know anything, just ask. If we don't know, we can find out!

Cheers

  4. Probably clears up their stuffed noses a treat though
  5. I'm getting a little bit down I'm trying to find sports to keep me active. There's no mens softball, I cannot find any badminton and according to the Oasis there isn't any five-a-side soccer! What is this 38 year old bloke with dodgy knees meant to do for sporting activity now? I love team sports, and I love competition, but cannot find anything that may suit me. Any help/advice guys? Phil
  6. All systesm go in Kal. I'd love to play team sports, but I now had dodgy knees and could only do non-contact stuff. I really miss that side of things!
  7. Hi Chiara me, wifey and nearly 5 year old son are heading to Kal...two weeks today! Fourcorners has been an enourmous help and has, IMHO, helped greatly to battle and beat the daft negative trash people talk on here about Kal (mostly from people who've never been there). We're coming out with open eyes and a willingness to get 'stuck in' and see what Kal and life has to offer. I hope we meet you there!! Phil

    Duck eggs ?

My only warning is that if you start giving pooch your lovely duck eggs, the pooch may be more included to try and help himself next time. Apart from that...what a healthy thing to put in the diet. Wet nose, glossy fur, waggy tail...and that's just you Oh...and there may then be the associated doggy puffs....with added eggy Good luck with that Phil
