  1. No by too much around 300 cheaper than the other we were weighing it up with . You are correct I signed the agreement based on their expertise so they should honour it. I just feel thy knew something was wrong given the packers said this their rep had made mistakes before and they would not let me pay the account even though it stated to be paid 7 days before on the signed agreement. Thanks for the reply
  2. One did others did not mention it however the quote I received from them via email had no mention of square footage that came on the paper documents the movers had, We are shipping cars as well so a lot of the quotes had different setups some groupage some sole container. Some with port in Aus fees included some without. Is it not their responsibility to make sure the quote its correct. Many thanks for the reply
  3. Three months before our move to Australia I got some moving companies in and got several quotes for the contents of our small flat. Eventually after several reps came saw everything we were bringing and quoted we settled on one and signed the agreement based on what their representative had coasted and the reviews they received and that they were a member of the British Association of Removers. Now here’s the problem. Before the move about a week to go I rang to settle the account but was told to wait till after the pack and move was done. Fair enough not what was stated in the contracted that said payment 7 days before the move but they said to wait till after. So on the day of our move our packers come some very nice guys and suddenly they tell us that there is about twice the amount quoted in cubic feet which is all in our living room ready to be packed as is on the quote documents they have. My reply was well your rep saw all this and this is what we assumed he worked his numbers on. The rang their supervisor and were told to go ahead. They also informed us that said rep had made similar mistakes in his estimates before on other jobs and not to worry they even wrote on the final document that he under estimated the amount. So they box and pack our stuff very professionally and quickly and away it goes. In the mean time I also ring the company but have not been told I will have to pay more. Now a few days later I get an email saying they have recalculated the size and I now owe them over a thousand ponds more. I informed them that I am not a packing expert therefore I assumed their representative worked his quote right (we did not buy anything extra in the time between the quote and the move in fact we took a little less). That on the day of the move they took my goods and never once mentioned a price increase Also that the terms and conditions mention nothing about this and that I signed an agreement based on their quote and reviews I had read I am still waiting for a manager to get back to me. If I am honest we have budgeted for the amount they quoted and can’t afford the extra. Also it was their mistake if I knew what our stuff added up to in cubic feet I would not have called a rep in also their quote was not massively under another we received where as some others were far more. Being on a budget we settled with what we thought was the best option Advice please. Can they charge me? Many thanks Zeroasylum
  4. True but weight and security can be an issue. Whats royal mail air sure like as FEDEX is expensive. Thanks
  5. I am going to be traveling for 11 weeks while our stuff is in transit (packers coming Thursday)I was wondering what do people do with important documents like car V5's and birth certs etc. Ship them with all the other stuff or send them via mail to family. Advice please. Many thanks Zeroasylum
  6. Hello thank you to the Iron chef for this very helpful thread. I have my import approval but I just want to check if this is the procedure once car is in Victoria. So car is shipped arrives on the docks goes through quarantine and customs duty etc is paid. Can I then get a temporary permit from Vic Roads to drive it to my home or does it need to be on a car transporter? Then I take it for roadworthy (get another temporary permit to drive it there) Then they tell me what needs to be done if nothing then form is stamped to send to get personal import plate from printers. Then back to road worthy place for them to attach the plate. Then a trip to Vic Roads for inspection and registration. Is this how it works or am I missing any steps. Many thanks Zeroasylum
  7. I got mine in 16 working days. If you have all the correct documentation should be quick.
  8. Finally have all my quotes through for shipping hopefully at start of September and there vary a lot. The problem we have is even though we are shipping 2 cars we don’t have a lot more stuff only about 5 cubic meters. Not the best quote from White and company is for a groupage shipment but with it the build a frame around the car so that the can put stuff on top to maximize the container space. Is this safe has anyone shipped a car like this? Cost is a big factor for us and while sole use would be nice it’s a shame to ship empty space. RORO is out as it may be cheaper but not for 2 of them and have heard too many horror stories. Many thanks zeroasylum
  9. Very helpful thread here http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/transport-shipping/97053-transporting-your-car-oz-everything-you-need-know.html I believe if you dont ship it before you go you only have 6 months from arrival to bring it in
  10. Thanks for the reply. Does the modification and degassing have to be done by a main dealer or can it be done by any qualified automotive air conditioning engineer / company once all the relevant paperwork has been completed. Thank you zeroasylum
  11. Think I found my answer in number 8 here retrofit to r134a and degas easy to get done but if you could confirm if I am correct http://www.environment.gov.au/atmosphere/ozone/licences/vehicle-import.html Thanks Zeroasylum
  12. Hello,we are moving in September and going to be bringing my wife’s Nissan Figaro with us as a personal import. Not it was designed to run r12 gas which I know is banned both in the UK and Australia. I believe it is running some sort of substitute now. Am I correct in saying that it just needs to be degassed or do I need proof it was converted not to run R12. Also is there some rule about degassing and shipping with household goods. Many thanks Zeroasylum
  13. Thanks for the replys guys. Have spoken to crown and about 5500 for 40ft container 2 cars and some household. Think that includes aqis but they also said 495 dollars to clean each car if needed. I have some of the mods already done as have built/restored one car from the ground up so think i just need to add the mounts for car seat top tether which I have purchased however it is difficult to get a full list of the ADR's that they need to comply the car for. Any other advice is welcome
  14. Thanks for the reply and the photo. Definitely avoiding RORO as shipping 2 classics and as shipping 2 cars it works out a bit cheaper to use a container port fees for landing etc. May I ask could you pm me the company you used or if you can post the name would be grateful as have 3 coming to quote on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Thank you
  15. Hi just a quick question. When myself and my wife move to Melbourne in November we will be staying initially for the first 2-3 months with m my father in law till we get settled. This will also be the initial registration address for our cars that we import. Now if we draw up a rental agreement with him for his period as we will be living there and contributing to household bills etc will this be sufficient to gain the 50 points needed. Also can it be used for both of us can we use the same document to get points from it as husband and wife. Many thank in advance
