  1. I'll look into it, thanks!
  2. I assume you're applying under the Direct Entry Stream (since skills assessment isn't required for the Temporary Resident Transition stream)? If you've worked in the nominated position for this employer for 2+ years, you can apply under the TRT stream. Hi MaggieMay. Thanks for the reply. Yes, you're right in that I will be applying under the DES as I will not have been employed for two years until next January. The only other option I can think of is applying for a new 457, and then for the 186 when the skills assessment is received. I'm thinking along the same lines; another 457. Problem is this will add a significant cost to an already expensive application.

    Heeeeelp!

Hi All, Please could someone proffer some advice as I'm in a bit of a sticky situation and running out of time.. Here in Perth on an employer nominated 457, due to expire 3rd September this year. Employer happy to nominate and sponsor for the ENS 186 to convert to permanent resident. Now here's the crunch - my skills assessment by Vetassess (due to unavoidable delays) is unlikely to be returned by my current visa's expiry date. I cannot lodge an application for the 186 without the skills assessment. This means the 457 will expire, and I will not have an application lodged for a substantive visa so cannot get a bridging visa. Any ideas guys and gals? Rich

    Hi :)

Hey there. I guess you have to ask yourself some very hard questions and be honest with yourself and your family. Yes you will be a long way away but staying in touch with family and friends today is easy with phones, Skype etc. Even 'Silver Surfers' (Grandparents) can get the hang quite quickly! Ask them how they feel about the prospect of you moving. Discuss the possibility of visits/holidays. You don't mention how old your son is. Kids are very adaptable but you have to put in the effort and supply the right support and structure to enable that flexibility. Alot also depends on how gregarious and sociable you are; if you chat and make friends easily you can soon build a social network which is a support in those times of 'I wish i was back home,' which happens to us all. If you struggle to connect and socialise, you may feel very isolated. Just a few points to ponder; hope they help. Kind regards Rich
  11. Ok, a bit broad. Coming to WA in January, ok for a month or so but need a 'heads up' for where to go next. Will be FIFO, 2 weeks on/off. Ideally would like to be near the coast, easy access for airport (happy to travel ~ 1 hour), decent shopping. No need for schools/kid stuff. Any tips? Rich
  12. Fly In Fly Out. Relating to working at a site remote from your place of abode, quite common in Oz. Hope that helps
  13. Thanks matey. Good advice, sure enough. I have about 6 months to scope out a place for the family before they come over. Gonna have to be near a main airport (FIFO for me) and not to far from a medical school (Boy wants to be a Doctor... Man, I'm gonna need 2 jobs at this rate ). All very exciting though! Regards Rich
