  1. How long have you been together ? she might get PR straight away, you do not have to be married for a partner visa. It would be cheapest option.

I do understand her wanting PR sooner though so if she won't get PR straight away from partnet visa then PR in her own right should do it.

She will have to include you but it will ask on the form about your status if you are PR you will not be given another visa, but she should list you.

    Hi rammygirl,

Many thanks for your comment. I too hope it is the case. I dont' want to be considered as an applicant in her visa application as I already m on a PR. She will apply for PR as we are not living together until we get married.

  2. She will still need to list you as her husband.

Hmm...Does this mean, I will also be included in her visa application(which I dont want to as I already am a PR). I just want her to apply for her PR, add the information that I am her husband and that's it. Is this allowed?

  3. You cannot claim points for someone who already has PR.

    Hi Tee,

Thanks for your reply. To make myself further clear, does this mean when she applies for her PR 189 visa she doesnot need to put me as a partner in her application (By that time we will already be married). I just thought if she added me as her partner, she could get extra 5 points on her application. Looks like she will need to fill in her EOI with 60 points itself.

  4. Hi guys,

I have a query to make. I am on my 190 PR visa living in Perth. My girlfriend and I are planning to get married this year. I know after marrying her, she can apply for a partner visa (which is initially temporary one) and she will get her Permanent visa in 2 years time. I do not want to take this route as she can apply for 189 visa by herself and has 60 points so far. What I want to know from you is -Can she lodge her EOI using this route and can she claim additional 5 partner points from me (as my occupation is on SOL list and I have assessment done from EA too). That will increase her points from current 60 to post 65 if possible and thus increasing her chances of an invite. Can this be done ? What are the effects of this on my visa? Like after marriage, she applied using this route and included me in her application, my visa will be changed in lieu with her. Is it the case? I may be thinking too much. Hence, if any of you guys can please let me know, what should be the best thing for both of us, we would really appreaciate that.

    Thank you

  5. Hi everyone - I'd love to answer any questions anyone has, I know I had loads of things on my mind before we moved out. I'll try to comment on everything you have asked about so far, if I've missed anything just ask again

Before we moved out my hubby had secured a position as an engineer and we were to be sponsored on a 457 visa, so we were really lucky that he had work beforehand - in the UK I was an events coordinator and my little girl used to go to nursery 5 days a week which I absolutely hated. When we found out what wage he would be earning it seemed that I would be able to stay at home at look after our little one, which is perfect! I figured it would give me more time to explore everywhere, find out new places, meet new friends etc, and lets be honest I was looking forward to not having to work ! So unfortunately I have no advice/info to give on finding work once were arrived out here. I will look to return to work once all the kids have started school, but that's a while away yet!

Accommodation - luckily before we moved out my hubby's company provided us with an apartment for 4 weeks. Even though it was pre organised I would have done it exactly the same way if organising myself. We were placed right in the centre of Joondalup in a fully furnished apartment so we could live comfortably for the 4 weeks with everything we needed. We started looking for a rental as soon as we arrived and I would advise everyone else to do the same thing. Finding a rental is a battle !! I had no idea how hard it would be and how many people would all be fighting for the same property! Each day I would look on the real estate websites, go to the offices and get a print out of all the latest rentals and circle the ones we liked. We knew we wanted to be in and around Joondalup as the hubby would be working in the city (only 25-30 min drive) the suburbs we were looking at we're Tapping, Ashby & Carramar, their only a 4 min drive from Joondalup. We love Joondalup it has nearly everything you could need: big shopping centre, pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants galore and its fulllll of Brits ! I didn't meet an Aussie for a good few days ha!

Once we'd spotted a rental we liked the look of we would go along to the open viewing. To my surprise there was at least 20 other couples all viewing it as well (a little disheartening) after the viewing you collect an application form, fill it in and hand it back to the agent the next day....then just wait !! We were getting rejected for quite a few and started to wonder if we would run out of time to find somewhere. We asked one of the agents what could give us some help towards getting one, she told us some people write a little story on their application to try and win the owners over or some people offer more money. In the end we wanted a place so desperately we offered $50 more than they were asking and we landed one. It's a beautiful 4x2 in tapping and I love it. I'm sure if you persist you will find one but make sure you have enough time to look. A lot of the people your up against have previous references from the other rentals and rent inspection reports which owners like to see so it can be difficult.

Making friends - my hubby knew an old friend from back home who now lives out here who we spoke with first, but to be honest we don't really see a lot of them. We see more of the couples who have children the same age as our little one. As I didn't have to work, I set out to find some playgroups to take my little one to. Carramar shops just down the road has a community centre which I attend every Monday and I go to one in Banksia Grove every Thursday. All the mums there were really lovely and I've made lots of friends through them. There's one mum who I see the most of as she doesn't work and her little girl is only slightly younger than mine. Turns out their from Newcastle back home as well (small world!) my hubby gets on great with her hubby and we see a lot of them. I've also got really close with 2 other mums who were in her mothers group. They both have girls the same age and we always meet up on a Friday for a catch up and let the girls play! Now I have a nice group of friends I think it's made the move so much easier - gives me something to do during the week and my little girl has her little friends too which is great. I also joined the gym in Joondalup which has proven to be another great place to make friends. They have a crèche for the little ones so it means I get a little time for myself.

Ive written so much already that I'm bound to have forgotten something. Just ask away if there's anything else anyone wants to know. So far I absolutely love it out here. Yes it is expensive but we are still better off than in the UK. And although it has its raining days and slightly cold days. There is so much to do when it's warm which you can never get in the UK. Days out to parks - they have community BBQ's, beaches, walks, into the city, kings park, Yanchep... The list can go on. Being able to have my little one outside all the time is amazing and she absolutely loves it !!! No moving back for me yet. I love the way of life over here and we've never been happier !!!

Ask away guys I'm happy to answer about anything, shopping, bills, things to do, places to go.... Xx

Thanks for the heads up! Nice to read about your experiences so far. Keeping my fingers crossed for the exciting journey ahead.

  6. Woo hoo! I remember when i applied for my wa ss and received the same quote saying that my application has been assigned to a case officer. The ball starts rolling really quickly now. They'll ask you for your police clearances and then you medicals and then ... vola! Visa! I reckon you have about 2 - 3 months to go ...

The case officer is for state sponsorship application from WA and not the CO when we lodge the visa application.
